strength or hypertrophy?

why not both, workout same bodypart twice a week, first day for strength second day for hypertrophy ?
*
I would recommend PHAT for that kind of goal. But PHAT is super taxing to your body but I love it biggrin.gif

I've decided to start cutting next week. My current bf % is 18%, planning to cut till 12% and start bulking. Any tips? smile.gif regarding on diet and weight training. Isit recommended for me to do HIIT and start on high reps training instead of sticking myself doing cardio for a long time? My plan stack :- Syntha-6 and Atomic 7 (BCAA) and green tea
*
HIIT would be the best bet IMO. The EPOC effect is good for your body. Keep in mind that during cutting phase, you'll see a lot of energy loss. If there's any reduction on any exercises' PR, that is normal. Weightlifting is needed to ensure minimal muscle loss so I guess hypertrophy is better compared to strength.

Would you recommend me to 'change' my goal, since bulking isn't working well for me. I've pushed as hard as i could everyday in the gym
*
If bulking ain't working well for you, would it be best to find out what's wrong and fix them rather than change your goal? IIRC, last few days, I do ask about your carb intake because you've listed protein as the only macronutrition that you counted right? I guess changing your goal is the same as evading a problem, which isn't a very good thing IMO.

A lil form check on my smith squat please. Should I go lower to break parallel? I've read about how it's dangerous to squat above parallel and it's gonna hit the patella very hard.

*
I'm never a big fan of Smith Squat but I'm not here to judge. I watched a video by Scott Herman and it seems that he stands the other way around when squatting with the same machine as yours. And he do managed to squat easily and break parallel.

PHAT? Aside from 'Pretty hot and tempting', I don't know what that means biggrin.gif

Also, for someone who can't bench 135, and has been lifting for a year, would you recommend a strength oriented workout or hypertrophy? I've been working out for a year now. I just want to gain a little size and be lean for the most part, not going for the superbuff look after a certain point.

Also,  I'm away from gym nowadays and only have a barbell where I'm at with really light weights - only fit for isolation. Is an isolation-only workout good for anything?

Haha. Apparently at the time I did the LMGTFY, PHAT is the Power Hypertrophy Adaptive Training and it's the 1st on the search findings. Haha. It's a workout which being popularized by Dr. Layne Norton. It's a combination of strength and hypertrophy workout which is good tbh.

guys, im planning to do cardio to lose fats and make my abs become visible but i have a question, is it ok if i take a scoop of whey protein immediately after cardio?

because from what i've read is calorie deficit will cause muscle loss so it should be good if i take whey protein after cardio right?
*
How would you lose fat if you are not in calorie deficit? And does a single serving of whey protein prevents calorie deficit? rclxub.gif

QUOTE(deadmau5 @ May 24 2013, 02:37 PM)
Hi bros. Is it ok to squat 3 times a week? Basically I squat at the start of every session, with almost 10 sets each time whistling.gif
*
Squat 3 times a week is okay but let me ask you something, what is your goal actually and what is your workout routine?

Let say that you did a 3/4/5 days body part split, by doing 10 sets of squat do takes a lot of energy thus hampering the targetted body part for the day, unless you are lifting light weights. With that point, I might say 10 sets of squat each session is bad for you.

If you aim is to lift heavy ass weight on the big 3 exercises (powerlifter), there are much better squat routine out there to try on. Not just simply do squat. The periodization is different, the weight used for each squat day is different and types of squat routine (dynamic, speed, power) yada yada...

So, my main question still stands, what is the purpose of you doing 10 sets squat every workout session?

but when calorie surplus happens, our body will burn our muscles to provide us energy right?

If calorie surplus, you'll gain mass either fat mass or muscle mass. Which part does it says that it will burn muscle for energy? Do you have the link for your fact?

sorry bro, typo, should be calorie deficit.  tongue.gif

Well, if you are in calorie deficit, you'll surely lose weight. But you have to know, what kind of weight would you want to lose?

Just weight? Then go for Meal Replacement Products such as Herbalife etc2.

You want to lose fat weight (lose body fat)? Then you need to have proper diet which can be constructed after you find out your TDEE. With a proper diet, the main issue that you have which is muscle loss can be greatly reduce, and whatever weight that we lose from the fat.

QUOTE(twhong_91 @ May 25 2013, 10:11 PM)
currently i'm building my body and i wanted to get 6 pack, therefore, i've decided to do cardio such as swimming or jogging to lose body fat and make the abs become visible because it's pointless if we do abs exercise without losing the belly fat right? I've read some articles saying that calorie deficit can cause muscle loss, so my friend told me that i should drink whey protein after jogging to prevent muscle loss.

So what you are saying is calorie deficit doesnt equal to muscle loss if i maintain my proper diet?

What i usually eat, for example,

8am - 5 teaspoon of oat + 2x banana + coffee + 1 egg (pre workout)
11am - 2 scoops of whey protein (po workout)
2pm - white rice (small) + vege + chicken breast/ chicken + fish
5pm - 2 eggs + fish/chicken breast + 2 slices of whole grain bread
8pm - chicken breast + fish / chicken breast / fish + vege
10pm - tomatoes + 2 slices of whole grain bread
pre-bed - 1 scoop of whey
*
1st of all, cardio isn't the greatest tool to lose body fat. HIIT would be the answer.
I don't want to comment on your diet because I don't know your TDEE, I don't know your daily calorie intake, I don't know how much calorie for your diet. Lost of things needed to be done before you can successfully lose body fat.

The links on my signature can shed some lights for you.

As for deadlifts, how much weight should I lift? Same goes for bench press.
*
The first time I started doing deadlift is by lifting 95lbs (45lbs bar + 2x25lbs plates). I do them 5x5. After I've completed my 5x5 set, I'll up it by 10lbs for the next deadlift workout. Easy right? It's from stronglifts 5x5.

630mg caffeine....  shakehead.gif

how workout? feel pumped?
i stop for 2 months. taking too much pre-workout, cant get the feel even with 400mg caffeine.. zzzz
*
For a person who haven't been stepping to the gym for more than 4 months and not watching whatever type of food going into the mouth, it is a good workout I guess. Managed to do back + arms where it should be either back / arms (5 days split).

Pump wise, not really feel any pump tbh. The capsules are from BSN Hyper Shred (present from GF, not gonna argue about it biggrin.gif ) and the 2nd caffeine source is from BSN Hyper FX (great taste, will try its own effect today for chest).

And... sadly, I'm still awake with a good mental concentration. This is totally sucks doh.gif

Yeah know biggrin.gif but I just got those two supps yest and ofc imma gonna try it straight away and truly that was very bad idea.

Well, after Friday's Prayer, I'm gonna consume the pre-WO alone for chest day or I won't be able to sleep today sweat.gif

Crazy ah... Could have landed you in the hospital if you had unidentified problems.... Anyway just curious what time did you consume the caffeine. If it's 8-9hrs before sleep time it should be fine?
*
2 capsules at 11 am and the pre-WO at 2.30pm and my sleeping time usually at 12-2 am (working at home). Finally I managed to get some sleep, at almost 11 am and just woke up couple of hours later for Friday's Prayer. Time to go to the gym I guess yawn.gif

QUOTE(swks26 @ Jun 7 2013, 09:45 AM)
Wtf, 630mg of caffeine. My heart would probably palpate till it explodes out of my ribs.

I'm good even with 135mg of caffeine.
*
I dunno lol. Last time I've consumed OxyElite Pro; 2 capsules each day (1st fat burner) and not sleeping problem. The extra caffeine from pre-WO is too much for me doh.gif

Nevermind, lesson learned thumbup.gif

This?  tongue.gif  Heartache though...abusing it with weights.... Then again it's supposed to carry 40L

https://www.thule.com/en/my/products/luggag...ule_85854214216
*
40L is the capacity of the bag. It doesn't state the amount of weight it can carry. For a travelling bag pack, I don't think that it is design to carry heavy ass weight for example weight plates for pull up purposes tongue.gif

Guys, I need some consult here.

I got wrist sprained during workout few months back and went for sinseh / tit dar right after that after few treatment. It was okay after then but now the same spot pain again.

I was told that my forearm veins were 'fused' which caused the pain.
Is there any other treatment can be done to get fully recover from this pain?
Or do you guys have any recommendation of treatment centre around Klang Valley area? Thanks!

Add on: Does wrist wrap can totally prevent the pain, just say in long term and recover at the same time?

That guy just asked me to quit weight training instead  cry.gif
*
I had a sprained once on my right wrist, not because of weightlifting but because of a 'tukang urut' wanna show off his skill thus dislocating my wrist doh.gif
It took literally 1 year for the wrist pain to go away but I didn't do any workout/rehab or take any medication whatsoever. I just bear the pain.
