Whatever the seat you're buying, make sure you get to test fit it in your car. Graco seats usually are huge and won't fit comfortably on contoured seats.

Not all cars are built the same either. Myvi rear bench seats are flat whereas seats in a Nissan are slightly rounded. Larger seats may not comfortably sit on a shaped seat.

So back to my point, when buying a seat, buy from a shop that'll let you test fit it first. Prices don't differ too much from shopping centers and fairs anyway.

I totally agree that the car makes a difference. That's why I keep asking when people give their feedback on carseats, PLEASE mention what car(s) you're using your carseat with.
*
Personally I have used a Halford newborn to 15kg adjustable/front facing seat on a Myvi and Sylphy. Works well facing front or back, as long as it's on the back seat. It does not sit well in a Wira though.

Btw, car seats have a lifespan. Probably best not to use hand-me-downs if they are older than 5 years of age.

Has anyone used Sparco before? it cost about 600, i seen a few people use it, just not sure if it's good. any advice please?

i am considering sparco RM600 or joie stages RM900
*
You could probably do better. The Fischer Price one (forgot what model) is cheaper than Sparco and has pretty much the same functionality since it's more of a booster seat than a toddler seat.

The Sparco seat is very plush though, that's a huge plus point.

Is it advisable to go straight into a car seat 0-4yrs old or should I start with the infant carrier first? Not sure what the difference are since there are many that has the infant inset for car seat. Then again, I've read that infant carrier does have a better incline posture to support baby's spine, but I was thinking if a car seat is ECE certify and have the infant inset and it is for 0-4years, shouldn't it also be contoured for newborn posture?

Also, may I know where can I see/get/buy the Chicco NextFit?

Thanks. FTM

Buy whatever fits. 0-4 should be facing backwards, slightly elevated (not completely flat) and of course strapped down. If your infant is too small for those rear facing seats, then get the carrier that's made for the car (not those 3-in-1 types that loosely belt down to the car).

Why are they not safe? Anyway, I still need to take the baby around, for checkup, vaccination and such, care taker..I still need a car seat regardless of the car...right?

Don't read the negative comments and just go with a fitting yourself. Go to a baby shop like Babyjaya in Uptown and just test fit the seats/carriers in your CX5 and buy a suitable sized seat that can secure itself facing backwards (your kid cannot face forward until he/she is able to sit up right on his/her own). Whatever best fits is the best seat for you. All depends on the size of your baby. Find one that has good neck support otherwise buy seat paddings that'll support his/her neck so it doesn't move around.

Now most of the modern cars won't able to sustain serious impact.
Now we are using the cheapest car seat(just rm50) and call it the day laugh.gif
*
Are you stupid or something? Modern cars are way more safer than older cars. CX5 has a 5-star NCAP safety rating. Good luck to you and your RM50 car seat. I pity your kid.

So I've come to realise. And yes, I intend on doing that. Responding to him/her will only encourage further garbage coming out from his/her mouth.

Hey thanks. I will try to read more and hopefully get a good deal at the coming fair in Midvalley. I read that the maxi cosi pebble is an upgrade of cabriofix and it has both the isofix base and can be used with regular seat belt as well. because my car has isofix but my husband's does not. But unfortunately I have not found a site carrying the base. I might just go with just the seatbelt

Try calling the official distributor directly :

Planete Enfants Sdn. Bhd
No. 23, Jalan SS 26/15
Taman Mayang Jaya
47301 Petaling Jaya
Selangor, Malaysia
Tel: 603-78035523
Fax: 603-78035323
jackie@planeteenfants.com.my

These folks are quite responsive the last time I tried emailing them. As for seatbelt, like I said earlier - go test it if they allow it. I've asked Babyjaya in Uptown PJ and they are receptive to testing. Certain Aeons allow you to test but I've found that it's easier to do this if it's not peak, like during office hours during the day. The biggest issue with seatbelt setups is left-right movement so be sure to test for that. Most are quite ok with front/back movement.

I've also found that baby fairs are not always the cheapest. Sometimes they are clearing old stock - then you'll get it cheap. Other times they are just there because they can be and in those times the seat prices are more or less the same as shops (as long as you bargain).

Good luck hunting.

Thanks alot, I have already emailed them will see if they have and what would be their advice. My friend told me that fair isn't always cheaper, but I think I will just go and check it out and see if I missed something in my list of 'Things to prepare/buy/stock before arrival'. I'm always stocking up on baby wipes (I get staff price from friend) and sanitary (people said that I might 'bleed' for a month after delivery)

Not sure how soon/later I should start buying baby bottles and how many do I need to buy, even newborn diapers and infant diapers too...
*
I might be going off-tangent a bit here but don't overstock on wipes. They dry up after a while so buy enough to last a week or two and leave it. For bottles look for one that'll fit your breast pump system. For pumps go to this shop in Klang called Enjoybreastfeeding "http://www.enjoybreastfeed.com/aboutus.php", they let mothers test fit pumps. Buy the one that's most comfortable for you, then buy BPA free bottles that match or work with the pump.

Stock up on diapers or lampin washable nappies or those insert type washable nappies. Don't overstock on clothes as kids outgrow them quite fast and learn whatever you can on breast feeding. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than powders and it's waaaaaaaaaaay better for the kid.

Good luck!

I'm not a heavy stroller user. Only take out to use occasionally, but it's nearly 3 years old and still functioning well. No jamming when opening or closing and no tears in the fabric or dents, cracks or breaks to the frame.
*
Isn't that true for most reputable strollers? I've been using the Anakku foldable design similar to Halford stroller for close to 5 years. My kids outgrew it so now I have an old stroller sitting at home and everything still works. Whats more the way I washed it was : high pressure water jet spray + dynamo scrubdown + plenty of sun. flex.gif

I personally think if you're looking for a stroller and you're comparing reputable brands, just buy whichever suites your budget and requirements. Maclaren makes pretty good lightweight mobile strollers for frequent travellers. Stokke makes awesome stylo-milo strollers that weigh a tonne. Anakku is the cheap and cheerful but appropriate padding strollers. Etc.

do u know where can we get car seat cover?

I got my Halford baby car seat cover from the Halford distributor. RM180 for a new cover with new sponge. I'd recommend you get from the same brand distributor. No one makes universal covers unfortunately.

Actually, it's not a good idea to get a "universal" cover or a cover from another manufacturer. This is because the carseat is tested for crashes using exactly everything that comes in the box with your carseat, and when you use something else or add anything else, it may not work in the accident the way it was tested. So you shouldn't add anything and you shouldn't replace anything, unless the carseat manual specifically says you can, or you've contacted the manufacturer and the manufacturer says you can. Not even the strap pads or the pillow under your baby's head!
*
I never said there's a universal cover la Hanis. Have a read again! I said I replaced my Halford cover with another Halford cover. And I replaced the cover because the old one was covered in puke, urine and because of that the sponge inside disintegrated. Replacing it just made it more comfortable for my kid and yes, I did check the expiry date of the seat and was well within the limits.

Halford makes replacement covers for their different models of child seats so each replacement cover is a perfect fit for the chair you're using.

My bad if I wasn't clear in my response.

Anyone using the maxi cosi pebble or pebble plus paired with the 2wayfix base?
Saw this online and it seems a bit loose? Or is this the norm for all car seat/base configurations?

p.s. new to all these stuff, the whole setup looks a tad 'tall' to me, again is this the norm? The pebble supposedly can be switched to the larger maxi cosi pearl... will the whole thing even fit into my crv's back seat?
I'm supposed to isofix this into the middle seat right?

TQ in advance.
*
An ideal seat when locked down shouldn't have too much (or none at all) side-to-side and forward/backward movement. This Pebble in the video seemed quite rock solid.

Different cars have different isofix points. Use whichever your car has, there's no "right" or "wrong". If your CRV has isofix in the middle seat only then use that. All depends on your car.

I mean, logically I have to be sitting behind as well to take care of the fussing baby and the toddler. If I'm sitting in front, is hard to do anything at all.

I fit 2 car seats in my Sylphy. The middle seat is a little tight but it's still acceptable for short drives. Long drives it's tiring. You need a wider car or a bigger car/mpv. Time for an upgrade

Get one that's well padded and well ventilated. Then make your baby get used to it. No baby likes being strapped down compared to being carried. Safety vs babys preference.
