hey, uhm Wow. so many information loaded  shocking.gif
can i ask if the difference between v5 and v3 is just the weight and the screen resolution? bcz i think the v5 resolution and weight is decent enough for me. the rest of the features are all about the same right?

my mean of design is to be stylish, want it to look like Macbook Pro haha! so, thats why i would like the laptop's screen border to be black and the keyboard border to be white/silky silver(JUST LIKE macbook pro) and the pad to be black. Any model resembles those?  sweat.gif Kinda hope acer v5 has all these color features!

RAM 4G should be enough for me. i dont need touch screen.

im battling between acer and asus because some frens been telling me tht asus is quite unstable in terms of performance :/ Do you heard any bad reviews about S56c, v3 and v5? Do help me minimize my choice more! hehe thanks

V5-571G-53314G50, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT620M@RM2199[2.3kg], 4GB, 500GB, W7HP
V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8

These two are not similar at all laugh.gif The V3 has a CPU that is at least 40% more powerful, GPU that is 30-40% more powerful, and a screen that is leaps and bounds better (please go out to see it to appreciate it).

The most impressive thing about MBP is the Retina Display laugh.gif That is the part that users are going to stare at all day, not the shell laugh.gif Look at the IPS screen of the V3 mentioned above.

Want nice aesthetics (quite subjective though)? Go out and look at Asus. But considered yourself warned about the iffy warranty support service by Asus Malaysia sweat.gif

Read comments on this old thread (this model was quite hot back then smile.gif )
Bear in mind the lavish praise showered was based on the fire power standard then (things has changed a bit smile.gif ), and also the specs may not be exactly the same as well.

If the specs listed on the link that you provided is true, then it should be sufficient for your usage.
If the GPU is indeed GT635M, then it should be fine.

For Dota2?

The i7 CPU is way too powerful for your need. i5 is more than sufficient.
The GPU is GT635M, sufficient to play Dota2. But not high end in any mean.
The screen is only HD (1366x768). If you are only looking at HD screen, no point getting 15", a 14" will do.

If you only want HP, can consider these 14". More balanced, and most probably cheaper as well smile.gif

It's the "luck" part that concerns me haha.
Mainly AC...I don't really have time to game =/

I'm trying to avoid Asus simply because I'm sick of their after-sales service, so if there are better options out there, I'd definitely prefer them to Asus. I heard Lenovo's pretty durable - can anyone back that up? And how's aftersales?
Dell's prices are rather reasonable, but I've friends saying they overheat...is that still true?
*
If you want good after sales service, then Dell is best in Malaysia. Extend warranty to 3 years, no worries even if your hardware ever has problem during warranty period smile.gif The 14R SE is pretty ok heat wise. (For any laptop, if you game, please provide good external cooling like cooling pad or table fan).

Lenovo standard warranty for those 2 models are 2 year International, but need to send to SC. If you send to SC run by IBM, then the service is good. For those 2 models, you could actually opt to upgrade warranty to 3 years on site for RM250+, but you have to specifically ask for it, and some re-sellers don't even know Lenovo Malaysia offer this type of warranty upgrade laugh.gif

Hi, can i have some tips on selecting an ultrabook.

Budget: 2k-3k
Screen: 14''
Brand: no preference
Design: preferably sleek and thin
Purpose: mainly for working and surfing, very little gaming
Speed: fast booting and turning on
Memory: we can upgrade it immediately upon purchase if the default memory is less than expected? (sorry for the noob question)
*
All ultrabook are sleek and thin laugh.gif
If you want fast booting and turning on, you need to look for models that come with full SSD (those models with mSATA SSD + SATA HDD will probably disappoint you smile.gif
In order for owners to be able to upgrade RAM, there must be accessible / available RAM slot in the laptop. Some very sleek and thin ultrabook don't have RAM slot at all as RAM are fused / soldered onto the board.

Acer
M5-481TG-53316G12, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT640M LE (28nm Kepler) + 128GB SSD@RM2899[1.85kg], 6GB, W7HP

Asus
K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD

Dell
Inspiron 14z, i5-3337U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2549[1.87kg], 4GB, W8 *no VGA port, OD

HP
Envy4-1238TX, i5-3337U + AMD HD8750M@RM2099[Beats][1.75kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo
S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1999[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; AMD HD7450M/W8@RM2199

Samsung
NP530U4C, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT620M + 24GB mSATA + 1TB HDD@RM2999, 6GB, W7HP

Sony
Vaio SVE14115CV, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2899[1.92kg], 4GB, W8; color: silver; Vaio carry case

Toshiba
Satellite U940-1001X, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + 32GB mSATA + 640GB HDD@RM2699[1.7kg], 4GB, W8, backlit keyboard

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
For model that don't come with full SSD as standard, you should / could upgrade the HDD to SSD after market (arrange with re-seller). Usually it will not void laptop hardware warranty. SSD is still expensive, 128G ~ RM300+/-, 256G ~ RM600+/-.
So model like the Envy 4 above is ideal choice. Swap in a 256G SSD, and it is still well within your budget.

btw, i've checked out lenovo z500. i wanna ask, do u do shipping to UK? and how much wil the shipping fee be if so? and if i wanna upgrade the i5 to i7, how much wil the upgrade fee cost me?

Wonder if z500 has the exact color like the image attached? ahha thanks.
And what about lenovo u410(i noe it's 14inch) and u510? price and ur review about it smile.gif
*
Need to clarify. This is not a sales thread laugh.gif
Most of the sifus in this thread are not re-sellers smile.gif

On the Z500. You are in UK? Even though laptop in UK is slightly more expensive than Malaysia (due to GST mainly ... ), shipping charge from Malaysia to UK will probably wipe out any saving you could get (unless you are looking at really high end expensive models) smile.gif
Also Lenovo Malaysia don't offer customisation service. Resellers normally will not offer to upgrade the CPU for you after market since it most probably will void hardware warranty from Lenovo.
Yes, the Z500 has that colour.

Lenovo Malaysia only release U310 & U410. The current gen of U series was plagued by wifi connection issues in the early batches (it is a global phenomena), and mainly due to that confidence in current U series is rather lackluster (even though the issues are reportedly fixed in later units released by Lenovo tongue.gif )

If you are in UK, then forget what I mentioned about Asus Malaysia warranty support service. It is a curse only applicable to Malaysia laugh.gif

But the idea is if for RM200+ more you could get a CPU that is 40% more powerful, and GPU that is at least 15% more powerful, then why not? smile.gif Also the Y400 has better thermal cooling design, and red backlit (look like a gaming rig smile.gif )

Inspiron 14 (3420), i3-3110M + Nvidia GT625M@RM1599[2.1kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8
The best Dell you can afford. GPU is slightly weaker, but can still handle Dota2. Come with OS.
Dell 3 years on site warranty (for Inspiron 14) could take up ~ 15% of your budget tongue.gif
Lenovo warranty is not bad. If you have any hardware issue (touch wood touch wood), send to SC run by IBM, much better services smile.gif
