Some of the replies really cracked me up... LOL. Great for the entertainment value, but not to be taken seriously. Haha.

Thanks you for your respond, but I'm a really safe driver...in my 15 years of driving, I've only had 3 times of accident, all minor (just back light damage or back bumper). I've never bang anyone. Of course I am aware that I cannot control other driver's attitude..

And nope, I am not driving a potong car, my last car was a Kia CBU unit and my current is a CX 5. Putting that aside, I see alot of seats in the market and being a first time, I am rather overwhelmed as to which is actually a need, a better need or choice. Not asking about brand but merely what do I need to prepare/know or aware of before a newborn arrives pertaining to purchasing the ride seat for the baby, if I should buy an infant carrier for the 1st years (since I only read 1 article that says infant carrier has a better incline posture for the newborn spine) and then migrate to a convertible car seat when the baby has outgrown the carrier or I could get the convertible car seat straight away.

So I need some insight here from from you all
*
Would suggest to get infant carrier then only migrate to a convertible car seat. Those convertible car seat uses thick foam cushion to support newborn which I don't see it is comfortable for them.

Personally used infant carrier for my lo then migrated to convertible after lo outgrown the carrier.

Why are they not safe? Anyway, I still need to take the baby around, for checkup, vaccination and such, care taker..I still need a car seat regardless of the car...right?

Don't read the negative comments and just go with a fitting yourself. Go to a baby shop like Babyjaya in Uptown and just test fit the seats/carriers in your CX5 and buy a suitable sized seat that can secure itself facing backwards (your kid cannot face forward until he/she is able to sit up right on his/her own). Whatever best fits is the best seat for you. All depends on the size of your baby. Find one that has good neck support otherwise buy seat paddings that'll support his/her neck so it doesn't move around.

Now most of the modern cars won't able to sustain serious impact.
Now we are using the cheapest car seat(just rm50) and call it the day laugh.gif
*
Are you stupid or something? Modern cars are way more safer than older cars. CX5 has a 5-star NCAP safety rating. Good luck to you and your RM50 car seat. I pity your kid.

RM50 for a car seat, seriously i'm really doubt the quality for your car seat.
If it's a carrier, it still sounds reasonable, maybe you get this price during discount, my sweet cherry (local brand) carrier already cost me Rm100++ at non-sales day while car seat cost me RM200++.

hey, thank you very much, I will drive to the shop and get it tested, so far just surveying around and reading up and at stores that I've been so far, some won't let me test it and some seems loose to me and there are some who seems to be pushing some brands that they were carrying. So I came here looking for opinions as to which type first before i decide on the brand

Baby stuffs until today I only buy the baby cod and consumables. Other than that, all I got it at rm0, from others.

Is it advisable to go straight into a car seat 0-4yrs old or should I start with the infant carrier first? Not sure what the difference are since there are many that has the infant inset for car seat. Then again, I've read that infant carrier does have a better incline posture to support baby's spine, but I was thinking if a car seat is ECE certify and have the infant inset and it is for 0-4years, shouldn't it also be contoured for newborn posture?

Also, may I know where can I see/get/buy the Chicco NextFit?

Thanks. FTM

What i have for baby transport:

- Maxi Cosi Cabriofix Infant Carrier
- Quinny Zapp Xtra 2 Stroller
- Chicco NextFit Car Seat

I would recommend using the infant carrier first as the position of the carrier is more comfortable for infant.. And plus my Cabriofix can fit into the Quinny stroller.. Thus making the transfer process easier.. I can just lift up the carrier and put it on my stroller. If u use car seat, u need to carry your baby from the car seat to transfer them to stroller, which i think is a bit of hassle especially if the baby was asleep.

I used the infant carrier until my daughter has reached 14 months, where her leg already hanging out of the carrier..
Now i'm using the NextFit in my car, and the infant carrier i put in my other car as a backup car seat. The NextFit has a very good recline position if u want to put an infant, but just as i said before its gonna be a bit of hassle to transfer your baby to stroller

Hey thanks. I will try to read more and hopefully get a good deal at the coming fair in Midvalley. I read that the maxi cosi pebble is an upgrade of cabriofix and it has both the isofix base and can be used with regular seat belt as well. because my car has isofix but my husband's does not. But unfortunately I have not found a site carrying the base. I might just go with just the seatbelt

Basically at fair are selling much more expensive.
Try to look for local baby shop, will be cheaper.
And if you really want to go, do go earlier and spend 1 hour in Jusco first.
Buying car seat you must test it on the spot, else you will end up wasting money for no reason.

So I've come to realise. And yes, I intend on doing that. Responding to him/her will only encourage further garbage coming out from his/her mouth.

Try calling the official distributor directly :

Planete Enfants Sdn. Bhd
No. 23, Jalan SS 26/15
Taman Mayang Jaya
47301 Petaling Jaya
Selangor, Malaysia
Tel: 603-78035523
Fax: 603-78035323
jackie@planeteenfants.com.my

These folks are quite responsive the last time I tried emailing them. As for seatbelt, like I said earlier - go test it if they allow it. I've asked Babyjaya in Uptown PJ and they are receptive to testing. Certain Aeons allow you to test but I've found that it's easier to do this if it's not peak, like during office hours during the day. The biggest issue with seatbelt setups is left-right movement so be sure to test for that. Most are quite ok with front/back movement.

I've also found that baby fairs are not always the cheapest. Sometimes they are clearing old stock - then you'll get it cheap. Other times they are just there because they can be and in those times the seat prices are more or less the same as shops (as long as you bargain).

Good luck hunting.

Thanks alot, I have already emailed them will see if they have and what would be their advice. My friend told me that fair isn't always cheaper, but I think I will just go and check it out and see if I missed something in my list of 'Things to prepare/buy/stock before arrival'. I'm always stocking up on baby wipes (I get staff price from friend) and sanitary (people said that I might 'bleed' for a month after delivery)

Not sure how soon/later I should start buying baby bottles and how many do I need to buy, even newborn diapers and infant diapers too...

yes i did. kena whack around RM1000 at customs. had to go the kastam near the old LCCT to pay and claim the seat.

anyway if i were to buy a similiar "spec" seat now i would go for Concord Reverso which the official distributor confirmed are bringing in. no need to mafan self import.

I planned to buy a baby seat from States. Did all my research and found out it's not taxable for duties.. probably just need to pay GST 6%.

I might be going off-tangent a bit here but don't overstock on wipes. They dry up after a while so buy enough to last a week or two and leave it. For bottles look for one that'll fit your breast pump system. For pumps go to this shop in Klang called Enjoybreastfeeding "http://www.enjoybreastfeed.com/aboutus.php", they let mothers test fit pumps. Buy the one that's most comfortable for you, then buy BPA free bottles that match or work with the pump.

Stock up on diapers or lampin washable nappies or those insert type washable nappies. Don't overstock on clothes as kids outgrow them quite fast and learn whatever you can on breast feeding. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than powders and it's waaaaaaaaaaay better for the kid.

Good luck!

I wish I knew that because I certainly got chopped.

Anyway right now there's an official importer for Concord bringing in the Concord Reverso which is also an extended rear facing chair like the Max Fix.

You can buy anything from the states without tax as long as hand carry. If shipped back will have 15% import tax and 6% GST.

Pebble (compliant with UN ECE R44) has been replaced by the new UN ECE R129 i-Size standard compliant Pebble Plus. Passes more stringent crash test.
