Does it mean that (assuming can) 100% deducted from salary, one can still top up max of 60k under self contribution?
Ex: if salary is 100k, 80% (80k) contributed under salary, then can still contribute another 60k under self contribution?
*
I can’t recall since a few years back but it was booked as part of your salary contribution whereas the self contribution is separate.

Indeed; these methods ((caruman sendiri (60k max) & caruman IWS - employee)) are avenues for those not eligible for ASB funds… it’s liquid for those above 55years old and >1M.

Or withdraw everything if left the country 😉

The same group of people or would tend to have this line of mindset, I would say

1. They want to increase limit of the contribution to EPF, 60K or all kind of systematic abuse from employer side contribution or whatever
2. They want to preserve wealth in EPF buy passing around the money to transfer to their kins account or so on
3. They are very against the tiered dividend proposal hoo haa drums by the press and some writers

These are bunch of group my selfish interest first and only the rich will think of.

I would say if EPF allows 1. Unlimited contribution, and 2. Wealth can pass around in EPF to another account.

Then I would say option 3....Tiered dividend, to be FAIR...to be fair ya, EPF to implements it. Fair point?
YOu can stuff 1 milliion into EPF unlimited contribution, you can pass and transfer to whoever you want kids, daughter, son, favourite aunt whatever...

but then the higher your account, you get a CAP % (tiered) of that amount.....the investment dividend return EPF got out of that income then increase to the B40 or the lower.

Let say, this year EPF announce those below 100K in account gets 8%, between 100 to 1million 6%, above 1 million 4%.....fair deal? Then EPF really need to work out, and the Gov also need to see...can they get inheritance tax, so on, all party of interest will definitely comes in when talking about pie distribution and about money...will attract bosskur attention
*
Don’t forget that the S&P500 has outperformed EPF over any 10 year period. It is quite simple to find a cost efficient ETF that tracks it. So please focus on your own EPF and increasing the contributions by maybe changing jobs, upskillng or other initiatives instead of pushing a communistic agenda into EPF or Malaysia for that matter.

A fairer implementation would be to only subsidise those above age 45 with consistent working contribution of at least 20 years and not a civil servant or pensioner and not done any withdrawal before with a fund size below 100k. I think it would wipe out at least 50% to 70% of those eligible.
*
This sounds very technical and biaised. Why subsidise at all using others EPF saving? If there is a need, it should be done from the govt coffer with tax collection.

because that's how tax works too. the more u make, the more u contribute.

Tax yes but not investment funds or retirement funds. The returns are distributed in relation to holding.

correct.

as a matter of principle... I will 100% withdraw if forced to tier...

but for now plan to ask wifey put 100% salary into epf... smile.gif

This joker will push for tiered, anything to stay out of jail and keep his followers happy. Did anyone understand his proposal - it seems to be based on new contribution? Up to 100k only.

Anybody seen the structure proposed? I only saw the table in his fb. Not entirely easy to understand, based on new contribution or total assets below 100k?

So from what I can understand with all the withdrawal articles is that the liquidity for payout is taken from the offshore investments, likely since they do not want to cause any jitter in the local market. These investments have historically generated higher returns than the local market so we lose out on it. This is pointing to placing everything in a s&p500 etf if the politicians continue to meddle.

There you go, politicians in it again. Who will they turn on when nothing left in EPF. Tier model, better have a backup plan.

Here we go again, more on the tiered dividend issue. I really hate it that these journalists keep harping on this.

Thanks Malek for pointing out the main reason with low balances.

I would suggest that EPF also raises self contribution amounts (100k) this year to plug the exodus from withdrawals and maintain their positions.

Has Cindy Yeap changed her name to Asia Analytica?

why not just put everything in EPF to get 5-6% compounded return?

I leave very minimal in my bank account, but in some ways, I feel a bit poor. Call it negative wealth effect.  hmm.gif

I think many retirees do this, that’s why they are dependent on no change to the structure since it is their main cashflow.

Is this TRUE????????????

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has loaned RM25.29 billion to government-onwed construction firm Pembinaan PFI Sdn Bhd, with the loan is guaranteed by revenue from leasebacks from the Malaysian government.

Prime Minister cum Finance Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak added the EPF has also invested RM200 million in debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), in a written parliamentary reply yesterday.

These two transactions are among EPF’s total portfolio exposure in government-linked companies (GLCs) totalling RM79.99 billion as of March 31 this year.
He said EPF’s financing exposure in GLCs was in the form of fixed-rate loans and bonds or sukuk subscriptions were part of it, based on government guarantee, asset mortgage and bank guarantee.

Pembinaan PFI Sdn Bhd has racked up debts of up to RM26.6 billion in just seven years since its inception.

The Finance Ministry Incorporated-owned “special purpose vehicle” set up on Sept 28, 2006, the company was aimed at acquiring capital to fund development projects and programmes identified by the government.

According to the auditor-general’s report in 2013 (Series 3), Pembinaan PFI had the third highest liabilities among all government-owned entities at the end of 2012.
On overall EPF’s investment in GLCs, Mohd Najib said the investments were aimed to provide stable and consistent returns in the long term.

More than 50% of the investments were in fixed-income instruments, which encompassed Malaysian government securities, level coupon bonds as well as loans and bonds for domestic and global mandates.

As such, he said EPF’s investment returns naturally would be influenced by interest rates movement and inflation.

“Since inflation rates have increased since 2009, EPF will continue to invest and diversify its investments in equity asset class and inflation comprising real estate and infrastructure in line with its strategic asset allocation in order to generate an optimal investment returns at an appropriate risk,” he added.

Interesting, what was the rationale? USD/MYR remains 3.5-3.8 in my head so I can't bare to convert at these rates 😅
