Buy the CFE version and you will get this 5 star car.

The ausie version only have to extra side curtain airbag thats all.

I see lots of k/ pipu here are too ego to give credit when its due.

We are talking about the car safety feature and improvement made by proton then all sudenly talk about price naik la, tongkat la, malaysia got different car la. What the farking fak?

Love all the compact 3rd rate import cars all u want. Guess what? The tax is here to stay, time to live with it and accept the fact that you are living in Maalaysia, not in korea, japan or the USA u always been DREAMING about. So accept the fact that proton sell a higher spec car at a lower price compared to other makers in Malaysia.

That is a fact.

Why not leave your biased and unrelated view for once and talk about the car.

ESC is compulsory nowadays.. without ESC, the car wont go beyond 3 star. curtain is a big bonus point. with ESC and without curtain airbag, the car can only get 4 star...

ahh it seems for 2013 AUS NCAP has updated the way the rate their tests:

Note ruffstuff

QUOTE
Dear Name censored tongue.gif,

Thank you for contacting ANCAP.

To achieve the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating, a vehicle must achieve a minimum score across all physical tests as well as meet minimum requirements for the inclusion of mandatory and additional safety equipment and safety assist technologies (SAT).

In 2013, the physical tests ANCAP conducts are:

1.             Frontal offset test - simulates hitting another car of the same mass travelling at the same speed – maximum 16 points.  Minimum of 12.5 points required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

2.             Side impact test - simulates two cars colliding at 90 degrees – maximum 16 points.  Minimum of 12.5 points required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

3.             Pole test - simulates a car colliding sideways with a fixed object such as a tree or a pole – maximum 2 points (only available where vehicles are fitted with head protecting side airbags).  Minimum of 1 point required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

4.             Pedestrian test - simulates a collision between a car and a pedestrian. Minimum score of 'Marginal' required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

5.             Whiplash test - assesses the performance of the seat and head restraint in protecting the occupant from neck and spinal injury through dynamic performance and geometric measurements. Minimum score of 'Acceptable' required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

To achieve a 5 star ANCAP safety rating in 2013, a vehicle must also have:

·         electronic stability control (ESC)

·         3-point seat belts for all forward facing seats

·         head-protecting technology (side airbags) for front seats

·         seat belt reminders for front seats

·         emergency brake assist (EBA)

·         3 x additional SAT (such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), blind spot monitoring (BSM) etc.).

ANCAP recommends vehicles which have been awarded the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

If you need any further information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Kind regards,

reasons :

korea government subsidized their cars, while proton being taxed too

they sell more so can sell cheap....cost is cheaper

· head-protecting technology (side airbags) for front seats

curtain airbags is side airbag, since preve does not have side door trimmed airbag.. that might required additional 2 airbags to the preve, making it in total 8 airbags..

you are precisely right my dear sir. I'm the typical poor Malaysian that can only afford a proton with minimum safety features.
tell me. what new car that can fit a family of 4 with 5-star NCAP can I buy for 50k and below?

safety do comes first of course. instead of relying on those expensive gadgets that I can't afford, I just have to realise that i'm driving a tin can and I have to be extra careful on the road.

of course the other manufacturers have to sell their cars at low safety specs here. they have to lower their cost while remaining profitable/competitive. thanks to the high cost of cars. thanks to our government's policy to protect a certain car manufacturer here.

now, which part of high cost do you not understand?
*
At 50k there is nothing, true. The Proton Saga FLX+ did almost get 4 stars ASEAN NCAP, so that's your best bet. Of course it doesn't have side airbags at all, so there is no protection. Still the best car below 50k.

At 70-80k there is the Fiesta and the Vios. One is one of the safest B segment cars in the world, the other is an outdated car where all the safety features available elsewhere were removed. Same price, and the Fiesta even has a more powerful engine, a more modern and efficient gearbox, better handling. Now which one is the best selling non national car? It should be the Fiesta, right? Very safe, very good price. Oh, wait, no, it's the Toyota! Consumers actually these days have the choice, and what do they pick? One of the least safe cars in the segment. thumbup.gif

The CFE, at it's price, is clearly the safest car in Malaysia. Now if Malaysians vote with their money, other manufacturers will improve. For Proton I think petitions are the right way. But petitions to Proton. Ask them to make the Preve with 6 airbags as an option. Call it CFE+, _ONLY_ difference shall be the extra airbags, not other nonsense that drives up the price. Better yet, make it an option you can check for any Preve. Call it the safety pack. For 2 airbag Preves you top up maybe 6k and you get 6 airbags and ESP. CFE top up 2k and you get 2 more airbags. (In Europe I usually see prices of maybe 250-500 Euro for 2 more airbags). Those that care and can afford can top up. Proton can even make some profit (please not too much) of it...

I guess the problem of no curtain airbag is that the head is not so protected in an side impact, thus it may smash into the side of the car, so readings will be not good enough for a good rating.

I see hmm.gif but of course this is still an improvement for proton cars in malaysia.

At the very least, the chassis itself is quite strong if i may say so

Proton is taxed the same as other ASEAN produced cars, like the Vios. That's why Proton can be much cheaper in other markets. The Preve seems to be very cheap to produce, or they hardly make any profit in Malaysia (or other manufacturers overseas vastly overprice their cars there, and the cars can all be produced very cheap).

I do think the very low price Proton can only demand in Malaysia is what keeps the quality crap. They have like RM 37k to produce a well equipped and powerful C segment car. Toyota has the same sort of money to produce an empty B segment car. Of course the quality can be higher.
