using Olympus E-P3..upgrading to E-M1 soon once money drop from sky laugh.gif
I quit using bigger body camera - DSLR due to weight concerned smile.gif
But if want me rate, I love what K-3 offered. High burst rate, rugged body, shutter speed 1/8000s, switchable AA filter and dual SD slot. K-3 can be good competitors for Nikon D7100 laugh.gif Never handle Nikon D7100 personally but so far I am confidently say K-3 has a very solid body built.

Not sure how good lenses offer by Pentax though if to compare with Nikon or Canon.

Do you guys this RM4199 for body only is reasonable? Some my friends said is expensive and only fans will buy.

The D7100 is good, but it is massive and heavy. The K-5 is a much smaller, lighter body. It's no mFT, but it's the second best thing, among the more professional bodies. It's a 70D/7D trapped in the body of a 700D/1100D laugh.gif (without the poor build quality).

Typically Pentax will lower the price after a few months, and lower it, and lower it... I wouldn't buy it right now. Wait a bit. biggrin.gif

I managed to fix my 18-55 by pulling paper through the gap between the focusing ring and the zoom ring. laugh.gif rclxm9.gif

Pentax lenses are good, though a bit more focused on primes, and on APS-C. Something like a 70-200 2.8 is missing, but at least you've got the built in stabilizer so you don't need to buy lenses with IS. And if you like to use vintage glass... Pentax is quite nice. biggrin.gif All lenses are stabilized.

Ya saw them displayed alot prime lens in the test unit laugh.gif 14mm, 35mm, 77mm and etc I can't remember much.
I brought along my m42 lens to test but they dun have the adapter to mount. too bad

Mh. While I sometimes think the K-5 COULD be slightly bigger to fit my hands even more comfortably, I think they have done a great job with button placement (much better than Canon, and better than Nikon) and it pretty much feels right. The D7100 fits slightly better, but is so heavy that after a minute or so in a shop I just feel fatigued. I don't with the K-5 (though after a while I do think the K-5 would be better if it were a bit lighter). With the DA 50 1.8 it's perfect though.

The K-3 is, AFAIK, slightly bigger than the K-5. Slightly. And if you want a bigger camera there is always the battery grip waiting for you. smile.gif

To be honest though... the _perfect_ camera in terms of grip and everything (except for image quality, video quality etc.) is the X1Pro from Fuji. At least for me. That thing was a joy to try out... absolutely wonderful. Loved it.

Ps: Do try Sony's DSLTs... they are pretty nice to use too. IMHO I'd say Fuji > Pentax > Sony > Nikon > Canon. Olympus and Panasonic are too much all over the place, a GF3 isn't fun at all, but a GH3 probably is.

Pentaxforums has posted a review of the K-3.
http://www.pentaxforums.com/reviews/pentax...troduction.html

The video section (I skipped the rest for now) completely killed the camera for me. There is no way I'm going to buy a K-3. I'll stick with the K-5 until it dies. And then I'll buy another K-5. Or switch brands (Olympus, strangely enough, seems to get it right, while Panasonic messed up too). Unless Ricoh/Pentax start listening to their users and stop downgrading their cameras...

As much as i love what K-3 offered, I still love my micro43 system. Smaller body, lighter weight and also smaller lens. I tried X Pro 1 before but dislike the auto focus speed laugh.gif been pampered by Olympus AF speed haha and AF speed has become one of the main factor for me in getting a new camera. Plus, I have confident on Olympus JPEG output ,sorry if i sound abit fansboy notworthy.gif

Wouldn't mind to try Pentax also if given chance. Heard it has the most natural color for human skin tone.

I tried Sony DSLT before as well, still a DSLR sized for me. I reviewed NEX-5T as well recently courtesy of Sony but somehow the AF speed still no where near my Olympus E-P3 (again, I am pampered).

BTW I think Sony NEX system is over the place more than panasonic and olympus laugh.gif Sure got people come and told me "Why spend same amount of money on olympus/panasonic but not Sony? coz Sony got flip screen, APS C sensor!" LOL icon_rolleyes.gif

Haha, I don't have any confidence in any JPEG output at all. For all I care they could remove the ability to write JPEG. I wouldn't mind. I liked the Sigma SD10 a lot... that camera couldn't save JPEG files laugh.gif

The DSLT are still a bit smaller and lighter IMHO. I like their usability... it isn't too bad, and the AF system is pretty sweet (especially during video). Not sure though if I could live with LiveView ONLY. Probably makes pulling along with the motiv hard. On the other hand these cameras are rather quiet...

NEX I don't care much about... too consumer in terms of usage.

What I meant about all over the place is in terms of usage. The GF series is horrible IMHO, but the GH series is good. They are very different cameras. If you know how to use a small Canon though you (mostly) can use a big one (within their DSLR line), same with Nikon, Pentax etc.

haha i shoot raw for special occasion only but I am just too lazy to edit pics. Most my photos in my blog is SOOC or maybe just some minor level adjustment.

yea SLT smaller but still, not as small as mirrorless overall (the lens, the body size). and I dislike Sony JPEG output color. For panasonic, yes GH is awesome for video and GF should be for casual user (or maybe target lady since the design is cute). However the new Panasonic GX7 is fantastic biggrin.gif

IMHO, I wouldn't mind handling canon (Not EOS M), nikon, olympus and panasonic camera. Pentax havent try before but hopefully the PR can spare me a review unit laugh.gif I will avoid Samsung and Sony mirrorless.

my last buy was the K5, and at that time i bought it as a pre order. i was one of the first in Malaysia who used K5. But at time, because I used K10, so the urge to upgrade was huge because the improvement was huge too. But now, seeing that there is no huge improvement, maybe i will wait for k3s or something like that. or a full frame icon_idea.gif

Hm... nah. Even if I don't edit the pics (I always to a bit though) I use RAW. Saves me a ton of time, cause I never bother with white balance on the go (which has screwed me up often when shooting video... I need RAW videos laugh.gif ), and so I can quickly adjust everything. I use Lightroom for everything, including my cellphone photos. Editing hundreds of photos and exporting them into whatever quality I want, perhaps with watermark takes a couple of minutes. With Photoshop I'd be busy for the next few days laugh.gif

The GX7 has an sensor based stabilizer, right? But they don't use it for video? Got bashed for that too. I wonder when camera makers will learn that they should at least give us the option to chose between electronic and sensor based stabilization.

I've tried several Canons, and to be honest I'd rather have herpes. The ones where the size and weight is right feel like toys, and make little sense to me in terms of usability, the bigger ones that do make a tiny bit of sense (not much though) and feel solid enough are so heavy and bulky that I'd leave it at home all the time and use my mobile phone instead. Tried a 5D Mk III for a few minutes, then gave up with a hurting arm/hand. They should include a 1 year membership at the gym in the price of that camera...

I was scared that I'd want the K-3, but... the video functions really killed it for me. Not interested at all.

Ps: Some of my favorite photos were taken with the *istDS... the gear doesn't really matter. laugh.gif
