QUOTE(Wedchar2912 @ Apr 25 2024, 02:54 PM) you are just being humble... although i agree that 5 million is a fictitious number for many, just not sure if its applicable to you ... eitherway, after Nov last year (failure of KPI as set by myself) together with March's EPF rational, I expedited my portfolio balancing... and just threw a chunk out... Slowing down this week, but may restart again next quarter (either from EPF or from my bursa equities)... now I am sad cos my Epf balance is no longer sizable but still gives enough dividend to cater to my minimum survival spending budget. lol. WoW Bro! That is drastic! What have you migrated to? iF you don't mind sharing?

QUOTE(nexona88 @ Apr 26 2024, 02:24 PM) T20s occupy 82.4% of the total savings in EPF. B40s, despite being the largest population, only occupy 1% of the fund. On average, T20s have 163 times more savings compared to B40s, and 10x more versus M40s. Now, given the option to withdraw from Account 3: • The rich will use it to make more money. • The less fortunate will use it for necessities. • The poor will use it to go for holiday. Malaysia’s wealth gap is already wide enough, and this will make things worse https://twitter.com/thefuturizts/status/178...CT25Kp87VVkgxzAWhat is definition of T20? Is it household income of Rm10k or EPF savings of RM200k? T20 is 20% of the 16million members. That is pretty high!

QUOTE(soul78 @ Apr 28 2024, 06:08 PM) This is really gonna be scary if they cant hold above 5. We're in a 3 body problem then with EPF : - Not enough money to retire - lower dividend returns - Inflation and currency devaluation TRIPLE WHAMMY at the doorstep of EPF.

QUOTE(annoymous1234 @ May 1 2024, 09:11 AM) Finally a black and white answer about self contribution, for those who want to treat EPF like saving account, too bad. https://soyacincau.com/2024/04/30/epf-accou...ribution-ratio/Why too bad? I am treating it like a high interest rate savings account. Withdrawing any time i want to.

QUOTE(Singh_Kalan @ May 11 2024, 09:35 PM) My guess is this Account 3 is created to appease B40, at the same time it does not cause much resent to the rest, a balancing act. Dividend probably will be the same across all the accounts for a foreseeable future at the expense of lower overall dividend payout. Everything done by PMX nowadays is to appease and hope to win votes. Preparing the ground for a bleak future for the younger ones.

QUOTE(hksgmy @ May 12 2024, 07:45 AM) Sis, is the KWSP contribution rate higher than CPF’s? We contribute 17% and the company tops up 20% but the contribution is capped at a max salary of SGD8,000 (from Jan 2026). It’s at $6,800 right now, up from $6,000 previously This feels rather low? SGD8k in 2026 is not much to shout about. Why such a low cap? This post has been edited by prophetjul: May 12 2024, 07:54 AM

QUOTE(hksgmy @ May 12 2024, 07:54 AM) Yeah, it isn’t much… hence, I certainly won’t and don’t rely on the CPF to fund my retirement. What is the reason to put in such a low cap? This will mean that the employers also has to contribute less. Is Singapore's cost of labour getting too expensive?

QUOTE(gashout @ May 12 2024, 07:59 AM) Prophetjul’s RM5m in EPF is a dream for you while your SGD 3 mil bond is a dream for him 🤭 And I'm just here reading to flexing story. But it's an inspiration to me 🙏🏻. Overall, I still think - currency strength with lower return > retirement fund return with higher return Don't compare lah. He is a medical specialist in Singapore while i am a Malaysian engineering manager. How to compare? i just did the best i can with my capital avail to me.

QUOTE(gashout @ May 12 2024, 08:11 AM) And with children overseas, grown up and working right now, you did very well 🙏🏻 Actually i was lucky and blessed in my career. Normally, an engineer in Malaysia does not achieve too much financial success as an employee. i joined an MNC as a manager and was promoted very fast to GM in my early 30s. They practiced MERITOCRACY. That's why my EPF grew much faster than the normal employee. Otherwise, there is no way i could afford overseas schooling for my children. No way. Of course i was blessed in my investments too.

QUOTE(hksgmy @ May 12 2024, 08:32 AM) To keep company costs down, I suspect. It’s always been so low. When I first started, it was capped at $5,000! Good for me, i suppose. Since i own so many Singapore companies. Especially those lovely banks!

QUOTE(Chrono-Trigger @ May 12 2024, 08:36 AM) I think their CPF concept is to fund citizen's own retirement , by taking into account future inflation and medical needs. It's not meant as an instrument for rich to become richer, for that they need to explore non government guaranteed financial investments outside. EPF is also created for retirement. However, if EPF was to have capped my contribution at 8k years back, i would have found it rather difficult to retire now. Now think of those who are less blessed than me! They would have to continue to work till 100 years old. IF the exchange rate of RM to SGD remained at 1, maybe we could cap. Now as it is, even RM5 million is not so much. Better than most, but it's only SGD 1.4 million.

QUOTE(gashout @ May 12 2024, 08:50 AM) Indeed. Help me understand one thing. Your number is a huge number. Did you self contribute when you were young or all depended on the normal contribution as an employee? Normal contribution. Never contributed extra. Not even sure if they allowed that in the 1980s! well, imagine earning RM10k at 30 in 1992. AND having 4 to 5 months bonus on top annually. growing at 5% per annum.
