wow
cool mod.
i don't dare to do such things as i afraid my hair nearby my ear might accidentally poke the driver, it's very soft actually. and the air vent behind the headphone is obstructed. hence it might effect the sound quality.

the sound quality when compared to an original koss ksc-75 side by side ( my friend has it ), tamed highs ( i find the original ksc75 to be slightly too bright for my taste ), and most significantly, better bass impact ( in fact, we're talking grado sr-60's bass here. =) Others are not affected though. Absolutely loved it. Koss certainly got a winner product here.

imho. amping it with normal amp doesn't bring heaven and earth different. just slight improve. everythings is more rich
how ever, when seriously amp it (zhaolu / PPAv2) it sound hell superb compare to unamp.
and some how some improper amp does cause distortion in bass. i have heard couple of amp causing that. but not on ppav2. =)
by the way, when it distort, means it telling you to tune down the volume. or the next things to distort is ur ear.

My DIY Modded KSC-75, absolutely loved the sound. Keeps me company before i get a new pair of headphones after the tragedy.

Recabled using canare starquad cables. Changed the pads, padding from an old altec lansing ( better bass impact, night and day difference, but killed the highs ). Taped the center of the mesh ( bring back the highs!! )  rclxm9.gif

Mind to tell me how you do the recabling? My KSC75 producing mild scratchy noise due to loose connetion between the cable and the left ear piece. Adjust a lil bit and the noise dissappear.

I also found that the Koss KSC75 sounds better with my old RM140 Sijosae Class AB than paired with a RM400 PIMETA. My SHP895 though, is great with PIMETA.

You'll get bass distortion if the amp manufacturer skimped on caps and power supply. My amps got no input caps, hueg power caps and 24V power supply. Sweet bass cool.gif

I dont believe much in the 'burn in' of solid stage amps... The improvement is very puny... rclxub.gif

Yeah, amped with LD2+ sounds thin on it. blush.gif
Maybe only LDM+ works with it.

haha definately might find some time we go out minum kopi in mamak, and chatting.
perhaps with dinodog also. or akabane Dr jacker. then u try some of his studio monitor headphone.

about solid state amp, i got experience that certain amp sounds big different after a period of burn in. but there's some amp i cannot spot a different though. it's depend on what they used inside.
=)

but higher end cable also need to burn in, and have effects, i heard it with my own ear.. =P even though i don't believe cable should burn in also.

then about canare, i don't think an burn in is require. run it for 2-3 hours might ok already. but there;s a customers feed back form the custom made EMU0404 cable, said that the cable is getting better and better everyday.
perhaps. my HP890 is sort of low end. hence it can't really show some detail. =)
i am open mind for somethings i am not 100% sure. i believe there must be a reason people spots a different. either our ear is "defect" compare to them. or our setup. or the environment..

mADmAN:
Its some cheap plug i got from the same shop that sell canare plugs at jalan pasar, they were out of canare plugs when i was there so i just ask for an alternative.

nocar:
recabling is pretty easy. First, u need to take out the earhook, just pull it off from the headphone.
Then u need to take off the cover that covers the solder joints, its below the earhook and in a darker grey colour, u can see in the pict that i had cut the cover in half for more movement space for the earhook.
After u took out the cover, u can see the solder joints, just unsolder them and solder in ur new cables. The workspace there is pretty tight so be careful though =)

Sry i didnt take step by step pic and for the late reply, was away for cny =)

thats why i was wondering....the barrel and the plugs looks EXACTLY like the plugs i bought from Radioshack when i was in US (24k Gold Plated - USD$3.50). so i thought it might be those plugs. biggrin.gif

Can your ears bear the weight of that Starquad?

I open the cover with a small screwdriver that i use to screw my glasses. Just slowly push it in the gap between the cover and the phone and push it up, and repeat the process around the cover.

eokboy:
Haha, its really heavy when i lay the cable on the floor up to the phones. I lay the cable on the table circling around the keyboard in between the keyboard and the mousepad, cant feel the weight of the cable. No probs for me since i use the phone primarily for my pc =)

That would be a problem for me as I use it while walking around college.

What I'm going to do is to transplant the drivers to an old headphone body. The headband allows for heavy starquad recable. Thick leather earpads puts more room between ear and driver + chicken wire cover, theoretically more bass and treble response. The SR60 size shell improves isolation, so that my pop drone friends wouldn't isolate me for listening to music they never heard before/older than them.
