I got my [MDSC0039 + SP9201DAF] today,
Thanks for COD somewhere near my place (Kelana Jaya LRT)

Now i got one question, I wanted to connect SP9201DAF's green wire to MDSC0039, but the wire isn't not long enough.
So I wonder which way is safer:

1) connect the earth wire to an earth socket on my second multi-socket (see below image for details) ?
OR
2) extend the SP9201DAF's green wire and connect it to MDSC0039's earth connector?

user posted image

thx.
*

both ways will do...
the purpose of the earth (green) cable used to ground the surge which isolated from cal-lab units...
so connect direct to the earth pin of 3 pin power socket will fine as well...
u can buy a plain 3 pin power socket to connect the earth wire into... smile.gif

Hi Gan,

My modem just got struck few days ago and I'm looking for a protection for my new all-in-one broadband modem.  So SF9512DSL-MS2+3 will be good enough for this?  Will it still work the same if I plug it into the existing extension?
*

may i know ur PC installation, do u have any wired lan cable connected to ur router?
if all PC thru wireless and ur router beside ur PC, SF9512DSLMS2+3 fine for u as well, it was the multisocket version of SF9512DSL...

QUOTE(IceBikers @ May 31 2008, 07:48 PM)
modem n pc got strike 2 times.. n i dun wan the third time to happened.

recommend me an unit for below setup.

...................................................................................-> 2 Phones
PHONEBOX -> [CAL-LAB unit (model ?)] -> splitter ->
..................................................................................-> ADSL Modem

A scenario: if an unit has been used for long time, how could we know/test if it still working??

anyway.. pm me

thank you
*

if u required to ur the tel line for ur analog phone and broadband modem, u need SP9201DAF to protect the tel line for analog phone and broadband modem... at the same time u need to protect power line as well, u need MDSC0039...

My router is about 3-4m away from my pc (within the same room, I put it near the center of the house for better wireless reception at downstair) and it's only connected to a single PC through the LAN.  Does that mean that I need extra item to protect the LAN route?  If that's the case I might consider to move the router near to the PC since I'm in tight budget now.
*

if ur wireless router connected to single PC thru lan cable, and u relocate the router near ur PC...
SF9512DSL or SF9512DSLMS2+3 or SF9812DSL will be fine...

QUOTE(IceBikers @ May 31 2008, 11:47 PM)
protect power as in the modem power line?
*

yes... if u insist to protect tel line only, then u take the responsibility that ur modem may get damage too if surge come from power line... is no caused by cal-lab units failed to protect tel line...

Hi Gan,

I think I'll place the router somewhere near my PC, but will the spike come from the LAN port if my PC is left unprotected (if I plug it to my router only)?  My router is using a 2-pin plug only, so if I plug both my router and CPU (single 3 pins) to the cal-lab unit it'll protect both of them right?

Btw, what does it mean by +SKPX (i.e difference between SF9512DSL & SF9812DSL)...I noticed that the brochure wrote about the small module but I still don't quite get it.
*
yup... u must ensure ur router, CPU, monitor, speaker, printer, scanner, and other equipments which inter-related must connect all on cal-lab units...

assume there have wrong installation, all equipments plugged on cal-lab except speaker power source come straight from wall socket... if lightning surge come from power line and it will go thru ur speaker, it surge able to bypass into audio jack and ur mobo may damage by surge too even ur CPU plugged on cal-lab units... for the correct ways are speaker must connect onto cal-lab too...

SF9512DSL doesnt come with SKPXDSL module... if it tel module dead, u have to replace whole units which cost u RM25...
SF9812DSL come with SKPXDSL module... if it tel module dead, u have to replace the SKPXDSL only which cost u RM10... but if 9812 power module dead, u have to replace whole unit which cost u RM25...

if no analog telephone nearby ur PC and ur modem doesnt connect another PC for networking
SF9512DSL and SF98123DSL suit for ur requirements

Item received!  Paid on monday night and received it this morning.  ::thumbs up::

Oh ya Gan, where should I ground the hanging wire?  I'm going to ground it to the main socket, but would it spoil the unit if i ground it to the CAL-LAB unit?

By the way, there're two LED indicator near the phone jack.  How can I interpret the signal?  If one of them is off means the unit is dead?

Where can I send the unit to fix if it's spoil?  Is there any CAL-LAB distributor around Cheras?
*

the cable is grounding cable, u can ignore it, it used to connect additional module like SLAN1236

the LED indicate input and output of the power line. if one of LED dead means power module striked by lightning. u required to do. if ur modem no longer to connect to streamyx, then u test with analog phone to check whether have dial tone or not, if buzz sound indicate tel module dead.

dealer should have around Klang Valley, usually cal-lab wont provide them replacement units (recon). because they may sell it same as retail price but it just cost us RM25 only...

If i use this, and plug in my own 5-socket extension, will still be protected?
*

yes... can be protect as well...
but all of the equipments must located at the same area/places if the equipments draw the power from multi socket which protected by cal-lab... if assume all of the equipments located all the places, ur equipments still may get damage too bcos of back surge from equipment and damaged other equipments which cal-lab no able to protect...

the repair cost should be RM15 (repair) + RM5 (courier to HQ)
user posted image

but i recommended u do a call to 06-9517680 for correct procedure before u do any actions, at least do a call that u going to send ur unit for repairing & ask them how the payment can be done (thru bank or cash)
HQ address: 30 Lrg. Kurau 9, Tmn Sg Abong, 84000 Muar, Johor, Malaysia.

SP9201DAF act as ADSL splitter filter, it can protect power and tel line (analog & broadband), but it doesnt come with power protection

For more info, u can refer to here:

if i just want streamyx line only protection, without power socket protection! SP9201DSL can do a good job?
*

i no recommended to protect tel line only since the surge may come from power line...
i have a LYN forumer insist to protect tel line only although provided him to my recommendation...
then sorry have to say that he have to bear the risk that surge may come from power line...
at last his modem burst after few months although SP9201DSL still working fine... nothing he can argue...
u can find his post around my thread...

but the LYN forumers who followed my recommendation according to each installation connection, no complaint found.. smile.gif

if u insisted to protect tel line only, as mentioned previous u take the responsibility for the surge may come from power line... cal-lab wont responsible for any damage bcos of ur mistaken, used wrong model for wrong equipments...

Question on SL-AR 5A for powerline protection only.

Can I have a technical explanation on the auto-reset feature?
What is it, and what is it used for? Thanks!
*

i explain from beginning about lightning protection device... i dont have the technical term to talk about this issues

lightning arrestor: it arrestor the certain amount of surge and ground it while detected coming surge; if lightning surge over the limitation, the arrestor components will blow and stop functioning, surge will by pass the components and going into equipments

lightning isolator: it arrestor the certain amount of surge and ground it while detected coming surge; if lightning surge over the limitation, the isolator components will activated and isolate between surge and equipments, for this time isolator components will "self-sacrifice" to avoid surge by pass it and going into equipments

lightning isolator with auto reset: it arrestor the certain amount of surge and ground it while detected coming surge; if lightning surge over the limitation, the isolator components will activated and isolate between surge and equipments, for this time isolator components will going into "self-conscious" to avoid surge by pass it and going into equipments. It may "auto awake" itself after the surge isolate completely or required to switch on/off or plug/unplug it and it may working again. can say that AR version is the model can last very long if compare with other models.

*

any antenna involved ? or any analog telephone nearby ur TV?
if u wanna budget models, SFTV9622FC or SFTV9822FC or SFTV9622FC MS2+3 will do too...
but they only support up to 1000w only... but AV pack can support up to 2000w
the cord estimated around 1.5meter
u have the deliver the damaged cal-lab to HQ for repairing by paying RM15 (repair) + RM5 (courier)... once repaired they will post back to ur front door...

May i know what is the diff for SP9201DSL and SP9201DAF ?

I'm using screamyx(modem page showed ADSL2) at home, and which one do i need? Subscibing 1mb but they gave me 3mb offpeak.

My current setting is:
Phone line -> filter -> modem -> wifi router -> PCs (2 PCs thru LAN)

No phone attached. Why need one when i don't really use it? smile.gif
*

SP9201DAF = ADSL splitter filter = broadband and telephone
SP9201DSL = purely for broadband only

no telephone used on ur tel line? just only for broadband?
actually u can ignore the filter... the filter purposely to filter buzz sound for telephone...

May i know how far between your wifi router and ur 2 PCs which wired by lan cable?

Erm, i think sp9201dsl more suitable in my case, since i'm not using a phone.

my wifi router is on top of my PCs, FYI my adsl modem and the phone line node is about 5-6 meters away from PCs and wifi router.

phone line -> modem -> [5-6 meters] -> wifi router -> PCs
*

how about the distance between the wifi router and PCs? connected by wired lan cable right?

not...
master protector wont be work as efficient and plenty of back surge...
example like locked ur house front gate, but ur house front door, back door, windows, etc no locked...
