unlocking can only be done software wise on devices that has the eligible baseband. As far as I know, only 3Gs and iPhone 4 on some baseband can be unlocked via software side. No iPhone 4s or iPhone 5 can be unlocked.

No. A backup restore and the Shift +Restore (firmware) is different. The one that wipes your iPhone clean (the clear a previous jailbreak for example) is the Shift + Restore method.

If you have not saved your SHSH blobs for 6.0.1, you will not be able to get that SHSH anyway.

You should however get the SHSH blobs for 6.1 now via Tiny Umbrella. Not sure however if you will be able to upgrade to 6.1 once apple releases a new firmware version because I know that Apple has changed the way they sign the firmware so that's another issue to consider as well.

Jailbroke my wife iPhone 4. The weather app is working fine. The step I followed is this

1. Full backup the phone
2. Shift + Restore the iPhone 4 to 6.1 from a jailbroken 5.1.1
3. Restore the backup
4. Wait for everything to syncs (apps etc)
5. Jailbreak the iPhone 4

This was slightly different from my iPhone 4s jailbreak where I jailbroke it fresh on 6.1 and after the jailbreak baru restore backup.

Now I am trying the iPhone 4 way for the 4s. I will report back if the weather app is okay.

If it is okay, then I think the restore after the jailbreak is the culprit.

I'm testing on my 4s, the resyncing of apps is a pain in the ass. Another 80 apps to sync .... then I will jailbreak.

The first round of jailbreak broke the weather app and since the iPhone 4 weather app since to work following that steps, I thought of re-jailbreaking the 4s. We'll see what happens. Maybe it's the 4s and 5 issue ... I'm sleepy already, finish the sync already !!!!

The weather app in my 4s is still crashing even after I did the restore from backup first before JB, works fine on my wife's iPhone 4. So I think this affects devices sporadically.

No. I've restarted the phones multiple times and everytime it's fine. I do agree that the boot time is a bit long but then again when my 4s was jailbroken on 5.1.1, the Boot time was close to 2 minutes (I am not kidding). My Lumia 920 boots in 15 seconds flat ...

I never use the weather app but since I've been unable to use it, I have this itch to fix it ... why ahh? Will try the manual fix tonight.

Why would you want to run redsn0w on iPhone 5 when evasi0n works fine and actually I personally think is much better than redsn0w.

Weather app is now fixed in my 4s after updating whatever needs to be updated in Cydia.

Maybe your locks screen theme is not compatible with 6.1
