QUOTE(danshi @ Sep 11 2009, 06:33 PM)
Yes seanlel, you are right. The club in Curve would be changed to Platinum members only and also they mentioned a few more Platinum clubs is being created.

So far the person told me got towel service and the new club being build beside subang jaya government building would have a swimming pool.

Price for conversion now is one time payment of RM109 and its only valid till 30th November 09. After december it would be manual conversion and that means your monthly installment would be RM225 but those who converted earlier still pay your normal installment fees. emm... wonder their strategy
*
Can someone tell me if I'm reading reading this correctly? So as word on the street goes, that means members can:
a) Not convert the membership at any point and continue to pay their usual monthly fees (at the loss of being able to go to the Curve and any other platinum outlets)
b) Convert the membership before November 30th for RM109 and then pay their usual monthly fees (and have access for ALL FF outlets, assuming they are on a passport membership)
c) Convert the membership after November 30th and pay RM225 each month for access to all FF outlets

If it's anything like c), I'm going to be pretty furious because it essentially means that one will end up paying a fairly large amount for the privilege of going to the SAME branches as before. I guess I'll drop by my local outlet tomorrow to see if there's anything official out about this yet.

Also, I suppose the worst-case scenario would be having to pay RM109 to upgrade to a Platinum membership, and THEN end up paying RM225 per month for what is essentially the same Passport membership as before.

Update: So according to the manager and desk staff, this is what will happen--but it's still incredibly dumb to do this, since in effect it's punishing everyone who's stuck with FF/lives near The Curve. A LOT of members (and staff, for that matter--they'll end up having to deal with all the angry customers) are planning to send in formal complaints to the country manager, for what it's worth.

Uh, where? There isn't any space in the immediate vicinity for a pool. Plus, the entire Curve complex is built on top of underground parking.

You are probably thinking of the One George Street outlet in Singapore, which is the branch with the pool shown by the banners.

I picked up a copy of the Platinum Membership leaflet yesterday and decided to put up the transcription, given that the information isn't available on the website or at all FF branches. Hopefully someone will find this useful! (More realistically: Lots of people going "TL;DR LOL")

We're going Platinum!

Malaysia's first two Platinum Clubs - The Curve and Klang Bukit Tinggi coming soon this December!

Effective 1st December 2009, The Curve and Klang Bukit Tinggi will become Platinum Clubs with benefits coming your way!
- Full executive towel service to all members
- Hot Flow Yoga and fully upgraded RPM studio at The Curve
- Extended range of toiletries
- Access to Fitness First Empire Gallery Platinum (opening March 2010) - The first fitness club in Malaysia with a spectacular infinity-edge swimming pool
- Reciprocal access to all Platinum clubs worldwide
- Upgraded executive members lounge including new internet stations
- Upgraded cardio theater at Klang Bukit Tinggi including all new LCD TVs
- And more to come!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q1:  Will my membership dues increase if I choose to upgrade?
A:  No, for the vast majority of Fitness First's valued members, you will be able to upgrade your membership to full Platinum status with no change to your existing passport dues!

Q2:  OK, sounds good.  How do I upgrade?
A:  All existing passport members may upgrade to Platinum simply by choosing one of the following three upgrade options:
- GOOD option:  Automatic upgrade (no towel service).  Note:  The Curve/Klang Bukit Tinggi members only.
- BETTER option:  Pay one-time conversion fee of RM109 for a full upgrade to Platinum (including towel service)
- BEST option:  Re-commit for 12 months and receive a full upgrade to Platinum (including towel service)
To upgrade, or for more information on the upgrade options and how they relate to you, simply enquire at Reception.

Q3:  By when do I have to upgrade?
A:  You may upgrade your membership by choosing either the BETTER or BEST upgrade options at any time between 1st September and 31st December 2009.  Members of Klang Bukit Tinggi/The Curve who do not choose either the BETTER or BEST options by 1st December will automatically be upgraded via the GOOD option.

Q4:  What if I currently hold a Home membership?
A:  You will need to upgrade your membership free of charge to the current Passport membership rate and then select either the BETTER or BEST upgrade options.  Current Home members of The Curve/Klang Bukit Tinggi will automatically be given 'Home' Platinum status on 1st December 2009, but may also choose to upgrade to full Platinum status as per the above.

Q5:  What if I decide not to upgrade?  How will that affect my membership?
A:  No problems!  Existing passport members will still be allowed access to The Curve and Klang Bukit Tinggi until 31st December 2009.  After that you will still retain full Passport privileges, i.e., access to all Blue clubs worldwide, but will not be able to access the Platinum clubs.

Q5:  What if I hold a corporate membership?
A:  Corporate members wishing to upgrade may choose to do so along the same lines as non-Corporate members, however, minor variations do apply in some cases.  Please see reception for more details.

For Fitness First Platinum, does that mean normal members can't enter that particular gym?

Like I'm just a normal member, and I want to head to FF @ the Curve. Am I allowed in? Or do I have to have a Platinum member card?
*
You need the Platinum card. A Passport membership won't get you into the Curve any more.

I think the Curve outlet is trying to restrict new Platinum members there to ease the congestion problem, so you might be out of luck.

Is it different place, different pricing? sweat.gif

I'm pretty sure the rates are standardized across all the Malaysian FF branches at this point, although how much you pay for admin/sign-up is purely dependent on how good you are at negotiating.

Ex-member of FF @ The Curve. Just wanna say, it's TOO crowded during peak hours. Crowded till basically spend more time waiting than exercising. I guess it happens to most gym as well.

It's gotten a lot better since they've started restricting the Platinum memberships, apparently (but I only go to FF @ The Curve on weekend mornings/afternoons, so I can't say for sure).

Anyone tried the BodyFitness programme recently?

Just went for the first PT session, at IOI. Had this body composition test, which I suspect is really inaccurate.

I need to lose just 2kg of fat to get my optimal body fat composition?

I'm sure alot of girls would disagree. =_=

According to the Tanita scale I'm 45% fat. I'm no Abs McRiperson, but I kind of doubt that I'm carrying around some 100 lbs of fat on my frame.

(What I'm trying to say is, I wouldn't be surprised if the scales were inaccurately calibrated in order to drive their personal training business.)

Guys, any idea if there's a weighing scale at FF that could be used? I need to measure my weight and I do not have a scale at home. I have no idea how to use the shifting scale so would prefer a digital one where I just step on it.
