I'm currently using Asus RT-AC55UHP on a 2.5 storey house and my UniFi is 100Mbps. Recently the Asus router is behaving strangely and I'm looking for a replacement router.

What would you recommend?

What do you mean by "behaving strangely"?

Most of my devices get frequently disconnected and auto-reconnect.

after updated to latest firmware, need to do factory reset.
If after factory reset , problem still remain, then call ASUS help centre...or maybe can tag @ASUSMY here.
*
How do I keep current configuration before factory restore?

You can only see those when you're using a third party firmware like ASUSWRT-Merlin.

Don't worry too much about the temps as it is self-regulating.

Thanks for the clarification.

Recently, I bought 2 units of RT-AC86U and configured them in AiMesh mode. I noticed the AiMesh node is assigned a dynamic IP address. Is it possible to change to a static IP?

Also, what is the best way to install cooling fan? Suck or blow air into the unit? Where shall I install the radiator sheet?

Hi nitehawk,

You may manually change the AiMesh Node IP using the IP binding feature in the client list.

Check the AiMesh Node current IP address and go to the client list and search for the same IP address. Click the IP address and change the IP address that you want and then click Apply.

You may need to restart the node if the IP address didn't change after you apply the setting.

Thank you

Thanks for the steps.

You cannot configure the ONU because it was locked. Its the problem of your Asus router. Please upgrade to a higher end Asus router, at least RT-AC68U. Beside that, please try to avoid 2.4GHz wireless connection. If you found that your neighborhood are using a powerful router, their wifi connection may interfering your home wifi connection. That's why you may found only 20mbps on wifi speed. Better is upgrade to RT-AC86U and use the smart connect rule. Turn the 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one SSID only.
*
I find the Smart Connect rule rather confusing. What is the recommended configurations?

I bought dual RT-AC86U and configured in AiMesh using 5GHz wireless to connect both devices. I discovered that
(1) main unit can connect 5GHz devices only
(2) node can connect both 2.4GHz and 5GHz devices

Is this normal behavior?

Hi nitehawk,

Maybe it is because you are using the same name and 5GHz are providing you are better signal strength.

If you using different SSID name for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, you can just turn off of the node to see the main router 2.4GHz is ok or not.

Thank you
*
I am using different SSID for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. When I configured Canon wireless (2.4GHz only) printer, the printer detected a multi router and prompt to choose auto and dedicated router MAC address. When I choose the main router, it said "unable to connect".

Recently, I noticed my Asus RT-AC86U will refused connection from 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. The problem will be resolved after reboot. This disconnection will re-occur after a few days.

Is it possible to restart 2.4G WiFi without reboot router?
