There's no special technique to first charge your phone, as stated in the manual, just charge normally and use normally. Battery life would increase gradually after a few charge cycles, mine showed obvious improvement after like 3-4 days of usage. The rest would be the usual stuff like disabling background apps, disable NFC, Bluetooth when not using. Have fun =).

Well, depends on what you use. Look at the collection of Essential apps on market. I personally do not use much apps, not even Facebook or Whatsapp. I use WeChat, Skype, Baconit for reddit. For twitter and fb purposes, just use the People hub.

Its impossible getting 1-2 days of usage unless you do not ever do anything on your phone.

I had 3 different separate Lumia 920s and I can attest to it that they do not last so long.

I uninstalled everything and just put on Whatsapp and it drains the battery like crazy. Microsoft's own Skype drains the battery like crazy on its own as well. Same goes to WeChat or any social application.

Social Applications -

I tested it again:
- Continuous usage of Whatsapp alone lasts me < 3 hours
- Continuous usage of WeChat alone lasts me < 2 hours
- Continuous usage of Skype alone lasts me < 3 hours

The stupid thing is that all these are supposed to be normal applications for a Smartphone yet the phone, well, can't use them well.

Playing Guns 4 Hire, Dredd vs Zombies or even Robotek and your drains like water. This is without any applications active.

I don't use the usb charger as it will charge very slowly. I use the normal AC powered charger.

Hmmm... not sure why. I made few call, wechat & whatsapp, reply few emails, surf half hour internet. After 12 hours++, I still have 74% now. But I set to 2G + WIFI only. I switch to 3G when WIFI is not available. Perhaps the signal strength is your area is not so good ?

When I play game, the battery drain quite fast. I think it drop 7% when I play game for half an hour.

Yesterday I full charged on 2.00 am,
10-15 whatsapp msg, 2-3 calls (around 5 minutes), facebook, surfing for about 20 minutes..this morning 10am still got about 30%, means my battery last for 1 days 8 hours.

For me:

8am full charge. 9pm - 25% left.

4 hours music at volume 23/30 over my big full ear Sennheiser headphones (34ohm impedance); took 10 photos; wifi 3 hours - only browsing web and FB, no video stream; 2 calls; 20 sms. Background tasks quite a few - low powered ones, like photo album is not closed, Office left open. etc. Note that I dont use whatsapp and skype.

And, regarding games, i play Sonic CD for half an hour, battery drop only 8-9%, but if i play high graphic XBox games like crimson dragon and mirror's edge, for half an hour battery can drop double - 16%. Depends on the graphics i think.
