U r right. The new luvias looks a lot better. I was looking at the older boring version.

Hmm.. Certate, luvias or gekkabijin?
*
certate - all purpose workhorse
luvias - light stuff
beautiful moon maiden - squidding (much prefer the emeraldas' colour scheme tho')

just a thought biggrin.gif

'normal' is very subjective given there are categories
eg purpose, brand, material, range, strength, length, type
as in luring, cranking, bottom, casting, trolling, fly
yamaga, mudhole, daiwa, shimano, etc, etc, etc
fibreglass, composite, graphite, resin formulae
PE or lb range, max or best drag rating ... take your pick
1pc, 2pc, multi pc ... the list goes on ... you get the idea

so, what is 'normal' ? biggrin.gif

rm200-300+ blanks are quite good adi
rod roller for epoxy application and drying rm200+ (DIY cheap cheap biggrin.gif)
guides cost anything from the tens to the hundreds per set (number and type of guides depends on your needs, ie spin, bc, fly, deep sea, etc)
reel seat oso the same, tens to hundreds
handles won't be expensive (<rm100 or <rm50, again subject to EVA, hypalon, cork, wood, custom)

alternative, buy good but cheap, cheap but good rod ... strip it down and re-do

BTW, anyone keen to have a customed rod for yourself??

I intend to make a few in a series and if anyone interested, can prebook first.

No prototype yet, which i'm going to do so.

Estimated cost would be around RM300+-

1. Fuji ECS reel seat
2. Split handle grip design
3. Affordable rod blank
4. SiC guides
5. Your name on it

Any comments?

Was thinking of spiral wrap guides with micro guides. smile.gif rating should be 8-17lb and approx 6ft 2inch or 6ft

i would love to, rory
wanna get a 6 or 6' 6" xzoga takadum blank
thinking of BC + spinning ... ohhh man moneyflies.gif

no sir, not combined
1 bc, 1 spin ... the 8-17lb range sounds about right

For the series of rod, i was thinking to make 5~8pcs at one go. That should be able to minimise the cost for own customed fishing rod.

Anyone game?

1. Michael
2. Viox
3. Acheong (2 rods)
4.
5.
6.
7.

Bro Acheong,

I could split handle for you if you want smile.gif

No need to strip the whole handle, reel seat and guides(guides in the event of 1pc rod)

Just the split handle is easy task smile.gif

Why not take a snap shot of the current single handle(preferably with a measuring tape next to it, so that we could see the length of the single handle), then show us your preferred split handle design. I'll figure something out for you... smile.gif

If it's not too difficult, it's just 2~3hrs job smile.gif

Costing is 1 strip of EVA approx RM30+
RM11 3tonnes Epoxy
RM2 sandpaper approx 300 or 400 grit.

Walla.... kawtim smile.gif

wow, sounds simple ... i'm game biggrin.gif
but the rod is still front heavy ... can't be helped
it'll feel better with a reel

Bro Acheong,
Rod balancing is very important to eliminate angler fatigue, or at least it can be minimised if not eliminated.

FYI, a rod balancing is usually at the reel seat where the locking screw is. Try this: put any reel to your preference and lock it generously. Then place your finger on the locking nut or near to the T-joint of the spinning reel. See if your rod balance to forward or backward.

A good rod customisation can place the rod straight to it's personal application. Eg: Light jigging rod PE1.8 matching with Shimano 5000 series. The rod should be balanced.

Addon:
BTW, we still can weight balance back your rod when we custom it to split handle design smile.gif Still can be saved!

yessir, agreed and understood smile.gif
rod balances about 6" from estimated position of reel stem without reel
balances about 3 fingers from reel stem with 2000-2500 series reel
balances about 2.5 fingers from reel stem with 4000 series reel
last line is most comforting rclxms.gif good to know

as for PB ... no mercy for invasive alien predators, sorry
applicable to other cichlids, too

freshly caught AK PB ain't too bad ... be it fried or steamed

bro chun, the regno .. is it a two piece in black with silver highlights? reel locker clicks? was tempted to get it ... prob is, it's a 2pc rod .. even for such a short rod

the berkeley ice fishing rod is very stiff and relatively expensive

tried ganko rods yet? they're like the cheaper version of AJN ...
