Canon drag again revealing SX50 successor to January 2014 in CES

QUOTE
CES 2014 in Las Vegas
Canon will be announcing new PowerShot cameras for CES as per usual.

Two cameras we’re told could be coming are a PowerShot SX60 HS, Canon’s big zoom range compact. We’re told the camera will take a bit of a “new direction”, though we weren’t told what. We’re also told that a redo of the PowerShot G1 X with an APS-C sensor could also be coming. Though the source says they haven’t heard much about the development for “some time now”.

I think it’s almost a guarantee we’ll see an SX50 HS replacement, I’m not sure the G1 X will get a direct replacement though.

CES could also be a good place for the new EOS M to make an appearance, but we can’t confirm that to be the case.

Remember too, that it’s the Consumer Electronics Show, we generally don’t see prosumer level gear getting announced.

Since i already sold by S120's build-in starmode, 1080p 60fps video, BG Defocus, f1.8, 1/1.7" sensor, wifi and most importantly the size ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2DRAU9QBM4 ) , it will be a nice companion to compliment SX50.

Unless the "new direction" is integrating S120's features in SX60 or follow Sony's QX Lens-Camera or Nokia Lumia 1020 zoom direction?

Bring it On Canon. I just want a very significant direction that could smoke your competitor far behind. How about Digic6 1" sensor and 100X Optical zoom without looking like DSLR or bridge camera.?

Hi Chokia

I actually found such enthusiasts in this forum on this particular camera.

I actually purchase this camera just last weekend for our short holidays. But then finally today as i was viewing the photo taken.

Cant see that the picture taken was as stunning as the one you have posted.

I actually use Auto most of the time, and i also found that my movie recorded from this camera, has slight flickering and also cracking along the movie taken.

Dont know if its normal? am using class 10 and also 4 sd card, both has the same effect on the movie shot taken.

Hope to hear from you soon, in sharing the experience.

Cheers

Tips given by photographer to me is just take many shots of the some subject. Then choose the best one. i believe they dont just simply display any photo they took especially if it is SOOC,

So there's no secret there.

I don't see any problem on that except the sensor,1 inch will result in 2.5 crop mode and
it need a bigger lens in order to maintain that 100x zoom
but i do like them to put a manual zoom style lens biggrin.gif

Canon Europe issues Safety Advisory for Zinc bis content on new SX50's viewfinder batch (produced between 1 September and 15 November 2013) that may cause skin allergy.

QUOTE
FAQ: Important announcement regarding PowerShot SX50 HS
Details:

It has been confirmed that the rubber section of the viewfinder on a limited number of units of the PowerShot SX50 HS compact digital camera may change color (turn white) after a short period of time.

The rubber section of the viewfinder on a limited number of PowerShot SX50 HS digital compact cameras produced between 1 September and 15 November 2013 may turn white after a short period of time. After investigation and analysis with the rubber manufacturer, we have determined that zinc bis (N,N’-dimethyldithiocarbamate) is the substance that causes the rubber surfaces to turn white (see surfaces in image below).

The amount of this substance that has been detected on any individual unit is minimal but in rare cases, depending on individual sensitivity, contact with this substance may cause an allergic skin reaction.

Helpful Information:

Affected Products

Only a limited number of units of the PowerShot SX50 HS compact digital camera that were produced between 1 September and 15 November 2013 are affected by this phenomenon.

The serial number of any unit can be used to check whether an individual camera is potentially affected by this phenomenon – see the base of the camera.

This phenomenon may occur in cameras of which the first and second digits from the left in the serial number are “69”, “70”, or “71” and the sixth digit of the serial number is “1”.
(Example serial numbers of cameras that may be affected)
“69xxx1xxxxxx”, “70xxx1xxxxxx”, “71xxx1xxxxxx” (‘x’ can be any number)

Further Details

About Zinc bis (N,N’-dimethyldithiocarbamate):

Zinc bis is not used in the production of this product. However, the quantity of rubber accelerator used in the affected production lots was slightly higher than usual. As a result the rubber section of the viewfinder may turn white due to a chemical reaction with the rubber accelerator and other substances. High temperature and high humidity may contribute to this condition. Zinc bis (N,N’-dimethyldithiocarbamate), which becomes deposited on the rubber surface, is created as a result of this chemical reaction.

About any possible reaction:

Although only a minimal amount of zinc bis (N,N’-dimethyldithiocarbamate) can be detected on any one single unit, when this substance is in contact with the skin, in rare cases and depending on one’s health and physical conditions, allergic skin reactions may develop. In addition, if eyes are rubbed with hands adhered with this substance, symptoms such as red eyes may develop.

As a precautionary measure, thoroughly wash your hands with water if they have come in contact with rubber parts that have turned white.

Allergic skin reactions:

In the event that the substance in question is absorbed into the body through skin contact, it may invoke a sensitization response. An allergic skin reaction may be induced as a result of sensitization when the skin has been in contact with the foreign substance. Please note that the occurrence of an allergic skin reaction on contact with this substance depends on length and type of contact with the substance, individual health and physical conditions, and individual skin sensitivity. Not everyone will be affected by allergic symptoms and the severity of any such allergic reaction will depend entirely on the individual.

If medical symptoms develop, please consult your physician.

Solution:

We will provide a free repair service for all cameras identifed as having been affected by this phenomenon. This free repair service will begin on 13 January 2014.

If your product is one of those identified as potentially affected by this phenomenon, you are kindly requested to contact one of our authorised service facilities.

If you have any further enquiries please contact us using the e-mail support or telephone support option.

We offer our sincere apologies to customers who have been inconvenienced by this. Canon strives to provide the highest quality products to our customers, and we spare no effort in our quality management to make sure our customers use our products with confidence. While i was busy participating the Moonlanding Hoax thread in RWI section, someone has captured some kind of "landing" with his SX50. Moon doesn't have atmosphere to create any form of burning entrance or explosion, so left everyone clueless what they are. (He should've zoomed 200X in fullHD instead.)

Imagine SX50 successor with 100X optical x 4X digital = 400X, anyone can see what's going on the lunar surface live yet find the landing sites and debunk any claim of hoaxes SOOC.
