What about fresh restore back to 6.1 1st, then update OTA to 6.1.2 before jb again. Will this work?
*
Apple no longer signs 6.1 so you cannot do a restore to 6.1 anyway. I'm not sure if having the SHSH blobs work in a straight forward way anymore so rather than go through all te hassles of trying to figure out what went wrong with trying to restore 6.1, it is better (I recommend) you do a fresh restore to 6.1.2 since evasi0n still works on it.

Always keep it simple.

hai...

im use 4s 5.1.1 allready jailbreak.. then i want to update 6.1.2... when i connect to itunes to update got error could not be update an unknown error occured (3194)..

so how to solve this problem..?
*
In the first place, you cannot update using the update buttons in iTunes because your 4s is already jailbroken. You need to download the 6.1.2 firmware and doa Shift + restore (an then select the firmware file you downloaded).

Secondly, check your hosts file. You should delete or put a prompt (#), in front of any lines that has xxx.xxx.xx.xxx gs.apple.com

I updated my 4s to 6.1.2 last night. Straight forward operation. iOS also saved all the Cydia settings meaning that when I re-install the tweak, I don't need to do anything else. The App location is remembered, the SBSettings theme is back as before ... very nice.

Other than AnyAttach not working with 6.1.2, everything went well last night.

I did a full restore by the way since I was jailbroken on 6.1

Hi every Sifu, Otai and Guru of jailbreak.. I am noob for this iPhone jailbreak thing.. Currently I am using ip 4S and jailbreak on ios 6.1.2.. Everything works fine for me. But I have 2 questions haunted me for several days already. I need some advises.
1. What will happen to my back up data(purchased apps, pictures, whatsapps  messages and etc.) before jailbreak when I connect to iTunes with new purchase tweak from Cydia? Do iTunes will auto sync apps that I have purchased from Cydia and Cydia itself?
2. Let say apple launches new ios, I need to do factory restore to update my new ios. After I have done updating new ios and Re-install back my backup data, do iTunes will sync back my jailbrake data( apps and jailbreak's ios)? with a situation I have auto backup my data after the first jailbreak. Otherwise, if I purchase apps from iTunes apps store after jailbreak my device, then I sync my ip with iTunes plus  auto backup, after i have done my factory restore, will  this "legal apple apps" still can be found in my iTunes?
Thank you so much for enlighten this noob about jailbreak.
*
If you do a full backup of your iPhone, restoring it prior to jailbreaking or post jailbreaking will not affect the apps. Meaning that after you jailbreak and you restore your backup, all the apps that you purchased will be restored back to the iPhone.

If Apple release an update and you upgrade the OS using a full restore, when you restore back your backup, iTunes will only restore the apps that you purchase legally. All the settings etc but not the jailbreak tweaks.

How's the batt life on 6.1.2 ? Here's mine with a jailbroken 6.1.1.
Usage 4 hrs 7 min
Standby 5 hrs 26 min
Batt left 48% and fully dependent on wifi to Facebook
Whatsapp.

Can't tell you much because the iPhone is the second phone (my main phone is the Lumia 920) so I don't use it much so my battery life is really good because well I don't use it much.

Sifus, i'm new to this SHSH bolbs. Yesterday i noticed the SHSH on top of the Cydia main page. Now it is not there anymore, what does it mean? I tried using Tiny Umbrella (through tutorial) but unable to save with this msg in the log window. What does both(Cydia & TU) of this mean?
APPLE is NOT signing iPhone5_World 6.1 (10B143) SHSH requests anymore. All you can do now is select CYDIA and hope that CYDIA has your SHSH saved. If not, there is nothing you can do.
*
Previously, with SHSH blobs (prior to iOS 5.1 and A5 chip), you are able to downgrade to the version which you have SHSH blobs saved (either in Cydia or locally). The error message you're getting from Cydia is because usually after 12 hours (before it was 2 days) of Apple releasing new firmware versions, Apple will stop signing the SHSH for the older versions. Apple now signs 6.1.2 only and the only SHSH you can save via TinyUmbrella is 6.1.2

Cydia main page will sometime show the SHSH blobs list that it has saved for your device but I also notice that sometimes it will not. The only way to be sure what version it has saved for you is to use TU and check the "retrieve SHSH from Cydia", TU will contact Cydia and get the saved SHSHs for your devices.

Oh thanks! How to do a fresh restore? I try to erase all content and settings in Settings but it takes 2 hours and still going on. Currently on 5.0.1 iOS with redsn0w_win_0.9.10b3 . Anyone know how to update my phone to latest iOS 6.1.2 with evasi0n? Thanks for sharing guys.
*
Ohh dear, you are not supposed to do that on a jailbroken iPhone. That is why it is taking so long.

To do a fresh restore follow these steps

1. Download the 6.1.2 firmware (Google -"Where to download iPhone Firmware iClarified")
2. Once you finished downloading the ipsw file (download using Firefox or if you download using IE, rename the file to ipsw extension instead of the .zip extension)
3. Connect your iPhone to your computer and run iTunes
4. Click on your iPhone on the left sidebar in iTunes
5. Press the Shift key on your keyboard and AT THE SAME TIME press the "Restore iPhone" button in iTunes
6. A window will open asking you to choose the ipsw file you have downloaded

It will take 10 minutes for iTunes to wipe your iPhone and install the new firmware.

can't i just update my ios on itunes straight? why need to dl the ipsw file?
*
Because you are already jailbroken on 5.1.1, the jailbreaking process would have moved some of the system files around which is why it is recommended for you to do a fresh restore (wipe the iPhone clean). But if you want to try the iTunes update way, you're more than welcomed to try and report back to us the results.

No as far as I know, only iPhone 4, 3Gs can downgrade easily using SHSH blobs. The iPhone 4s also can downgrade from 5.1.1 to 5.0.1 I think but the process is convoluted and not as straight forward, like you need the 4.3.3 SHSH, stitch with that SHSH ... just a pain in the ass basically. Not sure about iPhone 5 and iPhone 4s on iOS6

Actually iphone 5 can downgrade to earlier firmware with saved shsh blobs? I know iphone 4 and lower can how about iphone 5 ?
*
No. Saved SHSH blobs does not work with iPhone 5 AFAIK. It probably does not work with the 4s as well (the re-restore process requires 2 blobs IIANM). We save our SHSH just in case the dev team is able to come up with a solution. You don't want to be caught short when they do find a solution.

Thanks chokia for ur prompt reply.
Other than apps, how about hardware, any issue like always shutdown/boot by itself.
*
I Haven't experince that. But I know some tweaks can sometimes be unstable and causes the springboard to crash and you basically had to restart the phone. There have been a couple of instances where the iPhone rebooted itself as well. This was on Absinthe 5.1.1 jailbreak.

It happens.

jailbreakers stay away - musclenerd

Confirmed that 6.1.3 patches the evasi0n jailbreak so DO NOT be silly and upgrade if you want to maintain your jailbreak. Those on A5 devices CANNOT downgrade so again, DO NOT be silly and upgrade.

If there is an app could act as valid itunes server, might possible to do re-restore with our current ios. Havent try coz my 612 very new still no problem. Logically, the tinyumbrella method should works..
*
This is what TinyUmbrella did previously or Cydia for that matter, you bypassed the apple server using the hosts file to either point to Cydia or Locally. Apple has patched that hole a looooooong time ago so that is why saving SHSH for iPhone 4s and 5 will not work anymore.

iOS 6.1.3 Jailbreak To be Released by P0sixninja  thumbup.gif   icon_rolleyes.gif   notworthy.gif

Nope, he is going to wait for iOS7 which makes a lot of sense. No reason to burn one exploit for a minor firmware ....

True, Apple closed the signing for 6.1.2 for their device, but for pre-A5 this not applicable
You can only update to 613 if you want to update your firmware~
*
Doesn't matter if it's A5 chip or A4 chip, you cannot upgrade to 6.1.2 once Apple close the signing period. If you saved the 6.1.2 SHSH for pre-A5 chip, then "maybe" you can upgrade to 6.1.2 but there was some issue with Cydia with regards to 6.x SHSH, if you open Cydia now, you will see that Saurik has removed ALL 6.x SHSH because of some errors. Cydia will have SHSH up to 5.1.1 and then it will jump to 6.1.3 (which is unjailbreakble for A5 devices).

hey thanks for your reply. So if i want to upgrade to iOS 7, i will just upgrade through setting>general>software update? Even though my phone is jailbroken, i still can upgrade the normal way?
*
You need to do a clean format meaning that you need to download the ipsw file manually and then usethe restore function in iTunes

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750 -- the link to where you can find all the firmware versions

Connect your iPhone to iTunes and then press Shift key on your keyboard and at the same time click on the Restore iPhone in iTunes.

Haven't been visiting the iPhone forum for a while ....
