this is an interesting case.

do let us know what was the root cause when it finally gets fixed.

i encountered this once.

try rebooting - just click on it.

when done, power router off, restart.

Last resort, use the reset button. Power off, Press and hold button, power on, for 15 secs, then let go.

Redo everything.

"basic" use, rt n12hp b1 is at rm2xx is enough.

good for typical terrace house 50ft wifi, unless u have a lot of metal all around the house.

if u want dual band, USB at router, go for higher more pricey models.

the latest is 3.0.0.4.378.9443.

.. use mainly wifi; some devices 10 ft away, some 40 ft away; double storey house.
.. set up now fails to stream uhd4k video and hd audio nicely over wifi with SMB.

do u think a better router will work, what model do u suggest?

seeking your suggestion if i need to change router and if so, which is best choice.

i hv been using rtn12hpb1 for >4 years now, extremely pleased with it.

i recently changed 2 lan cables to cat6.

wifi is impt, from one corner to another, longest distance is almost 60ft (and yes, i can get almost full speed).

i should be moving from unifi 50mbps to 100 next week.

.. will the existing router be able to deliver optimal performance?
.. i know my router is only 2.4ghz but if i change to dual, i m concerned if 5ghz can cover 60ft..?
.. if better change, will cheaper ac1300uhp do or go for something higher like ac86u?
.. i do not see my needs expanding too fast at this time.

i do not have many walls and metal structures for wifi coverage.

yes, i m concerned that 5ghz can take higher speed but can't cover the distance - that's no good.

can't get the best of both?

as it is, i can get full 50mbps.

if a dual band with 5ghz can't cover a certain distance well, will that mean same speed but little getting thru = no good?

alright, i will first test it with existing router, see how it goes.

if not satisfied, will get a new router.

i m getting full 50mbps with rtn12hpb1 at 55ft wifi.

it may depend on many factors... distance, walls, metal, what device...

if old device old wifi modules, maybe cannot get full.


but was told won't get full 100mbps when i upgrade... may 70% of it... will see how...
