QUOTE(prophetjul @ Feb 17 2023, 12:05 PM)
O my..........

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2023...h-a-second-look

PETALING JAYA: The recommendation by the World Bank to increase the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) withdrawal age from 55 to 65 years should not be cast aside completely, although some experts question whether it is suitable for Malaysians.

Sunway University director of the Economic Studies Programme Prof Yeah Kim Leng said the recommendation is worth considering given that the retirement age has been raised to 60.

“Contributors who are still employed and receiving wages may be prone to imprudent or excessive spending if allowed full withdrawal five years before retirement.
“Special needs whereby the withdrawals will enhance their financial well-being without compromising their retirement needs, such as paying off mortgages or investing in an annuity that provides greater security during old age, can be looked into by the EPF,” he told The Star yesterday.

However, he added that the EPF would need to mount engagement sessions and gather feedback from contributors.

On Thursday, the EPF stated that it took note of the World Bank’s suggestion but had no plan to increase the withdrawal age for contributors, as every major policy is addressed in a prudent manner.

Prof Dr Chung Tin Fah of HELP University said the World Bank’s proposal to gradually raise the age of EPF members’ full withdrawal is aligned with an ageing population scenario where the retirement age may be raised.

“Many countries have already raised their retirement age and will continue to do so for those who are healthy and willing to work.

“A productive workforce is better than just being dependent on a narrow workforce defined by age. This cannot be done without also raising the retirement age,” he said.

Chung believes that gradually raising the withdrawal age is a good way to avoid panic.

He added that EPF, as a responsible institution, could not raise the age requirement unilaterally without prior approval from the government and other stakeholders.

However, Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) economics professor Geoffrey Williams said the current policy of the EPF should be retained and any changes should be made as part of a full review of the pension policy.

“This should cover EPF and all other pension offers.

“Many people have made plans to withdraw at the age of 55, possibly to transfer into other, better investments,” he said.

Williams also argues that the World Bank’s approach of working longer and saving more does not work in the Malaysian context.

would you happen to have the link still?

nonetheless, my strategy is always to withdraw each week the amount I need for the week or to top up my 10K rm buffer in my savings account. No point "losing" out on free dividend...  biggrin.gif

Wah, Bro kaya-est so far, weekly spend $10k. Eat what?

no lar... the 10K rm is buffer.... cos even request withdrawal from EPF takes 1 to 2 days...
and to make life easier, should withdraw like in chunks of 5 to 10K... don't lar each time withdraw 500 rm and almost every other day.

I am sure some EPF employee will notice and then curse me for the transactions. haha

Daily 2 roti kosong * $1.20 + 2 chapati *. $1.50.

I just need to on kwsp line withdraw $20 every alt day. This will minimize kwsp loss in dividend. I learn from Suze Orman.

Happy weekend semua!

Ah.. Thanks for correcting. I keep forgetting which one (hence the question mark "i think" statement). I still got some time before i hit 50 so i just speed reading and plan and forget until when i reach closer to decide what to do.
Yeah. That's what they saying and you can select withdraw all, partial or monthly auto withdrawal and they claim monthly auto withdrawal they will withdraw full year amount and that amount will not earn interest even though still held in kwsp. Example 2k a month (my plan when i hit the age) instead of taking out 2k in January to give me in January only, they withdraw 24k and that 22k (after give January 2k) will not accumulate dividend. If this is true then it is not worth doing auto monthly withdrawal but manually withdraw as needed so the other amount for the year still accumulate dividend. Since you are that age, you got anybody you know who is doing auto monthly withdrawal to confirm this? 😂
Uncle.. eat better la. Work so long already can relax a bit plus we dunno how long we can live. I don't even think i can live past 60. So can enjoy a bit. Aim to live until 100 and if kick bucket earlier then pass to spouse or kid. You leave millions to them also no use leh if you no enjoy some. Don't splurge, just live better.

Just to add to what MUM said. Read this link and it should be very clear here

kwsp self contribution page

For topping up until after 55. If you still working and contributing through normal worker route, i-saraan and so on, after 55 account 1 and 2 merged into account 55 upon where you can take out as many and as frequent as you like and the kwsp paid through work/i-saraan will go into account emas that can only be withdrawn when you hit 60 years old. That account emas can contribute until 75 years old. Topping up only until 55 into account 1 (coz you no longer have account 1 and 2 by age 55, edit to clarify. You can still top up into account emas until 75 years old). That is my understanding from the kwsp website. Correct me if i am wrong smile.gif

Not that easy also for civil servants 🤦‍♀️

I remember someone who did it before told me that they need the DG and minister to sign off before it is approved and it took almost 3 years just to do it

So don’t think it is that easy because those who left civil service must make sure they meet the requirements 1st before they do it
