Newbie here. My iOS still in 6.0.2 and now confuse whether update to latest 6.1.2 and jailbreak or should I stay with current version?

As I saw many article outside saying downgrade to previous version. Is there any problem with latest iOS?

Question 2, how I can separate my whatsapp pictures from CameraRoll album?

1) Well, depends on some people I guess. Some reports better battery life and others. If you wanna jailbreak, you're gonna need to upgrade to 6.1.2.

2) Photoalbums+ allows you to move any pictures out of Camera Roll folders and you can even have private folders with password.

So I decided to update my firmware from 6.0.2 to 6.1.2

After I connect my ip5 to iTunes, it asked for update. Then I select DOWNLOAD only (instead of DOWNLOAD & UPDATE).

What I found the download progress is very slow. After 1 hr, the progress still not reached 50%!!!

Is it my internet is slow (streamyx 1Mbps) or the files are too big.

It took 3 hrs to download the software update to my PC & finally my iphone has been updated at only 10 minutes.

So now I want to jailbreak my iphone 5.

It is advisable to download manually the ip5 6.1.2 ipsw file from reputable website. In my case i download from iclarified. Then use shift+restore method (for windows lah)

1) Can i backup my data (msg, cameraroll, etc) using iTunes?
