hi bro nexus2238 and PF T.J., i've finally narrowed down my option for my ultrabook.
previously u guys propose for HP eny for a lightweight ultrabook but it doesn't have backlit keyboard.
but now if i am looking for those two below, which one is better choice?
i m looking for ultrabook that must have backlit keyboard and fast boot smile.gif

1. Asus Zenbook UX32VD
2. Acer Aspire S7

the Acer S7 is really make me tempting due to its touchable screen tongue.gif
but the Asus Design is also worth to be consider  rclxms.gif

Seems like you have greatly increased your budget? laugh.gif
Considered the Dell XPS 12/ 13 (FullHD), ZenBook UX31A, Ideapad Yoga 13, Samsung Smart PC Pro? brows.gif

QUOTE(suadrif @ Feb 9 2013, 11:27 AM)
Hahaha.
yup, i increase budget for great satisfaction. hopefully its worth tongue.gif
Dell XPS 12 is too thick for me. At least, i prefer HP envy design coz not so bulky.
Zenbook UX31A is using Intel Graphic rite?
*
QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Feb 9 2013, 11:31 AM)
It should be worth it laugh.gif
Yeah, most ultrabooks are powered by integrated GPUs, or lower-end dedicated GPUs laugh.gif
For HP, can consider this one as well:
13"
HP [Ultrabook] Envy SpectreXT 13-2106TU, i7-3517U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3399[1.39kg], 4GB, W8,backlit keyboard

Seemed pretty decently-speced for a RM3.4k ultrabook brows.gif
*
If you like touchscreen and like the Zenbook, you can consider this as well:
UX31A-C4032H, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920 x 1080;touch)@3799[1.3kg], 4GB, W8

Wao! thanks bro for the suggestion, ok how bout remove the good viewing angle? i dun mind if its not thin but i don't want it be too bulky. Yeap i guess ultrabook does suits my needs, but most of it comes with internal battery, am i right?

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Feb 9 2013, 10:20 AM)
Most ultrabooks do not have removable batteries unfortunately sad.gif
*
Those suggestion that I mentioned previously with TN screen has the typically not so good viewing angle. For good viewing angle, you usually need to look for IPS panel, which is not common in laptop (I think less than 20 models in Malaysia, and some of these have glossy screen) tongue.gif
Yup, most 13" laptop come with internal battery. And most ultrabook (13", 14") is the same as well.
But since you don't game anymore, internal battery should not be such a major concern right? smile.gif

If you can look past internal battery, and good viewing angle, but still want light weight and matte screen, this one is the cheapest, iinm:
Dell 13"
Vostro 3360, i3-2365M + Intel HD3000@RM1859[1.67kg], 4GB, 320GB(5400rpm), W7HB; colors: red/silver/bronze
Vostro 3360, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM2009[1.67kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB; colors: red/silver/bronze
Vostro 3360, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000 + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm) HDD@RM2199[1.67kg], 4GB, W7HB; colors: red/silver/bronze
Vostro 3360, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000@RM2249[1.67kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB; colors: red/silver/bronze

ps: looking back at your 1st post, I may have misunderstood you. When you said matte, do you mean you want the surface of the laptop has matte surface, or you want the screen of the laptop to be matte (don't reflect background light)?

Gonna be doing some writing, so I think I need 15.6" screen . Been looking at dell Inspiron 15, or the asus a55vd. Anyone have any issues with dell lately? How is their customer service if anything goes wrong? Asus service is in lowyat and I live in kl but it is still a pain to go there.

Dell's onsite warranty (if covered), is one of the best in Malaysia, whereas Asus's (carry-in) warranty service is one of the worst rclxub.gif
For Dell units, when you have something wrong with your notebook, you just give the technicians a call, after remote diagnosis, (and if needed), will dispatch a technician to your place within 2-3 business days and fix the notebook on-site for you~ Much, much faster than the normal carry-in warranty offered by other brands

Hi guys smile.gif

Please suggest me an ultrabook with these requirements:

1. Brand - Flexible ( hopefully with good customer and warranty service )
2. Budget - RM3.5k to RM3.7k
3. Usage - Microsoft Office, surfing web, watching movies, listening to music
4. Screen size - 13''

However, my priority is portability and lightweight. Backlight keyboard is a plus for me.
Windows 7 or Windows 8, no problem with me. And equipped with SSD biggrin.gif
I have my external, so all my files go there, no need for large capacity of HDD.

Found this Toshiba Portege Z930, any comment on this one?

Since you mentioned good warranty service, then these:

Dell
XPS13, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3399[1.36kg], 4GB, W8, backlit
XPS12, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080;touch)@RM3999[1.54kg], 8GB, W8, backlit, spill resistant keyboard, build-in battery, no ODD

Extend warranty to 3 years. Price is RSP, negotiable (even when you buy from Dell Online, just online chat). It's within your budget smile.gif

Hello pros, i need help:

1. Preferred Brand
Doesn't matter as long as it's known for well build and have good service center

2. Budget
Max RM 1500 (if it's impossible for this budget just state the nearest to my budget i'll consider smile.gif )

3. Usage
- Work (C++, Microsoft Office, Light Photoshop-ing)
- Main use for online, movie, music

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
- 14" and below, i prefer it to be lightweight and thin if possible
- Good viewing angle and screen quality if possible, resolution doesn't matter
- Black in color (matte preferably), doesn't like glossy
- Battery MUST be able to take out (i had issues with built in battery)

Currently using Acer 4830TG, its a great laptop, BUT i have issues with the built in battery, its annoying when u can't take out the battery when gaming etc thus it affects the battery and now i have to change mine because it's already wear out. I'm planning to sell this laptop and get a new one to suits my usage as for me this laptop is a bit over the top (since i have stopped gaming recently so i think i don't need this kinda spec anymore, beside the annoying battery thingy). Looking forward for suggestions from all the pros. Thanks!  notworthy.gif

Matte black colour laptop shell? All consumer class ultrabook are out laugh.gif (except gaming laptop like Asus G series, Clevo, I can't remember if any consumer laptop is still matte black in colour. But these are heavy beast).

As for Thinkpad, the cheapest Edge series somehow don't have matte shell smile.gif I could only think of the T430u as ultrabook with matte black shell sweat.gif

Sorry, other sifus please help notworthy.gif

the alternative solution is ask the buyer to top up the budget and get business laptop OR remove the ultrabook cover and paint it matte black and get a matte screen protector for the specified laptop. the buyer requests are puzzling me. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

Hey guys im coming back home from overseas and I need to buy a laptop in KL coz i prefer the prices and diversity here..
So..

1. Preferred Brand = ASUS / DELL / SONY

2. Budget RM2500-RM3000

3. Usage - High-end games/so all games can at least run on highest resolution and HIGH settings
- video encoding, example; converting huge bluray files into small brrip mkv files with x264 10bit

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
either 14 inch or better 15inch will do.

PS = > additionally it would be cool if the vents for heat release are on ideal sides
> hd at least 1 tb
>bluray/dvd disk drive must be able to eject(not the type of laptop which have a slot to insert the cd"
> can the bluray drive play dvd discs as well? im not too sure on this

with that budget, you have to top up at least RM700 to get your desired laptop. blu-ray drives aint cheap nowadays cuz it takes a longer time for price drop. if you dont mind about budget top up, i can suggest you some models with blu-ray ODD and 1TB HDD.

ASUS N56VZ-S4284H, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3699[2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 1TB, W8; color: black
Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3499[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(7200rpm), W7HP, backlit keyboard, 2 years international warranty

as for dell and sony, i dont know if there are any models that comes with blu-ray drives. even if they do come with, they will be overpriced. also, try negotiate with the seller for RM300 drop (if possible).

FYI, blu-ray drives can play DVDs as well.

sounds like i misunderstood. blush.gif if you omit blu-ray options, then i would suggest:

Dell Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2799[2.38kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional
Dell Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M@RM2799, 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional, W8
Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty
Lenovo Ideapad Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD
ASUS N56VZ-S3151H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799[2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 750GB, W8; color: black

FYI, all these above are 1366x768 resolution except the Y580. as for blu-ray drives, they wont spoil easily if you play but if you do constant burning non-stop, it will.
