I think it really down to the area you are and how much users there are doing P2P. Im not saying Maxis is not throttling but not that bad. I'm getting better speed for P2P than say, sites like Hotfiles where you really are throttled to say, 70kB/s.

same problem here, user from kepong start from 8-9p.m just now...speedtest only got max 1mb download but 10mb upload.... ╰_╯╰_╯

Update: speed back to normal this morning, tested on 8a.m.
*
Kepong wise, FTTH considered not bad what...

My neighbours all using Unifi and starting to complain slow speed. Maybe 5Mbps feel slow kot. Maxis at least 10Mbps.

As for torrent, I didnt feel any slowdown at all despite the hours. It may be slower to reach full speed during peak hours (6pm-12am) but I did not experience any slowdown.

The only problem for FTTH is the slowness when downloading from those sharing sites... really much slower than Unifi. I can get better speed from my 3G data than FTTH.

Homeplug is overrated. Bought one pair of those with 500mbps and only gets few MB/s at best. Use WiFi also same lor.

As for the WiFi, I have no problem but I'm not using Thompson. I just use Thompson to connect and off the WiFi. Then I connect my old DIR655 to Thompson via LAN for all WiFi connection. No problem maxing my 10mbps line.

Luckily I did not register for 30mbps because I did not use it much now after having Astro On Demand. Initially registered for 30mbps due to 50% discount for OKU but they registered mine for 10mbps instead.

I think the Thompson at best also 2x2 only. Just get those 3x3 router, and if got budget, 3x3 on both 2.4 and 5GHz.

Hey guys, just wanna ask something about installing custom routers. I recently got the D-Link DIR-850L router to replace the Thomson TG784n one. Followed the leaflet inside for settings (VLAN ID etc.) but everytime I try to connect, it states that Network Status is busy. Any ideas? Thanks.
*
Maxis and Unify vlan ID different.

This model use Realtek chipset. Why not buy the 860 with Broadcom chipset?

I am aware of dual band..
but dual band got no coverage .. only good for streaming HD ..

I need coverage and a bit of decent speed...

I guess my plan now is to ... use repeaters around the house ..
replace Maxis's thompson router...either just plug another router in there and disable wifi... or totally remove the router...

homeplug is "useless" at my home now ...(*i tot i could run away with it ...)
can't get the speed i want ...
*
Use the homeplug to get coverage.

I also use 3 routers. One is the lousy thompson to provide internet (with wifi off), then LAN out to another 3x3 router for first floor WIFI and then LAN out to homeplug to connect to the third router for ground floor WIFI.

Use 5GHz also good, prevent interference from neighbours' router which are usually stock router which runs on 2.4GHz.

i agree with you .. homeplug = coverage ..
but homeplug only can provide 30% speed...
I guess, I will replace thompson router all together..

replacing with TP-Link WR1043ND .. they have local stock firmware to support maxis/unifi ....
*
Replacing one crap with another crap? Why not get Asus RT-N16 based on Broadcom chipset? Seem to get a lot of rave reviews worldwide.

Connection good???? Need advise...

Maxis 10mbps or Unifi VIP5????? Need advise...
*
You are in Taman Daya?

I'm on 10mbps and I have to say I'm pretty satisfied. Torrent about 100gb movies yesterday. I'm near the church, where police lurk to catch shortcut takers.

Wow, found some local here...smile.gif

Cant remember, I think at least 9months or more. I applied Maxis cause I used my sister OKU card for 50% discount.

Personally I dont game much, but if you read from other people comments, seem like gaming really sucks due to ping lag. I used them for normal surfing and torrent only. I do noticed that the speed from filesharing sites like Hotfile is a bit lower than Unifi though, on peak hours from 6pm-12am. Not all sites are affected. Mediashare dont seem to be affected though.

As for torrents, personally never had much problem. But sometimes the router failed to respond after downloading huge amount of data like 100-200GB. If you see the torrent wont even connect, shut down the router and modem, connect again, then speed will return to normal. I can reached the max speed 1.2MB/s if the seed is good.

However, there is one down side. Maxis seem to run on private ip. To enable torrent, you will need to call Maxis to put you on public ip. Only one torrent client able to bypass that, and that Thunder (Xun Lei). If you are not using Xun Lei, then you need to call maxis to request for public ip and then change the login username in the router.

having 2nd thoughts about TP-LINK..

Asus RT-N12HP 2xAnt (9dBi) looks kinda good ..
Also adding another Asus with it built wireless repeater function would be a breeze.
*
Is it good?

Im eyeing AC68. Wonder if thats really necessary.

AC range is high end router..
If you got the money ... I don't see why not ..

Actually I already got two pretty good router. DIR655 and Apple Time Capsule which I bought during SiS warehouse sale few years back.

Im planning to cover the whole house with just a single router but if I did that, those two, plus the homeplug will be useless. Sigh...

don't fix something that is not broken . smile.gif
*
Its not broken. Just that all those GB size movies takes an awful long time to transfer. Sometimes some lag when two devices are streaming at the same time.

Just blew my Time Capsule with sparks flying trying to mod it... Guess there's reason to buy a new router now.

In this case, must keep the 2013 bill properly in case Maxis play dirty.

Did you read the small fine print? Anything saying they reserved the right to change the terms and conditions etc?

I also wish I can retain my Home Fibre OKU discount. Now 1 year already... next year dont know how.

looks like i complained too much, they decided to throttle my torrent.

Sometimes they keep track of it when you download too much. But I find that restarting the BTU and router helps.

Just tried Amazon Cloud and the upload was pretty fast. Then I try downloading back from there, and the speed is awful. Alternating between 6~20kB/s. Totally opposite of the upload speed which reached a healthy 700~1000kB/s

I do all my torrenting in the morning... why waste your time download at night due to maxis capping...

usuall after my subuh prayer 6.30am... I will start download movie that I needed.. by 8am I would finish 2 or 3 movies and then off to work...
*
Got cap meh? Mine always goes full speed regardless of the timing.

Only those download from Hotfile and certain file sharing sites are throttled kao kao.
