Yup, the problem of current Z series Z400/500 is the maintenance laugh.gif
Otherwise, for normal buyers who don't know better, its look is very apealing laugh.gif

Not that bad lah, 3 cells but rated at 50WHr. Review feedback in China seems pretty good. Have 2 internal fans, but only 1 RAM slot. I just wish it come with matte screen instead of glossy rolleyes.gif

Best bang for your buck if you are looking for 15" gaming laptop. Later on when you have more budget, buy an ultrabay GT750M and go SLI laugh.gif

what about y580? smile.gif apparently i saw some reviews on the y400 and y500, many ppl recommended y580 instead because of the GTX 660M thing. what does that have to do with it? yawn.gif many have said that its more worth it to buy due to that gtx 660M which will be good for games in the future, probably 1 year from now?
*
Y580 is old model. Y500 is new model.
Y500 latest spec come with GT750M (latest gen GPU from Nvidia), which is ~ 10% better than GTX660M (Nvidia GPU line-up from last year), according to some benchmark.

btw got any similar laptop for
Lenovo Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

with similar spec and price but want 15.6 inch ??

the similar I found is Lenovo Ideapad Z580, i7-3612QM + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), freeDOS, white

but the processor and graphic card on Y400 is it just slightly better than Z580 ??
IMO prefer 15.6 inch LOL

will definitely try to abuse the hinge when I get my hands on a display unit laugh.gif
But so far this is the best hinge design (on paper at least, and if it really can stand the abuse) that I've seen, better than the XPS 12 or the Sony Viao or the Lenovo Twist. And the fact that Acer feel confident to put it with a much heavier 15" screen hmm.gif

I'll keep an open mind on the touchpad for now biggrin.gif
The main advantages of the touchpad placement are these, I think hmm.gif
1. palm no longer has to rest on the palm rest area (which usually are a bit warm (personally I just find it uncomfortable).
2. the screen could be moved a lot closer to the user. No longer need to extend the arm across. Really help the utilisation of touch screen.
3. On W8 desktop mode, could push the screen back to "normal" position, and make touchpad available. I will try it out later and see if using the touchpad will make me accidentally press any button on the keyboard tongue.gif But I think sliding the hand up to use the touchpad actually is quite inutitive than cramping the hand down (always found touchpad annoying anyway, I'm a trackpoint user laugh.gif)

Will go look for it and test it out next Friday (this Friday is public holiday, not going into town to work rclxms.gif )
