Dell
Vostro 5460, i3-3120M + HD 4000@RM1,549[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04, 3 cell; W8SL@RM1,749
Vostro 5460, i3-3120M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1949[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8SL, 3 cell
Vostro 5460, i5-3230M +Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04, 3 cell; W8SL@RM2099
Vostro 5460, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT630M + (32GB mSATA SSD + 500GB(5400rpm))@RM2199[1.54kg], 4GB, W8SL, 3 cell

For your usage, you can go for the i3 & HD4000 spec. Extend warranty to 3 years next business day on site (best for students, never need to worry about no laptop to use during assignment crunch time). Swap the HDD for SDD (128G ~ RM300+/-, 256G ~ RM600+/-).
Prices are RSP, negotiable. Comfortably within your budget.

I wonder if there are any non-lenovo laptops which cost less than 3500 and beat the spec of a y500 single 750m?

Basically GT750M SLI > GTX765M > GT750M.
Assuming the games support SLI.

I think the Viao with most powerful GPU in Malaysia right now are those with GT640 LE, and the cheapest is:
Vaio SVS13135CV, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT640M LE@RM3199[1.72kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8

For that price, you could get a Lenovo Y410p with Haswell CPU and GT750M.
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + GT750M(GDDR5)@RM2899, 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

Hey guys,
Need your help very much smile.gif
I'll further my studies in the coming July so I'm looking for a new laptop

1. No preferred brand, as long as it's good in quality

2. Budget: around 2k (preferably under 2k)

3. Usage: doing assignment(business student), surfing the internet.......etc. no gaming

4. Screen size: 11 inch n above

Others:

I need a laptop which is light n portable, and has a long battery life as I hate when it is out of battery when I am outside....and I hate lags

Thank you very much for your opinions biggrin.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Any
2. Budget: Below RM2k
3. Usage: Office apps
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15.6"

Looking for a laptop for office use. Looking for the slimmest/most portable 15.6" model.

Yes, it's a weird requirement, but it will be used for Finance purposes, so the screen size needs to accommodate large spreadsheets, but just trying to find the least bulky/heavy 15.6" model available.

Thanks!

normally 15.6" dont have the slimmest profile but they some have ultrabook sized ones. but maybe you can consider these :

Dell
Inspiron 15, i3-3227U + Intel HD4000@RM1399[2.25kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 4-cell

Lenovo
Z500, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2299[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 years warranty

prices are RSP and negotiable.

As Raymond mentioned, Asus Malaysia warranty support is iffy. But Asus Singapore warranty support is OK, so if you use it in Singapore, you could consider Asus.
If you go with Dell, make sure you extend warranty to 3 years, then it automatically become international warranty.
For HP, need to call up HP and tell them you want to purchase the pack to upgrade warranty to international warranty.

Other than what Raymond recommend:

Asus
K46CB-WX060H, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 750GB, W8, 4-cell, OD
