You can actually achieve >10% net by spending less than RM1000 and get RM100 cash back.
This is because HLB uses round up to the nearest RM, and breakdown per category chosen
Eg.
Mobile Bill : RM205 (gets RM21 cash back)
Petrol Bill : RM505 (gets RM51 cash back)
Grocery Bill : RM275 (gets RM28 cash back)
Total Spend : RM985, Cash Back received : RM100
Nett Cashback = 10.15%

Whatever the rate of rebates it is already one of the best. Nowadays I no longer spend too much effort just to save a few RM. Its better to try to get the better value CB promo.

Hi, i am planning to apply for HLB wise card. I already have MBB 2 card with AMEX.

My Expenditure monthly where i plan to get rebates from MBB amex and wise card:

1. TNB electric bill: RM100+
2. Maxis handphone about RM 150
3. Maxis home fibre about RM 150
4. Petrol about RM400
5. Grocery about RM300
6. Restaurant and pubs about RM 500 to RM1000

For wise card i plan to take mobile + dining + either grocery or dept. Ronnie mention something bout buy aeon voucher to qualify for 10% cash back. Is that under dept or grocery option? I very much like that, I like to buy metrojaya/isetan and parkson voucher too. But grocery i usually shop at either jusco or big c at mid valley, or NSK at kuchai lama or my neighbourhood market Sri Kota mart. Basically pondering which category should i pick, grocery or dept. Cause if i pick dept, then for grocery I will use my MBB amex, or if i pick grocery then MBB amex for dept.

Ronnie also mention about paying all maxis bills at the kiosk is best way? I work in KLCC, so very close to maxis tower. Since i have like close to RM300 for maxis (150 handphone and 150 home fibre), so i can make like 6x payments of RM50 at the maxis kiosk every month? The online easypay is not qualified for home fibre rebate right? So kiosk is the way to go?

Why not much ppl choose dining for wise card? I go pub a lot, sometimes dine around restaurant in KLCC for lunch. I suppose that is best category for me. Is there only specific restaurants that qualify? Does pub qualify? Hope you can help shed some light.

it is better for you to choose departmental since you like metrojaya/parkson/aeon.

yes, you may split the bills and pay at maxis kiosk to easily qualify for the 10% cash back. however, to avoid being suspicious, it is not recommended that you pay rm50 for six times in a row on the same day itself. it is more advisable that you pay with different amount on different days.

not many choosing dining because some other cc offering dining at better discount rate ~25% at selected restaurants. there is no specific restaurants that qualify for the dining option, just as long as they are under mcc 5811 (caterers), mcc 5812 (eating places and restaurants), mcc 5814 (fast food restaurants). pub does not qualify since it is under mcc 5813 (drinking places - alcoholic beverages, bars, taverns, cocktail lounges, nightclubs and discotheques).

since gold and platinum shares the same features of 10% cash back with maximum capped of rm100, it is more recommended that you choose gold since the annual fee is lower.

AEON store has 2 type of MCC code : SMKT & DEPT (shown on their CC slip). DEPT swipes will be under Departmental Stores, SMKT swipes will be under Grocery.

Maxis bill can also pay online... it's counted for both Maxis Mobile & Maxis Home Fibre. You need to go thru special method to do part payment for Maxis Home Fibre

Dining for WISE doesn't include pubs/alcoholic/liquor.

Go for GOLD Wise card (no difference in feature, more CL, Platinum wording)

Abit more clarification on grocery option. I think i read somewhere in HLB wise thread that says aeon jusco at mid valley does not qualify as grocery even if I pick the grocery option. Only Big C from Aeon qualifies as grocery, is that true?

If i were to choose the grocery option, which vouchers can i buy monthly in order to hit the quota is i'm shy by a little. I know tesco and giant vouchers should work. But would Aeon vouchers work? Or only Aeon BigC vouchers will qualify as grocery for grocery option?

Ok, going to have lunch now then off to HLB to go apply the card, gold card that is. I hope HLB dont' pandai pandai auto upgrade application to platinum card just cause qualified for it. I experience this before, apply for this but they give another type without seeking my consent first.

There's no such thing as AEON BigC... it's AEON BIG (aka Carrefour)
AEON Voucher sold at 1 Utama/Midvalley is under DEPARTMENTAL STORE category

No need to reach 1000
as long as you can swipe RM50 x 10 times every month, then you can enjoy 10% CB on your selected categories (petrol in ur case)

Ok, just went to the HLB KL main branch to apply for my wise card. Found out there's promotion if apply 2 cards can get a free hot water boiling flask (provided you swipe cumulative amount of RM 800 from the approved credit card 60 days within card approval date). Since got free promo so I just picked that up. Took Wise Gold and Visa Signature combo. I was surprised HLB require a lot of document for the application. They need pay slip, KWSP slip, bank account statement, IC photocopy. All of them, not just one of them. I know some banks just require 1 type of document, or even just existing credit card photocopy will be enough. Anyway, i provided all except for KWSP slip, didn't have any RHB branch nearby where I can pritn them out. Hopefully it can be processed without my KWSP slip. The next unpleasant thing is approval takes 1-2 weeks according to the HLB staff who attended to me. Yesterday I went to maybank to apply for Visa Infinite and I got my card in 2 hours.

I was struggling what to choose for the 2 options. I know dining is one of them. The choice was between grocery and dept. I was thinking either to use MBB Amex for grocery then HLB Wise for dept or MBB for dept then HLB for grocery.

Eventually I pick grocery. Reason being every month I am sure to spend on grocery which will help to meet the RM100 rebate monthly quota which in essence shoudl save me more money compared to MBB Amex only have RM50 rebate quota. Second consideration being not all grocery accept AMEX so shopping for grocery with HLB wise will be more universally accepted (I gonna try it at Sri Kota mart and NSK once I got it).

Well now, it's just time to wait for the card and try it out.
