Thanks to sifu [PF]T.J,nexus and the others smile.gif Tomorrow I going to placed an order for the dell inspiron 15R special edition biggrin.gif I appreciate you guys opinion.

Anyway, should I upgrade the 32GB caching SSD to SSD that has higher capacity? I mean after I bought the laptop.I plan to buy Crucial or Intel ssd as I save my money from buying the Y500 smile.gif

I plan to get the cooler master U3 as well,is it a good choice? smile.gif

A full SSD is always faster than a hybrid SSD/HDD nod.gif
So its a yes... and you can use external HDD for additional space icon_rolleyes.gif

The U3 is a good pick (~RM70 iinm), can't go wrong there  laugh.gif

Thanks for the information smile.gif
I plan to get a ssd of capacity 128GB.so should I replace the 1TB hdd or the 32GB mSATA? biggrin.gif

I don't think you will get to choose whether you want to take out the 1TB or 32GB mSATA as they are linked?  hmm.gif
*
I googled it and saw they said it has a daughter board that connect to the mSATA card? so we can upgrade the mSaTa card?

Thanks for the reply smile.gif So can I upgrade it to higher capacity ssd and use it as main boot drive? or it just limited to use as ssd caching

Guys, when I purchasing my dell Inspiron 15R special edition, the Sales representative told me that the mSATA SSD could not be upgrade to higher capacity. If I upgrade myself,it will automatically void and engineer refuse to inspect my laptop when I got any problem in the future sad.gif

Nope, it won't void warranty nod.gif
Unless if you accidentally damage other parts while switching the parts yourself nod.gif
If you are not familiar and is afraid of doing it yourself, you can always ask bro putochip123 to help... its a piece of cake for him already laugh.gif
*
I see sad.gif Afraid I would damage other part sad.gif Is it hard to upgrade myself? sad.gif
lol~bro putochip123 from where?IF he willing to help,I willing to treat him a mcD meal biggrin.gif
Or T.J You help me? biggrin.gif I would like to upgrade to 128/256GB crucial m4 mSATA sad.gif

they just want to scare you about it. i chat with the sales representative before and i act like stupid and n00b about laptops.

like what [P.F.]TJ said, get a experienced technician to handle it if you dont know how to disassemble. cool2.gif
*
Seriously they keep scared me out everything and so much different with what you guys said and what I researched in internet sad.gif

Usually I build my desktop hardware rig myself and disassemble my laptop to upgrade RAM.but never encounter mSATA in daughter board before.is it so much different? Need you guys tell me how hard is it sad.gif

By the way guys,do you guys know any model that budget <4k that have a good laptop battery and full hd screen? because I just realize that the Inspiron 15R SE just got about 2hours battery life.Is it pretty short or normal?

it wont be hard. take it as a RAM module.

EDIT : it is not normal if you cant reach 3 hours of battery life. less than RM4000 i can get lenovo Z400, which is better than the 15R SE.
*
does Z400 have full hd display? I need the 1920X1080 for more workspace as I'll spending my time programming in this laptop sad.gif
By the way,Dell now got promotion free one 20" dell monitor

Z400 has no full HD screen. but the new acer v3 does have, even it comes with full HD IPS screen.
*
Is the acer will be a better deal? I quite impressed by the Acer V3 as well when I experienced it last Saturday smile.gif
My local store sell the acer at retail price RM2899 and free junky gift :S [Kota Kinabalu,Sabah]

I get quoted for dell inspiron 15R SE at RM3.35k
upgrade to 3 years accident full cover warranty
backlit keyboard
upgrade to Targus 2.0 backpack

Additional:
one free Dell IN2030M 20'' [due to mastercard promotion]

like that the dell you got is a better deal. you got lots of freebies + discounts.

is it? If like that then no luck with the Acer V3
Seriously I get poisoned by the Acer V3 screen until now, keep thinking of getting it sad.gif the screen is awesome bro =[ the dell offered a monitor suddenly make me feel like more towards to dell due to the freebies sad.gif aaaw..

Anyway, how much does the Acer 3 years warranty upgrade cost?

Hi guys,I received my dell inspiron 7520 today and not quite satisfy with it.the weight is quite heavy and the lid keep stick those finger print which make it very ugly and dirty sad.gif

Should I jump ship to Illegear RE-15 or RE-17? smile.gif or I just upgrade the hdd of the dell inspiron 15R SE to 256GB SSD sad.gif I dislike the dell maybe because the design I think sad.gif

My usage will be only programming and general usage.

Errr ... didn't you look at the real thing first before you buy it?  hmm.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif
Anyway, if you really don't like the design, it is best for you to quickly return the laptop and get money back (14 days from date of invoice, with original packaging) nod.gif (I am not sure how to tell Dell Malaysia though since I don't have experience in return to Dell using "I don't like the design" line  hmm.gif )
As to the RE-15, it is a bit over-kill for programming and general usage biggrin.gif but if you like the design and has the budget, by all mean go for it (but make sure you like the design this time laugh.gif )
*
I had test it out before I buy at my local store sad.gif but it offered a lot of freebies such as monitor,so I attracted with the freebies and go for the wrong step sad.gif
The Customer Service told me that if I return it within 14 days,it will charge me for RM80 but I think it should be alright,it is better than stuck with this laptop for the following 4-5 years sad.gif
I think I would like the design of RE-15. It looks cool and heard it has very solid build and very beautiful screen.

The monitor is gifted by Mastercard,so the monitor will be delivery to me after two weeks.IF I requested for the return policy, will the monitor still free for me? tongue.gif

RE-15 is definitely more solid than Inspiron 15R SE. On the screen, since RE-15 is customisable, please please make sure you get the screen you like biggrin.gif In fact, please make sure you get the proper spec you want for all the customisable components.

On the free monitor, come on lah, common logic tell us there is no free lunch tongue.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
I would like opt to the 95% gamut screen smile.gif Yea,after customize,it should be cost up to 4k+ sad.gif

haha yeap sad.gif sad doh.gif

By the way,how come the screen of inspiron 7520 so blurish? is it defect or what? I suppose the screen of dell inspiron 7520 should be quite nice also sad.gif but it look worse than lenovo Y500 a lot.

did you bought the matte screen version or else?
*
The full hd matte screen sad.gif
QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Apr 28 2013, 12:22 PM)
I supposed you mean the FHD screen in 15R SE? I have seen a few, and they seems quite alright.
Being matte screen, it will not be as bright as the glossy screen in Y500, otherwise I don't think it is any worse than the screen in Y500 (in fact, the FHD screen in Y500 really is only so so laugh.gif But FHD in 15" is always nice tongue.gif )
But if you go for the HD screen in 15R SE, that's another story laugh.gif
*
Yeap
I think it should be the brightness of Y500 screen make it looks like more nice sad.gif Maybe I need to get used to it as well smile.gif Thank you guys for helping me out. biggrin.gif

by the way,the touchpad area very hot sad.gif Should I get a coolerpad as I'm not gaming at all sad.gif I wonder will the laptop work without a cooler pad? sad.gif I worry it will burnt out

Did you set the resolution correctly ?
*
Yeap,I set it to 1920X1080 smile.gif

QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Apr 28 2013, 02:54 PM)
Brightness you can adjust in the laptop power profile. Normally you have power saver, balanced, high performance. Just adjust the screen brightness for each profile (battery and AC power) to level that you like.

The 15R SE that you have come with i7 quad core tongue.gif It run hot.
Normally there are a few things that we can do to improve heat profile: apply good thermal paste (something to consider after using a while when you open up the laptop to clean dust), change HDD to SSD, cooler pad (~RM80 should be fine) help, table fan too biggrin.gif
*
Yeap adjusted it already but I think the screen is like not as great as my Dell U2312HM sad.gif

okay, then nothing to complain already doh.gif Need to buy a U2 or U3 sad.gif My local store don't sell those cooler anyway, need to buy over postage, any recommend seller?
I not dare to open to clean the dust or whatever after scared by their customer service sad.gif I plan to upgrade to crucial m4 128/256GB SSD,but then I don't know I should replace the 1TB or just using mSATA SSD slot.I heard you guys said mSATA ssd is slower, but if the laptop support SATA III,the speed will be the same as normal ssd, not?Point me out if I'm wrong because I'm not so familiar with computer thingy smile.gif Your guys help will be appreciated smile.gif

Replace the 1tb with your crucial m4 ssd. The msata ssd is used for caching purpose and speeds up the boot time.

Anyway if u have your crucial ssd running as your main drive just forgot about the msata ssd.
*
If I replace the 32GB msata with 128GB msata crucial m4 and make it as main boot drive. Is it slower than replace the 1TB HDD? sad.gif

First of all, thanks for the long reply and detailed explanation. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

aaw, embarrassing myself here because I not quite know about those technology thingy sad.gif

I sent email to the customer service but they still didn't reply me yet.But while waiting for the confirmation of the return policy,I using this laptop and feel get used to it already, quite okay also except the laptop is not stylish.short battery life, speaker at the bottom of the laptop, easy to heat up and relatively heavy but I think it is not a main problem as the laptop will be stay at home most of the time smile.gif

Thanks for guide me how to clean the laptop smile.gif I had a blower for my camera so I think it should be can use to blow out the dust too smile.gif

Wow,very clear explanation and clear off my confusing mind.I had google this problem for few days and didn't get the answer I want until get the answer from you, thanks a lot smile.gif

Basically the heat problem is from the hard disk drive? If the main problem is from the hard disk drive,I would like to replace the hdd with ssd since 256+32 is quite enough for me.Do you mean using the existing internal hdd as external hdd.Is it a way to do that?sounds cool smile.gif

Does the crucial m500 available at Malaysia? I searched around at garage sell and no luck getting it.I saw lingloong selling Intel 525 msata but exceed my budget for 256gb ssd sad.gif I think I need to wait the M500 or the intel 525 to drop price sad.gif

The heat issue is from the i7 quad core, the GPU, and the HDD combine. So removing even 1 of them will be good smile.gif
Yes, all you have to do is buy a casing for 2.5" HDD (~ RM50), and you can turn the 1TB HDD into a USB external HDD.

Have not seen M500 in Malaysia yet. If you like Intel, go for the 335, it is good and cheap smile.gif 240G ~ RM550+/-. (but don't have mSATA version yet, iinm) Intel 5xx series is more high end, it will maintain a price gap with the mainstream SSD tongue.gif
*
Thanks, would search for the ssd around and compare the price smile.gif I'll check out my local store first smile.gif

Anyway,I now just realise that inspiron 15R 7520 came with LITEON msata ssd instead of Samsung SSD? sad.gif I thought 7520 using samsung ssd as I always saw people talk at other forum.

by the way the processor idle at 60 degree celcius

Can never be sure what brand of SSD laptop brand use tongue.gif especially on the mSATA small capacity since the margin is so low ...
The recent Latitude E6430 company laptop that I get is using Samsung 256G SSD though  thumbup.gif
iinm, MBP/MBA also has changed SSD supplier a few time ...

The temp is a bit high, but not critical  sweat.gif Think about the solutions that we talk about ...
Or maybe you should really ditch this 15R SE if you are not comfortable with it tongue.gif
*
I see,I thought it will be sure using the Samsung brand sad.gif That means if i replaced the liteon msata ssd with crucial m4,I only can sell the liteon msata ssd lower than other ssd not? sad.gif I not sure about the price of liteon ssd because I never saw people selling it before sad.gif

Hmmm,I would try to apply a cooler pad and see how it work,if still cant make it,I think I would fork out the RM80 and grab the illegear RE-15 sad.gif Hope RE-15 wont give me so much problem sad.gif

Anyway,do you have any idea how to clean the backlid cover? my fingerprint all over the backlid cover and make it looks super dirty sad.gif

Actually at the OEM sphere, iinm, Samsung / Plextor / Liteone / Micron are the big players in SSD. But margin is so thin  sweat.gif
2nd hand price for 32GB mSATA SSD (whatever brands) is pretty low though tongue.gif

Cooler pad is good. You can use it with the RE-15 as well biggrin.gif
*
Hmmm okay smile.gif

The refund process would take about 2-3 weeks after apply sad.gif I bet if wanted to return the dell and grab the illegear, another one month to go sad.gif sad.gif The money hanging there sad.gif The heat problem is quite serious as my touchpad heat up very fast and feel not comfortable with it.
