i have got no fishing rods or anything, sad.gif but can we rent such stuffs or so?
*
can rent at the fishing place but i suggest you buy your own
because the condition of the rent fishing gear is abit run down

and

for a beginner set should cost around rm100-200
if you want i can bring point you where to buy at PJ

QUOTE(faujc99 @ Apr 28 2013, 11:38 AM)
i wanna add ryobi in the range, my gf recently bought ryobi krieger, light and smooth, i find it slightly better than arctica

day trip or night trip?
if its day trip, over there in sasaran a lot a lot of gelama, occasionally get the bigger ibu gelama, u will have duri, puffer, sa cui...hard to get biggies there. pari sometimes though
use prawns only, udang pasar, hook not too big i think size 1 will be enuff, or even smaller, for if u wanna fill ur box full of gelama
night trip i heard better results but never tried b4
*
sorry been away for business trip haven got chance to reply
just be inform by my friend the trip change place from sasaran to OFBN and surrounding sunken ship.......

he ask me go prepare 5/0 or 6/0 hook and 10-14 size sinker ....
when i go tackler shop buy only know the sinker and hook damn big didint know klang valley area need such big size hook and sinker doh.gif

now i really wonder my rod will it about to handle the sinker weight or not sweat.gif
will bring giant king pe1-3 and salty chef for bottom fishing, seriously i think the tip of the salty chef will break ........

Here the detail of the fishing trip

we drive to klang harbor at 6am in the morning
meet up with the boatman , this boatman is introduce by one of our friend uncle
we haven fish with him before and 3 out of 5 of angle are 1st timer going for sea fishing (including me)
this boatman dont fishing for a living he has a decent job , so he quite picky on the passenger for fishing
lucky my friend uncle manage to arrange for us

at 6.30am we have breakfast, klang people style "clay pot bat kut teh"
yum yum ,then we take our pill just in case the sea get rough
consist of "motilium" + "maxlon" (AKA : metoclopramide)
you have to mix both or it wont work and you need to take it 1 hour before going into the boat

7.30am
this boatman (refer as uncle hwa) bring us to jetty near of port klang
the place we disembark is from royal selangor yacht club, uncle hwa is a
member at the club, personal boat that well maintain,
load all our gears and supply into the boat

8am
we disembark from the yacht club jetty and start moving
the boat equip with two v6 engine , 300 house power , the boat damn fast 38knots
one of my friends hat get blow of during travel to fishing spot sweat.gif
journey to 1st fishing spot take 1 and hours hours
uncle hwa ask us prepare the rig , bait and the rod
when arrive just drop and fish, the sea was abit claim , didint see any big wave
wind was slow, uncle hwa say after today is dead current so today should got minor current flowing

around 9.30 arrive at 1st spot
we using 12-14 size sinker for today , uncle hwa says that should enough for today
we using floating style fishing with 牛角 (i dont know what that call in english), let the boat float no need anchor
just pay attention to the rod tip and make sure the sinker goes to bottom and watch the sinker knock on the sea bed ......

after half hour 1 of my friend manage to get 1 bite , the rod tip bend abit
he rush go reel it in and found a good size barracuda , uncle hwa faster ask us change bait to kampong fish
all reel up and change bait after that manage to get 3 more bait BUT all the leader get snap by barracuda
we didint prepare any steel cable doh.gif , wasted important time on tying rig ....
when the time we fishing tying the barracuda already gone
1st lesson learn ..... prepare extra rig ....... laugh.gif
after that we change spot number 2

around 11am 2nd spot
half hour trip from 1st spot , small fish nibble , kampong fish become skeleton .......
1st time saw, fish eaten so clean only skeleton left .....
only fish for half hour then move again
when moving uncle hwa suddenly warn us,after this spot cant loose fish
because the fish is big size you loose fish that spot cant fish anymore
the fish will stop baiting , also ask us prepare 80-100lb leader
real deal coming next

11.30am 3rd spot (THE REAL DEAL !)

double hook rig with 80lb leader !
LIVE bait octopus (rm8 each)
when arrive uncle hwa check the fish finder , ask us hold 1st .....
after wait for 20 minutes suddenly the fish finder start beeping LOUD !
uncel hwa faster ask us drop it to bottom , he say the current changing slowly
fish all come out already , i to have a look at the screen see damn lot of fish all coming out
at middle and low water area .....

faster go drop and wait.....
after 10 minutes no moment , no even a nibble
uncle hwa ask us reel up several feet then throw back in
1 by 1 we do what he say, when my turn when i reel up the damn fish grap the bait shocking.gif
didint even prepare for that suddenly the rod bend almost 90 degree, touching the water already
uncle hwa shout 吃钓阿 !! 快D收线 不要给线松。。。。。。会走鱼啊 !!!+

i swear in my life i never ever crank the handle so hard before LOL
the fish should be quite big manage to take half spool of my mono before i get in control
the slowly i reel the bugger out from the water
2nd fish for today a big red snapper, uncle hwa say around 4kg

user posted image

when reel up the line also tangle with others line
total 3 out of 6 rod was take out of action temporary thanks to the red snapper
wasted time to clean the char bihun ! mad.gif

the rest of the 3 rod keep on fishing and also manage to land 2 more similar size
red snapper

bad thing happen after 3rd fish , 1 of the rod main line break when fighting the fish
suddenly this spot become silent , seem like all fish was spook by us.....

manage to land on 3 red snapper at this spot ....... tongue.gif
not too bad for 1st timer ......
stay at this spot until current change the we move to another spo

2nd lesson learn, dont loose fish when when is frenzy time .....
you just spook the fish if you do so......

1pm 4th spot
nothing happen here , so we relax abit and eat lunch

2.00pm 5th spot
also nothing happen

2.30pm 6th spot
and 1 more 4kg size red snapper using octopus also

3.30-5.00pm 7th and 8th spot

7th spot we play apollo abit land around 20 small size fish

8th spot we were taken to this spot as our last attempt to get something REAL BIG
uncle hwa call this cobia hole as this spot is home to 10-30 kg cobia
using kampong fish as bait , nothing happen in 1st hour
my friend manage to get 1 strike , didint manage to see what fish because mainline broke again
according to uncle hwa it should be cobia , cant blame him lah

(he the 1 that lose fish at 3rd spot , using only 20lb mono line)
3rd lesson learn today...... dont bring your 20lb freshwater line for sea fishing doh.gif
you end up losing line and the fish .......

before we head back i change bait to pawn , manage to land 1 more small red snapper

at 5pm we start reel in and pack up things and head back to harbor .......

trophy for today thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

QUOTE(faujc99 @ May 20 2013, 02:39 AM)
wah nice report, nice fishing and nice fishes, nice boatman as well got so many spot with fish finder
snapper comes in group, they're famous for getting spooked if u lose 1 of them.
was wondering, u guys using ngau kok, where did u put the sinker? on the ngau kok itself or tie another line down and sinker at the bottom?
kembong fish for barracuda, rig whole fish or cut or fillet? hook size 4 and 5 the whole trip?
how many octopus u guys brought?
u have any pics of the boatman? was wondering whether its the same boatman who took us and had to patah balik half way due to engine cover flew off lol
sorry a lot questions, trying to learn here  nod.gif

gotta bring heavier lines next time, in fact i think u shud change to braided, mono line lacks lifting power, especially around rocky or structural area where u cant afford to let the fish swims back and hide. i'm starting to think that bottom fishing at sea, u gotta pull the fish with brute force and cant afford to play around like we used to in paypond  tongue.gif my last trip, boatman looked at my setup of pe1-3 rod paired with 4k reel and 40lb braided main line, he asked me whether my setup can pull up a 5kg fish, i said shud be ok gua, he said my line looked so thin lol, but when i see the way he pull up a 2kg++ snapper without mercy with much heavier rod, i know i'll have a hard time if that fish ends up on my rod. i guess that's bottom fishing, add in the weigh and curent, its so different from jigging, or fishing in paypond.

just my observation, hope any taiko can clarify  rclxms.gif
*
1) the sinker put at the ngau kok
2) use whole kembang fish with 2 hook , hook size 5/0 or 6/0 also can depend on the fish size ...
3) 5 for each angle rm 8 each
4) sorry dont have , he ask me not to take his picture lol

after this trip i think i need another pe 2-4 rod , 1-3 is abit soft , fish keep bully me LOL

i was invited to join the fishing trip, i didint have contact with the boatman
the trip was set up by a uncle of my friend.

QUOTE(faujc99 @ May 21 2013, 11:49 AM)
thx bro. but for barra, using wire leader with 2 hooks? gonna be a hassle to tie rite?
i guess after this a lot ppl here will ask u for boatman contact lol
*
we didint use wire leader before didint know about it

actually the barra is quite lucky because the boatman say it get hook at the edge of the mouth
the rest of the strike all leader were cut by barra , we using 80lb leader .....
forget to prepare wire leader for the trip.

further more, the flap looks flimsy as well. i guess it's still ok for bass fishing. don't know how good it will hold up against those monsters in exotic or some wild mama toman...

just got 3 of my reels back from servicing from digital puchong, service cost RM25 each, and two of the below need replacement which cost additional RM20 each, total damage RM115. 1st pic is from daiwa exceller S, used i think only about 5 times and already need replacement? how does this gets damaged and any prevention that we need to pay more attention? any sifu can clarify? both reels also damaged same item
2nd pics is from my ryobi arctica but that reel is more than a year without servicing so i think its fair that only 1 part needs replacement
[attachmentid=3460557]
[attachmentid=3460558]

from what i can see at the bearing is definitely already rusty........

the both reel you use for sea fishing ?????

usually what i do with my reel is after sea fishing i soak them in fresh water for several hours (unspool the line)
after that put it under sun for drying without handle attaching, after that will oil the whole reel again before storing it ...
