I'd be fine with 1 focus point, if it works better tongue.gif If they improved the focus point selection I might even make use of the extra ones. I did make extensive use of that with the *istDS, but it is simply too troublesome to switch between focus point selection and white balance etc., or rather I never know which mode I'm in. The *istDS had a Fn button which had to be pressed before setting things such as ISO, white balance, flash mode and self timer/drive mode, and that worked great (without Fn one would select the focusing sensor).

I'm quite happy with the K-5 AF, though it does need to be more precise for the 1.8. Sometimes it's correct, sometimes it isn't (that is... it's completely off).

Image quality... anything to improve with the K-5? Seems fine to me...

Improved video functions would be appreciated... one would have imagined it was hard to get a step down from the K-5, but they managed to do just that with the K-30, making it rather rubbish.

For fellow Pentaxian who is looking to grab the K-5 IIs, I think the KLPF is giving a good deal for it. Its going for RM 3,195.00 body only. But you will have to purchase a magazine that is RM 10.00.

Cheers.......

Yup. Been there yesterday afternoon. They have the new Q7 with hundreds of colors combination. Darn cute those buggers especially the lenses. All of the new Pentax camera is there except for the 645D.

They have the K-5IIs there for testing. A bunch of new HD lenses which if am not too interested. What i'm interested is the DA primes are now 30% off from dealer price. Very tempting. Can still grab the 50 1.8 for RM499.00. But you have to purchase the RM10.00 magazine from DSC booth in order to qualify for the discounts.

The K-3 is some how disappointing. Image doesn't have the "wow" effect like you get from the K5 years ago. But according to Jacob from DSC, is still a demo version with the 0.35 firmware. Can't really feel the speed from the new AF system. But we still can't judge it now. Will need to wait for the real production camera and updated firmware 1.0 to really judge it.

But I's glad that DSC's representatives are all very knowledgeable. Unlike others. They really know their Pentax.

Hm, as for image quality... I think we have reached a level where it is hard to wow anyone anymore. I've had the chance to play an hour or so with a Fuji X-Pro1 (couldn't go out to shoot, as it was in a shop...), and damn did I have a blast! That thing is just fun to use. The hybrid viewfinder, the way it feels, it clicks, the 35mm lens, ... the photos themselves are ok, I could have done the same with my K-5, and the AF is a bit too slow for street photography (which is where this camera would shine), and the focusing ring is electronic only, doesn't feel as connected and smooth as my manual lenses or even the DA 50 1.8, but... so much fun. I have never enjoyed a camera this much, not even my K-5. The camera felt very natural to me, even though I have never used it before (or even looked at it closely).

The Fuji rep was also very friendly and knowledgable (Funan Digital Mall in Singapore, they have all their higher end gear displayed there, can't purchase though).

So basically what I want to say is: Unless you are a pro and need to get perfect shots every time (and I've seen enough out of focus photos by pros that they still ended up using, so...) what matters more (to me) is enjoying the camera, and enabling you to get the shots you want without having to go through ridiculous hoops (some mirrorless cameras are especially cringeworthy in their effort to make them simple to use... making them ridiculously hard to use as soon as you want to have even a little control).

@flamephotography: Is it an upgrade over the K-5 in terms of image quality? Or a step down? I can't say that there is anything I'd complain over with the K-5, except for focusing accuracy with the 50mm.

Yes bro kadajawi.

For the hard wares and video features, is a major upgrade. But for the end result of the image quality, I still doubt. Things like the high ISO noise performance, the DR, the AF the metering system and the IQ. I still doubt.

The feel is there. A bit heavier maybe because of the lens. More buttons and looks more pro. The grip and the feel is very similar to the K-5.

Cheers bro....... icon_rolleyes.gif

Yup. It doesn't look promising even at 100%. The K5 IIs still looks sharper. Still waiting for Dpreview's test result with the actual camera with updated firmware.

Cheers bro kadajawi..... icon_rolleyes.gif

If that is images coming from K-3, then upgrading from K-5 would just be a minor upgrade.

i think what they focus more on K-3 would be its video functions, with more dedicated video functions.in terms of video functions, i figure it would be much better than its predecessor.

No MJPEG is a big letdown though. While h264 CAN achieve great quality with low bitrates, to do so it requires ridiculous amounts of processing power (I'm getting around 0.6 fps with 1080/25p video from the K-5, and that is running on a 4.5 GHz Intel i5. The slightly denoised files look as good if not better as the original files, at 2-8 Mbps, down from 60). The implementation integrated into DSLRs is usually nowhere near as sophisticated as that, it is rudimentary at best (even on higher end video cameras it is so-so only). It doesn't make use of all the high end features h264 offers to reduce file size. And usually camera makers are way too agressive with their bitrate. For example the K-30's video files IIRC had visible artifacting at highest setting, it would have required higher bitrates (pushing it close to the K-5 at the 2 star setting... which simply looks better). 2 stars is 60 Mbps, a friend is shooting his GF3 at 50 Mbps (h264) to be satisfied (though that is probably overkill, 40 should be ok depending on the implementation).

Now... having h264 is great. Sometimes you don't want to get the best quality there is, sometimes you just need the space and smaller files. But I'd like to keep the option of shooting MJPEG when I want to.
