This one:
Lenovo
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD

Most powerful 14" you can get for your budget. Negotiate, can get it ~ RM25xx.
Save your RM350, and use it to upgrade warranty to 3 years on site (still has spare change smile.gif )
Later, when you save a bit more (~ RM600), you can buy a ultrabay GT650M and slot it in, run 2 GT650M in SLI mode (performance ~ GTX670MX level) to play your GTA 5 (SLI support GTA 4, so support for GTA 5 should be forthcoming)  laugh.gif
Wait a few more years, SSD should come way down in price/capacity. Upgrade and get a new lease of life.

How's that for a 5 year ownership plan?  laugh.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

seems great.but i think i should wait a bit so the price will be reduced a bit la.but hopefully the price won't increased over time, just like what happened to acer

Sifus i need a final help from you guys as i finish marking down the laptops i would ask for help.
UX31A with touchscreen by Asus or Yoga 13 by Lenovo?
I will need it for school work which means i will be carrying it around. I got a few questions to ask. Will Full HD and HD+ in 13inch screen be noticable and is there a big difference? And is there anything bad about this particular model? Thanks for the help and happy CNY!

Don't need to apologise lah tongue.gif I am just teasing biggrin.gif

Intel basically say once Haswell (new Intel CPU) come out this year, all ultrabook must has touch screen  thumbup.gif
So you will probably see a lot more touch screen laptop going forward (around end of 2013 onwards).

As I said, with your budget (I assume it's ~ RM2.5k), if you want touch screen, right now only Z400, Z500, M5 are available in Malaysia.
If you don't need touch screen, for gaming, best is Y400.

Personally, I think touch screen work best in hybrid laptop (those that can convert to tablet mode 1 way or another).
Otherwise, I see 2 issues:
1. Poking across keyboard is not ergonomic smile.gif
2. The hinge holding the screen and base together, if subject to too much poking poking, may loosen  sweat.gif

ur think i same like me. but my concerns about touch screen is because of window 8 n office 2013 are more into touch.. im most like y400 due to reason of window 8, im still thinking.. any spec that similar with y400 but touch screen. if y500 with touch screen spec, i really will take that.. my budget it must worthy with the spec.

As I said, nothing like Y400 / 500 specs, within your budget, has touch screen. In fact, no gaming laptop has touch screen yet.
W8 is perfectly usable without touchscreen smile.gif

Hello pros, i need help:

1. Preferred Brand
Doesn't matter as long as it's known for well build and have good service center

2. Budget
Max RM 1500 (if it's impossible for this budget just state the nearest to my budget i'll consider smile.gif )

3. Usage
- Work (C++, Microsoft Office, Light Photoshop-ing)
- Main use for online, movie, music

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
- 14" and below, i prefer it to be lightweight and thin if possible
- Good viewing angle and screen quality if possible, resolution doesn't matter
- Black in color (matte preferably), doesn't like glossy
- Battery MUST be able to take out (i had issues with built in battery)

Currently using Acer 4830TG, its a great laptop, BUT i have issues with the built in battery, its annoying when u can't take out the battery when gaming etc thus it affects the battery and now i have to change mine because it's already wear out. I'm planning to sell this laptop and get a new one to suits my usage as for me this laptop is a bit over the top (since i have stopped gaming recently so i think i don't need this kinda spec anymore, beside the annoying battery thingy). Looking forward for suggestions from all the pros. Thanks! notworthy.gif

IdeaPad Yoga 13, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3399, 4GB, 2 years; colors: grey/orange
UX31A-C4032H, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920 x 1080;touch)@3799[1.3kg], 4GB, W8

Personally, I find FHD in the UX31A 13" make things a bit too small (but I am getting old). This is actually very subjective, and you should look at the actual unit for both models to decide which screen is better in your eyes.
UX31A, without touchscreen, has very nice matte IPS screen. But for the model with touchscreen, I find the colour, brightness is worse than the model without touchscreen, and it come in glossy (I mean it is still pretty good, but worse than the model without touchscreen).

For Yoga 13, why don't you check it out with actual owner here smile.gif
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2698544

I just find it is easier to use the touch screen with Yoga 13 design (flip to tablet mode).

You want lightweight and thin. That mean ultrabook-ish. This don't come cheap.
And then you want matte screen with good viewing angle, which rule out most of the consumer laptop laugh.gif
And you don't want built in battery, which rule out most of the 13" ultrabook laugh.gif
There are laptops that fit your requirement, just out of your budget sweat.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Dell 13"
Latitude E6330, i5-3320M + Intel HD4000@RM4380[1.65kg], W7P (32-bit), 3 years Pro support; [CPU options: i5-3320M-i7-3520M] (matte TN screen, otherwise satisfy all your other requirement)
14"
Vostro 3460, i5-3210M + Intel HD4000@RM2199[2.23kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HB; colors: red/silver/bronze (not thin & light. Have matte screen (one of the cheapest matte screen laptop) but TN, and detachable battery)
Latitude E6430s, i5-3360M + Intel HD4000@RM4300, 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7P (32-bit)/W8 Pro, 3-cell; [CPU options: i5-3360M-i7-3520M], HD+ screen upgradable (upgrade to the HD+ screen which has good viewing angle. Only laptop that I can think off that tick all the box)
Latitude E6430u, i5-3427U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM4500, 4GB, W8Pro, 3 years Pro support; [CPU options: i5-3427U - i7-3667U] (matte TN screen, otherwise satisfy all your other requirement)

HP 14"
Folio 9470M, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(7200rpm)@RM3499, 4GB, anti-glare, W7P; W8@RM3699 (matte TN screen)

Lenovo 14"
ThinkPad Edge E430, i5-3210M + Intel HD4000@RM2749[2.2kg], W7P, 4GB, 750GB (5400rpm), anti-glare (not thin and light, matte TN screen)
ThinkPad T430U, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT620M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM3799, 4GB, W7P, 3 years on-site warranty (matte TN screen)

Since you are not using the notebook for very intensive tasks, an ultrabook would fit just nice nod.gif
Can consider this:
14"
Lenovo [Ultrabook]S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1999[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; AMD HD7450M/W8@RM2199

Use the remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years and you're good to go~

hi bro nexus2238 and PF T.J., i've finally narrowed down my option for my ultrabook.
previously u guys propose for HP eny for a lightweight ultrabook but it doesn't have backlit keyboard.
but now if i am looking for those two below, which one is better choice?
i m looking for ultrabook that must have backlit keyboard and fast boot smile.gif

1. Asus Zenbook UX32VD
2. Acer Aspire S7

the Acer S7 is really make me tempting due to its touchable screen tongue.gif
but the Asus Design is also worth to be consider rclxms.gif

Dell XPS 12 is too thick for me. At least, i prefer HP envy design coz not so bulky.
Zenbook UX31A is using Intel Graphic rite?

It should be worth it laugh.gif
Yeah, most ultrabooks are powered by integrated GPUs, or lower-end dedicated GPUs laugh.gif
For HP, can consider this one as well:
13"
HP [Ultrabook] Envy SpectreXT 13-2106TU, i7-3517U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3399[1.39kg], 4GB, W8,backlit keyboard

Seemed pretty decently-speced for a RM3.4k ultrabook brows.gif
