You are in Taman Daya?

I'm on 10mbps and I have to say I'm pretty satisfied. Torrent about 100gb movies yesterday. I'm near the church, where police lurk to catch shortcut takers.

i will just replace the thompson router for now ..
probably with either TP-Link TL-WDR3600 or -WDR4300.. however the price for WDR4300 can't justify the additional antenna for less features compare to WDR3600..

TP-Link stock firmware replace thompson router
Addtional TP-LINK with openwrt/ddwrt for repeater function for upstairs ....

Hi all,

Just need some feedback from you all. I am currently on unifi 10 MBPS, so far no problem playing games, torrenting.
However I'm normally only online at night.

I am very tempted to get maxis + astro at RM250, however I have read that you guys are subject to horrendous throttling at night.

ok so my questions as follows:

1) how bad is the throttling? does it make playing games unplayable? for example dota 2
2) what time is the throttling? so if they dont throttle in the morning, I can just download alot and leave it running while I go to work.
3) do maxis throttle on weekends?

and for astro:

1) does the astro service lag? coz of the trottling
2) let say I have 3 tvs at home, 1 in living room, the other 2 in bedrooms. can I watch astro on all 3 of them?

Thanks alot guys. =)

1. don't happen for me, maybe because astro is controlling the internet if u take iptv...
2. 8pm until 2pm ( i think)..
3. every night from 8pm until 2pm

astro
1. no, cuz using different bandwidth like unifi.. but if u using VOD, that requires downloading then it will using internet bandwidth..
2. for multirooms, Customers living in landed properties can enjoy up to two Astro B.yond PVR decoders in different rooms in the same household while only customers residing in selected high-rise buildings can enjoy this service. This is due technical limitations in certain apartments or condominiums.

Cant remember, I think at least 9months or more. I applied Maxis cause I used my sister OKU card for 50% discount.

Personally I dont game much, but if you read from other people comments, seem like gaming really sucks due to ping lag. I used them for normal surfing and torrent only. I do noticed that the speed from filesharing sites like Hotfile is a bit lower than Unifi though, on peak hours from 6pm-12am. Not all sites are affected. Mediashare dont seem to be affected though.

As for torrents, personally never had much problem. But sometimes the router failed to respond after downloading huge amount of data like 100-200GB. If you see the torrent wont even connect, shut down the router and modem, connect again, then speed will return to normal. I can reached the max speed 1.2MB/s if the seed is good.

However, there is one down side. Maxis seem to run on private ip. To enable torrent, you will need to call Maxis to put you on public ip. Only one torrent client able to bypass that, and that Thunder (Xun Lei). If you are not using Xun Lei, then you need to call maxis to request for public ip and then change the login username in the router.

having 2nd thoughts about TP-LINK..

Asus RT-N12HP 2xAnt (9dBi) looks kinda good ..
Also adding another Asus with it built wireless repeater function would be a breeze.

Actually I already got two pretty good router. DIR655 and Apple Time Capsule which I bought during SiS warehouse sale few years back.

Im planning to cover the whole house with just a single router but if I did that, those two, plus the homeplug will be useless. Sigh...

Its not broken. Just that all those GB size movies takes an awful long time to transfer. Sometimes some lag when two devices are streaming at the same time.

Just blew my Time Capsule with sparks flying trying to mod it... Guess there's reason to buy a new router now.

I don't think it is a sabotage, they don't get anything by sabotaging Unifi customer. I had problem before when migrating from Unifi to Maxis, I had it to parallel run it for couple of months before decided that I should terminate the Unifi. Since Unifi and Maxis has different setup, they also changed the fibre modem password on their side but without updating it on my modem. This I blame it on the uncompetent Maxis installer. He should've follow the procedures and not by checking that everything was working okay and that should be it. No auth/link can be caused by physical disconnection too. So, nothing much you could do other than calling Maxis and have an appointment with both Unifi and Maxis technicians again.

No Auth/Link light on TM equipment means the is problem with the physical Fiber line.

I am just making RAGE assumption of sabotage smile.gif because I am with Maxis. Unifi sabo Maxis line so you get frustrated and join UNIFI later. smile.gif .. again .. it is a RAGE-d opinion ..kekeke

Thankfully I kept the TM Contractor. I ask him directly with Maxis report number. seems that he might be able to come and have a look ..

what rage me is , barely 1 week .. 5 days to be exact .. down already..
i was just able to download maybe 40GB-50GB worth of files only .. brows.gif brows.gif

Maxis fibre latency "guarantee" is set at 100ms and below (to google). That was what the operator told me. And they replied me saying the average for the fibre connection is 80 to 90ms.

What BS ! I have tested this using unifi at work, and the ping is 5-7ms. So I can't agree to their claim. They say they will try to reset their network and see if it solves the problem, but i will keep bugging them until it is solved.

I haven't got to online gaming yet because i know my ping is ridiculously high.
