Sorry to divert the heated debate here on the EPF%, a quick update on why I could not log into my EPF ac.

Went to EPF office today for another matter. There I could log in. Thought they have fixed my problem. At home, I could not log in. Tried on my mobile, Yes, I logged in. Instead of Chrome, I used Edge, yes, successfully logged in. Looks like it is a Chrome problem. I had used Chrome for EPF access for years now.

If you have a similar log in problem and using Chrome, use another browser.

Anyone here knows EPF's:
a. domestic annual expenses
b. total including overseas expenses?

Just curious how much they are using for us.

Thanks.

Kesian chance lar. These people never learn real presentation skill. They just read it from the monitor on the stage.

Good that you raised this. I will add my 2 cents. I will give him a 5/10. Dont think the slides were meant for this presentation, too much infor in there. Should be much simpler and to the point = KISS principal.

Heard he says all the revenues are paid out, no reserve. Well, really true?

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 100?

How much is Saga Premium?

Around RM45k. For you, I should extend the range to 1,000 cars.

Is there a possibility that someone can hack into the EPF account, then transfer out the money into bank account, and from there... to other account ?
*
Only if the hacker achieved having access to your EPF ac AND also your bank ac, then to hacker's bank ac.

Some security check when you want register your bank ac. You cannot transfer to any other bank, only the one you have registered with EPF.

Transfer is not immediate, 1 - 3 days to your bank.

Not 100% secured but good enough for normal use with due diligence.

QUOTE(ronnie @ Mar 4 2023, 09:25 PM)
To ensure long-term portfolio health, EPF took the prudent measure of writing down RM3.43 bil of its listed equity portfolio in 2022, which was higher than the RM1.15bil write down recorded in 2021, in line with the volatility in the equity markets.

A total of 74% of the total amount came from Shariah-compliant counters that underperformed, which in turn impacted the EPF’s Simpanan Shariah performance for the year.
*
Interesting. Where did you get that infor? Annual report already out?

Attached Image

Data from EPF web. Lazy to put in the graph titles etc. Ha.

Your view on these dissections?

In the 2nd graph, the Chinese really stand out with their savings, compared to other races.

P/S Before you reply saying the amounts stated are wrong as what you have in EPF is a lot more than the average for your age group, the stated amount is average, so diluting your higher amount. Median is the middle value from low to high.

Rm260k is T20 average? Thought it is higher than this.
*
Yes because it is average. Say you have 5 members in T20, 3 million, 200k, 170k, 150k, 130k, the average is only 730k. The average is distorted by high and low outliers. The median is 170k.

Average and median both have their advantages and disadvantages to show the central tendency.

Pardon me if this is common knowledge. I only realised this the other day when I looked at EPF press release on their B40, M40 & T20. Why is the number of members in B40 and M40 the same? I used to think that there is only 1 common set B40, M40 & T20 for our country. Wrong. The reason why B40 and M40 member numbers in EPF are the same is that B40 is 40% of the members from the bottom up and M40 is the next 40% of the EPF population.

Ditto for B40, M40 & T20 in LHDN. And others.

So, we cannot compare/equate B40 in EPF to B40 in LHDN. Different population segment.

Maybe we can compare B40 in EPF with B40 of another retirement fund.

If I am wrong, please give me a shout. Thanks.

P/S Curious, which B40 is higher, EPF or LHDN? Saw a report stating RM35k to RM100k as LHDN M40.

QUOTE(plc255 @ Mar 8 2023, 11:16 PM)
EPF is ONLY 7 million active members... the rest of 23 million in Malaysia are not using EPF anymore...
dont tell me all these 23 million people not doing something as in work as boss, work contractor, work for government etc etc...

Even if ASSUMING 1/3 of malaysia population is not working (old / retired/ young study etc) still roughly 1 in 3 have EPF and 2 in 3 no longer use / totally not in EPF for whatever reason, pencen included...

There is a larger population outside of EPF.

Is total EPF members a true reflection of the overall population?? It cant be right?? cos it seems like too many not using it (I mean 2 in 3 is a very large percentage).. so what is B40 in EPF mean as in real life? What if these B40 work 1 year in Malaysia and parachute to Singapore???

What about B40 in EPF active members mean?? that 3 million is poorest of malaysia 30 miilion?? Thats only 10% of Malaysia B40, however B40 of Malaysia should be 12 million, where is the other 9 million people???

Some of my friend even mentioned this with regards to EPF:- EPF is kuli class, then there is boss class dan lain lain...

Then there is the issue with LHDN.. is everyone paying tax? Then DOSM figures....

“There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”
*
As I said earlier, I had a misunderstanding that there was only one B40, M40 & T20 set for each country. Realising now, EPF, LHDN etc have their own B40, M40 & T20 profiles. I like to share my finding in case there are others with the same tunnel vision as mine, wondering why the B40, M40 & T20 $ amounts do not make sense.

P/S Sorry, I am a firm believer in maths and statistics. Statistics are not 100% lies. Depends on the person compiling the data and the person reading the statistics.

Hope sifu here can help me. Did Greece's EPF equivalent collapse in the 2008 crisis result in partial or complete loss of members' funds?

if memory serves, pension and defined benefit schemes are more prevalent in greece and many of the european countries. So it is more like our civil servant's pension scheme.

so if anything, civil servants here should be more worried about our gov's spending habits than anyone else.

also, should the unthinkable happens, EPF's exposure overseas of almost 40% would be worth a lot more in myr terms.... imagine ringgit crash to 10 vs usd... mgs is worthless, but the 40% overseas will increase in price in ringgit terms.

Hence why my confidence in EPF... smile.gif
*
Thanks.

Do you know whether it is in black and white that EPF funds cannot be used by govt in times of crisis?

Then again, in times of crisis, who will follow the laws?

unfortunately I don't know....

but as we all know... who knows what malaysia gov and/or its machinery is capable of...

like now if you are in a medical emergency and about to die, the security guard can bar you entry into the emergency room to seek medical help simply cos you are wearing shorts....
sad joke aside, officially EPF can be forced to bail out gov of Malaysia already... EPF can be easily persuaded to subscribe to any and all issuances of MGS as is.... so... no point worrying abt this part.

Thanks.

Pretty soon, a patient on the operating table must be fully dressed for surgery?

Wonder are we the only country with such a dress code for office/building entry?

I asked earlier about what happened to Greece's retirement body in the 2008 crisis. Will we be in the same boat?

A 2nd question, Silicon Valley Bank is in big shxx now. Think this will be like Bernstein and Lehman's in the 2008?

I know this is OOT but with many knowledgeable sufus here, like to pick your brains.

Which is why medical insurance is compulsory. Previous old gen all tarak insurance.

There is an ugly side to this insurance thing. Most people see it as a safety net in times of medical need. Yes, it can be and should be. But it can also be a net full of piranhas. They are there mainly to make money. On claiming, lots of conditions and requirements surfaced that you are not aware of. So, cannot claim.

One thing I still struggle to understand, an operation will cost X if one pays out of pocket but X+Y if one uses the insurance! It is OK as it is the insurance company paying the extra? No, they pay extra and they jack up your monthly premiums. We all suffer.

The insurance industry needs a major overhaul and cleanup.

Same analogy with kwsp, education, medical insurance savings, ....if we are disciplined/endowed n has big multiples of X savings, then ok.

Many people dont even save enuf for X. (No need think about Y).

Im just in the camp who feel in this current society, medical insurance is a necessary evil. Unker put 2 screws on my L3, L4 + physio oledi $75k. Yet many go thru life without a scratch.

Back to kwsp, asnb, fd, etc...grow the $$$....with great wealth, comes more choices n options. Multimillionaires can still choose to go hospital Kerajaan for major Ops, mah...no need buy medical insurance. Just go queue, A&E admission unless life n death can take 15+ hours.

Lastly, just be mindful God decides.

Yes, insurance is a necessity evil. devil.gif

Didnt know we have an IRON man in our group here. Ha. Curious, will that trigger the metal alarm at the airport security check?

QUOTE(Wolves @ Mar 16 2023, 10:24 AM)

Second story. Relatives story but happened almost 10 years or so ago. Bought a policy that specifically says cover "female cancer". Paid more than 5 years. Suddenly felt lump go check coz "can cover". Told to pay first then claim. So she did. After paid and check found a lump. Need further investigation quoted a very pedas price. So she say claim from insurance first. When the report reach them they say actually only cover certain female cancer and the "most common" one breast cancer not covered and diagnostic since related to not covered one, cannot claim. The issue is when buying, there is a "paper" by agent specifically written cover breast cancer but it's a piece of paper la. She got keep. Show the branch. They say what agent says it's what that agent says only, cannot proof is true. But you got stamp name and sign.. they say then go claim from agent. Ask mana agent? Missing in action dunno where. Then ask why female cancer no cover breast cancer? They say removed from coverage coz too many claim and they can "change" without notice coz that's parts of the terms and conditions that ppl agreed upon when sign. Then she straight away stop paying and cancel policy. Don't care losing money coz no use to keep it what. Then go back doctor say pay cash. Straight away bill discount 50 to 80%. Can nego some more. Suddenly all the test more than half not need do. -.-" the only lucky thing is turn out not cancer but just a lump (water pocket?).

***  Mind dropping a hint which company is that? PM me. Thanks.  Agents will tell you what you want to hear, yes, this one is covered, that one is covered. Ask them to show you in black and white before signing the paper. I did that once and did not sign up as she could not show them in the policy.
