For a handset with such a broad range of standout features and specs, the Galaxy S II is remarkably easy to summarize. It's the best Android smartphone yet, but more importantly, it might well be the best smartphone, period. Is it perfect? No, of course not. While we like some of Samsung’s tweaks – the Kies air app is surprisingly useful, for instance – we’d prefer to see a clean Gingerbread install rather than TouchWiz. How much of a delay that UI modification will force on future Android OS updates remains to be seen, and some changes – such as the keyboard – are frankly backward steps. There are also some annoying teething pains, such as the Video Maker app being unable to handle the Galaxy S II’s 1080p footage.
They pale in comparison to the Samsung’s strengths, however. The display belies its WVGA resolution with Super AMOLED Plus technology that manages to be both frugal and visible outdoors, while the dual-core 1.2GHz processor does a similar balancing act with power use and performance. Together they add up to a smartphone with brilliant battery life and the most future-proof hardware we’ve seen to-date. Layer on top of that a great camera, fulsome multimedia support, broad connectivity and a wafer-thin design, and we’re running out of reasons not to buy the Galaxy S II. Samsung has upped not only its game but the benchmark for smartphones in general.

Seldom do we rate a phone a full 5/5, but the Galaxy S II is one of the most advanced, well-rounded, and powerful smartphones we've ever tested. Samsung truly delivered on its second-generation Galaxy S. We can't get over how thin the Galaxy S II is, and it's a true joy to be able to browse the web with such smoothness and speed.
There certainly is room for improvement here. Samsung ought to work on making TouchWiz as lean as possible, and it'd be nice to turn it off entirely and revert back to stock Android for maximum speed. We also wonder whose idea it was to have the device make a beep when the battery is fully charged...if you like waking up at 3AM, this won't be a problem for you, but for those of us that like to sleep soundly, it's a big annoyance.

The Plus indicates a transition from the Pentile matrix to a panel technology that has three sub-pixels for each pixel. The Pentile matrix shares eight sub-pixels between four pixels while the new pixel layout in Super AMOLED Plus follows what has been commonly done in LCD panels. This means the same four pixels will have a total of 12 sub-pixels. This should translate to improved color reproduction and a generally sharper-looking images.

The internal 16 GB is flash memory. 2 GB is partitioned (unviewable) and all your apps is installed there. Out of the balance 14 GB, about 2GB is used by phone system and you have about 12 GB left. When you installed apps with supporting data, example games downloads, dictionary data, news feed, tweeter feeds data etc, all such data goes into the other 12 GB partition

If your device is root, you can do this by renaming the shutter sound ogg file in /system/media/audio/ui. Rename it to .ogg.bak and it should stop the noise. Battery maintenance tips : from forum lowyat SGS thread
1) Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a device is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.
2) Batteries with fuel gauge should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.
3) Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.
4) Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.
5) If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.
How to calibrate battery ?
1.Run the device down until it turns itself off. 2.Turn it back on and wait for it to turn itself off again. 3.Remove the battery for 10 seconds. 4.Replace the battery, but leave the device off. 5.Charge the device until full and then for another hour. 6.**Root users only** Using a Terminal Emulator, type “su” enter, followed by “rm /data/system/batterystats.bin” ( can also be done more easily through CWM or SGSTools app) 7.Run the device’s battery down until it turns itself off. 8.Turn the device on and charge for at least 8 hours. 9.Unplug the device, turn off, then charge for another hour. 10.Unplug the device, turn on, wait 2 minutes. 11.Turn off again and charge for another hour. 12.Restart and use as normal.

Tips from user selphy : Ok, for those of you who have trouble installing the Google Maps (for Navigation), i had issues too, but managed to do it through the following:
1. First, make sure your phone is rooted, then download the Google Maps-ownhere.apk (NOT the re-sign one), and transfer to your external SD card. 2. Using Titanium backup on your phone, wipe data and then uninstall both Google Maps and Street View. 3. Then using root explorer on your phone (i used Super Manager, which also has root functions), transfer the Google Maps-ownhere.apk file to your phone's system/app folder (make sure its set to R/W). 4. Then just reset the phone, and voila! Navigation is available!

Deep Sleep runs automatically by the kernel and on battery only. If connected to charger, the kernel won't trigger deep sleep mode (the CPU will throttle down to 200MHz). When activated, the kernel will reduce the CPU frequency like notebook standby and will wake the phone when any services require an update in order to save battery.
Drawback, it introduce the wake up lag to the phone. If your phone instantly wakes up on battery, it means there is an active app running in the foreground (normally apps which requires constant network access) or a nasty app did not suspend or kill by the OS.

For new users and to be user - the SGS II operating temperatures is higher than most other Androids, simply because it is dual core and its thinness transmit heat easily. Some users like to use the word " hot" - I'd said is warmer than normal. The word hot connotes a feeling of uneasiness and a possible burning effect on your skin, which it will not. Most users I believe will use some sort of casing or backcover - these will reduce the effect
If you have been using single core Androids 1 GHZ models before - you will not experienced the " hotness" as a serious concern, I'd say generally is about 2-3 degree centigrade more. Those who are coming over from say Blackberries and Symbian will feel the difference more obviously
Use an app to monitor battery temperatures - batterylife widget is a good free app. It shows you the temperature and voltage and is quite a well designed widget

Rooting an Android phone opens its core functions that aren’t available when you buy it. One of the major benefits is the ability to install apps to the SD card, which saves space on the device. Rooting also enables you to install apps that required access to system files, example - backup , screenshots . Commonly use of rooting is to allow installation of alternative roms which is faster and better, more features, and reduced bloatware. Rooting will not remove your 3rd party apps, data/wipe clean your phone. And the chance of bricking the phone during rooting is close to impossible. Just make sure your phone has at least 50% battery charge. How to Root? (ONLY For the Original Galaxy S2 variant (i9100)

Rooting
1. Download Odin and the correct CF-root zip file according to your firmware. To check, go to settings, about phone, scroll to the bottom. Look at kernel version, remember the last 3 letters, so let's say its XXKL1, then download the KL1 CF Root file.
2. Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
3. (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
4. Start ODIN
5. Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
6. Put your phone in download mode (To enter download mode, power off the phone, then press the volume down+home+power button at the same time. Once you see the GT-I9100, let go of all 3 buttons. The phone will display "warning" and some text. Press volume up button to continue. Your phone should show an android icon and "downloading" text. This means you are in download mode now.)
7. (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
8. Make sure repartition is NOT checked
9. Click the START button
10. Wait for the phone to reboot
11. Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
It is definitely possible to remove that pesky warning triangle during boot when running a custom kernel, though you should be well aware that this method does NOT reset the custom kernel flash counter. The steps are not complicated, but they aren't easy either, so read well.
1. Make sure you have CF-Root flashed (see the first post). You must have the "CWM Manager" app available.
2. Make sure you have the same version of CF-Root extracted until you have the zImage file. (ZIP --> extract --> TAR --> extract --> zImage).
3. Push the zImage file to /sdcard . It must still be called zImage !
4. Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)
5. Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or boot the device with home and volume-down pressed)
6. Fire up ODIN, and flash the Samsung kernel
7. Boot the device with the stock kernel. CWM Manager will still be available.
8. Start CWM Manager, select Flash Kernel, and select the zImage from CF-Root you previously put on your SD-card. The kernel will flash and the device will reboot.
9.You will now notice you no longer have the warning triangle during boot, but you are actually running CF-Root with all it's goodies!
10. In the future, if you only use the Flash Kernel option inside CWM Manager instead of ODIN, the triangle will not return, neither will your flash counter increase. But keep in mind, that CWM Manager can only handle a direct "zImage" if you are NOT running a kernel with full busybox support (this is currently needed for flashing kernels out of .TAR and .ZIP files)

First and foremost I am not an expert in such stuffs - this is based on my experience flashing the first Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab and present Galaxy S II. Any experts reading this please do correct me if I am wrong in any way
PIT stands for PARTITION INFORMATION TABLE. The pit file basically tells Odin how to divide the partitions (for formating) and also where certain components ( PDA, PHONE, CSC ) to go when flashing them individually. PIT understanding is very crucial when you wish to flash roms from samfirmware.com , one place I always discourage new users from attempting as it is a trap to bricking a phone if you do not understand what you are doing
Cooked roms take cares of PIT ; you rarely see cooked roms asking you to choose PIT during flash thro Odin. Most cook roms, the developer has built in his rom the PIT instructions
For example, in the samfirmware.com Galaxy S site, you can even see different types of PIT listed and a warning that you choose the right PIT file. In its SGS II site, If you look at samfirmware.com - there is a default PIT file you can download at the top box just above the list of firmwares for different regions. If you download any of these official roms, you will see some roms comes with a PIT file and some does not. You asked a very good question, why is the PIT included if is of no use ? My advise is simply this : If you see a PIT included in your rom, choose it during flashing as most probably the PIT is a changed version from default. You can only use this PIT to flash with the rom that comes with it. You cannot take this PIT and used it to flash another rom - this will brick your phone. When you use a wrong PIT - you have 2 possible scenarios : - failed flash and phone cannot boot - flash OK but the whole internal SD is formatted and cannot be detected at all by phone ( my experience with the Tab)
If the rom downloaded does not supplied a PIT file - than you just flash it without it or you choose the default PIT
As the PIT name implies, using PIT basically repartition /reformat your whole internal SD - once you select PIT, you will see repartition is auto selected. All your data in the internal SD will be wipe clean
You can choose NOT to select the PIT during flashing if you wish to have your internal SD intact. I cannot say whether you will have a successful flash. If is successful it just means your present rom PIT is similar to the rom you have downloaded. If is unsuccessful, just flash it again and select PIT
If the rom file is packaged together as a single tar file ( instead breakdown into separate entities of PDA, Phone, CSC ) , there is no need to use PIT. Just flash the tar file as PDA in Odin
Recovery/Download Mode?

Download mode is used when you need to flash rom through Odin. Recovery mode is used when you wish to do a backup/restore of your phone, flash roms based on zip files, cleaning up your caches , update firmware officially through supplied update zip files etc.
Difference between Normal Recovery and ClockWorkMod Recovery?

The one that comes with the phone (Normal Recovery) has very little to it. It only has few basic features such as reboot system, clear cache, clear data partition and apply update from SDcard.
ClockworkMod has much more to it such as :

5. Install zip from card
6. Backup and restore

Q: What is a ROM?
A: A ROM contains the operating system and often additional software which can be “installed” to your mobile device. Most ROM’s provided by the chefs (people who create cutomized ROM’s) just contain the operating system and additional applications. Shipping ROM’s (ROM’s provided by the manufacturer or official providers) also contain a Radio ROM and a bootloader. Please notice: A ROM can ONLY be flashed to a device it is made for.
Q: What is a Radio ROM?
A: The Radio ROM contains the drivers for the communication devices of your phone. Some ROM’s need one or more specific Radio ROM’s to work properly. Usually the chef, who created the ROM recommends a Radio ROM. But don’t mind, if your Radio Rom does not match, you can always flash another without needing to flash the ROM containing the Operating System (OS) again.
Q: What means SIM-Unlock?
A: Lots of providers want to bind their customers. So they add a SIM-Lock to their devices with only allows to use SIM-Cards using their networks. If you want to use a SIM-Card from another provider, you need to SIM-unlock your device. This can be done by contacting the phone's provider (paid & sometimes free). This is common for USA based Tecos.
Q: Can I brick my phone by flashing a ROM?
A: YES. But if you follow all instructions, it is quite implausible that your device bricks.
Q: Does flashing affect the warranty of my device?
A: Yes, flashing an unofficial rom will void warranty. But as long as your device can be unrooted and be reflashed again to stock original rom you can than send in for warranty claims.
Q: What can I do, if i gain problems with the ROM i flashed to my device?
A: First of all you should inform the creator by posting in the ROM's thread if the problem is not described yet. Then you should wait for an update/fix or, if the issue is a showstopper for you, try another ROM.
Q: Which is the best/fastest/... ROM?
A: Nobody can answer you this properly. There are nearly daily new ROM's here and everybody has different demands to a ROM. If you want to know, which fits best for you, read the ROM description and try the ROM('s). Only you can decide, which ROM is the best (for you).
Q: What is the difference between a hardreset and a softreset?
A: A softreset reboots your device. A hardreset sets all settings back to the ROM's defaults. All of your data, settings and additionally installed programs will be deleted.
What is IMEI?

The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI is a number, usually unique, to identify GSM, WCDMA, and iDEN mobile phones, as well as some satellite phones. It is usually found printed inside the battery compartment of the phone. It can also be displayed on the screen of the phone by entering *#06# into the keypad on most phones.
The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "blacklist" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless on that network and sometimes other networks too, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed.

Every user of this phone should always backup their IMEI just incase something goes wrong when flashing files, use 'ktool' to backup your IMEI, it can also be used to flash new kernel files.

The JIG just resets your flash counter and remove the yellow triangle during first bootup What does this counter do exactly?
It's very simple: it counts the number of times you flash a custom ROM or kernel on your SGS II, so the guys over at Samsung know of it when you return the phone to them for any kind of problem you may have (this is done so they can say whether you've voided your warranty or not). Even using Odin to get back to stock won't help you and will let the counter go up by one The good news is that the counter can be reset by using one of those jigs we all know very well
No, unfortunately Samsung has very clear in mind what it's doing. It seems there is a second counter, which counts the number of times the custom flash counter has been reset, and the bad news is that its position/folder has not been discovered yet.
Please note that ROMS made for the Original S2 cannot be flashed with the G version of S2 or you will brick your phone. Only ROMS made for the G version can be flashed.

If you install cracked/pirated apps from illegal "ahem" sources or using one of those blackmarket, faked android market apps, etc BEWARE that your phone becomes unstable. Common symptoms said to be due to these are :
- unexplained sudden reboots - auto shutdown - unstable browsing - sudden swing back to homescreen, freeze while in midst of browsing - occasional hangs/freeze while in use
The instability issues is more apparent/commonly occurring if phone is on Android version above Froyo 2.2.2 . Gingerbread is obviously more insecure
No one knows exactly how these cracked apps interact with one another and a combination of certain specific apps could be the cause of these issues. Installing anti virus apps might help but is not a proven solution.

Most people come into custom roms and dont really understand what the forums are saying to them in the terms of doing things the right way, often things get misinterpreted as i understand but really you don't!!!
This is the case when it comes to custom roms installation, new comers think yeah i'll have a go and go for it without even understanding the basics of custom roms, wrong move, a little research didn't do anybody any harm, and is time well spent when it comes to taking a gamble on bricking your phone.
The main thing I've noticed is that people don't understand what a full wipe is and just go with what they see...
Going into clockwork mode and just selecting wipe. data, wipe delvic cache, wipe cache, is not a proper full wipe, its like wiping your arse with shit still in your bumhole untill you wash it, no no no, this method doesn't remove the old system files, there still there untill you carry out a format of the system partition, if you dont do this and install a rom over it you will have problems with the rom you just installed.
The correct procedure for doing a full wipe is below.
Go to clockwork mode recovery.
Go to mounts and storage and select it.
Go to format / system and select it. Scroll down to format system and select yes.
Go to format / data and select it. Scroll down to format data and select yes.
Go to format / cache and select it. Scroll down to format cache and select yes.
That's it no need to format anything else, just go back and install the rom from sd card.
This is the correct way of doing a full wipe everything is erased and formatted ready for the new rom, no old system files etc....

have you checked your connections? select MTP instead of mass storage.

Disaster Rom v4.1 lockscreen freeze is not fully fix. I had my 3rd freeze since flashed last night. I guess the fix on v4.1 is partial only. It only freezes less than v4. Haizzz... need another update fix??

All the leak rom also like that. Haiz, but even so, I prefer it over cm10 volume bug.
Able to use wifi direct n mhl is a big plus for me.
I using disaster rom under clock to 1ghz also higher than u. Haha. Never try this benchmark before, but benchmark r not accurate. Dun take then seriously.

Just like quadrant, this benchmark crazy one. I remove under clock let it run at default clock speed get 8k. So under clock actually gives higher performance. Weird right?
In quadrant I get 4.6k if under clock to 1ghz. But it run normally get about 3k. Further proof benchmark is pointless.

wanamlite battery life is pretty impressive, i ilded it overnight and battery dropped only 3%

i9100G GPU is very much inferior than non g. its obvious in benchmarks, but in real world usage the difference is barely noticable,
try nenamark benchmark, thats the benchmark for GPU performance, non g easily get >40. g version on ics stock rom i think between 29-35.
but stress again, dun pay too much attention to benchmark, real world usage, its barely noticable. i couldn't tell the difference at all when i was using my friends s2 g version. feels and looks the same as mine only. camera, gallery, browser, all apps works same only.
s2 bravo, s3 & note original housing got problem it will cracked itself like a hair line. my friend got note 2 just claimed from sme.no need explain so much...means samsung already knew this problem happened.

pros = doesn't kill your wifi chip because it's not there to leak
Try asking lor. Btw if that battery already dead. Maybe they can change to new one

Pros is keep ur motherboard from failure incase that leaked battery liquid goes through that wifi chip.
Cons is ur time and date will reset if phone battery removed

jellybean 4.2, 99% of the cool/important stuff already available right now in 4.1.2 cm10/aokp/pa/samsung JB. (new camera, photo sphere, new clock, gesture keyboard, new google now, new swipable gmail)
whats missing are the very minor/useless stuff. ~quick settings panel (which is totally useless, never once use it at all, cm10 toggles are way better) ~minor extra animation in recent app list. ~different way of telling you permissions when install apps in play store (nothing major, no one reads it anyway) ~multi user (only available on tablet, useless on tablet too due to nexus tablet having limited storage) ~day dream, if you have a dock, it activate screen saver. (words cant describe how stupid/useless this feature is) ~lock screen widget (which is quite useless imo, due to limited widgets. i mean just unlock and get to your full widgets in homescreen isnt that better? ) ~miracast, somekind of wireless HDMI thing (i think most of us dont have TV that support it anyway)

For the previous page comments on the FB, is your FB..smooth? Like changing between Newsfeed and profile, mine seems to lag Loading stuff and all is alot faster, but like changing page from the side panel seems abit choppy on mine. Could be just my phone pasal.
Specifically those side panel stuff btw. Scrolling through feed seems good. And finally it loads up quickly

whats missing are the very minor/useless stuff. ~quick settings panel (which is totally useless, never once use it at all, cm10 toggles are way better) ~minor extra animation in recent app list. ~different way of telling you permissions when install apps in play store (nothing major, no one reads it anyway) ~multi user (only available on tablet, useless on tablet too due to nexus tablet having limited storage) ~day dream, if you have a dock, it activate screen saver. (words cant describe how stupid/useless this feature is) ~lock screen widget (which is quite useless imo, due to limited widgets. i mean just unlock and get to your full widgets in homescreen isnt that better? ) ~miracast, somekind of wireless HDMI thing (i think most of us dont have TV that support it anyway)
but anyhow, its nice developers still taking care of s2.

Neat rom? Since when it can customize toggles? Similar to wanam its the most feature deprived rom. Plain stock with philz kernel only.
Disaster rom is the one can customize. I would recommend alliance rom, but you say you dun like aosp theme.
Me too become attracted to samsung rom for working Hdmi n wifi direct. Don't see myself going back to aosp.

Hmmm... in notification it will show MTP connected & Tap to connect to USB. Tap it & in my computer u will see drive F (phone) & G drive( ext SD ). Mine is connected this way. Try & see.

Jellybam update for S2 non G or any other device will not be a quick as before. IGio10 has bitten off more than he could chew. He has been spinning too many roms lately. This will surely affect the rom quality. Talk about greed.

The initial 4.2.1 will surely have bugs being new. Will not flash until its more stable. Patience lor.
Guys charging temperature on Alliance Rom is really hot @ 50%C & quite slow. Is this normal? On previous Rom can't really feel any heat on device while charging.

on 4.1.2 is even worst on jellybam.. sometimes use up almost all of it. left back less than 50MB.. but surprisingly phone still wont drain battery and very smooth.

On my tablet I used to use Chrome for fb. But now I just use the app. The app is actually faster than chrome nw. This were completely different before fb2.0 where the browser is faster than app. Lol...

Yeah in terms of screen size. LOL! S2 on JB stock rom is just as great. Oh more importantly, note 2 batt life is super. Never have to worry about battery when using note 2. Data can leave on 24/7 on 3g and use live wallpaper without worries.

Ahh okie cool, I'll get about to trying stock rom one of these days. I'm on CM9.1, think that's really ancient. Really nothing to shout about performance/smoothness/etc wise
But yea I think exynos devices wise, TW roms always performs better on them

I agree new tw is very nice. Using it too. But it's a leak version. No complete jkay mods features. And got lockscreen freeze bug when on wifi.
After official full version release I hope it'll get better. But even as a leak wit bug. I prefer it over aosp roms.

Get the kernel makers to add protection for this loophole. I think entropy is adding it into cm kernel. They can refer to andreilux/entropy on what they did.

No it should do the same thing. Some people that have not rooted their phone can use supercurio version. Also I do not think this applies for G version as it is not an exynos base.

I applied the fix but my camera works fine.. 4.2 camera la. Back camera no issues. Front camera no bother since im a guy and don't camwhore.

I dont install any jellybam b4.. so i dont know.. So far i consider usable.. but i need to check important features that i always use.. still not found that consider cacat at my eyea

My ex gs2 have one problem. Cant listen any music or watching videos, i will force shut down my phone suddenly. Thats why i sell it. Wow.. More cheap than me. If sell still can get rm600 and above and if trade in still can get rm700++. Where the shop u asked?

Can totally stop using the home button. Screen size will reduce from 4.3 -> 4.0 inch. It's still big and doesn't take too long to get used to. Good for people with problematic home button.
Also, having the recent app button is very useful.

I will definitely choose mcm cm10 build over cm10.1 .. reason is simple.. cm10.1 still consider incomplete and user experience is totally different in term of smoothness..

give some time for maturity of 10.1.. for time being, you should upgrade to cm10 base.. let alone cm9 .. haha.. once i jump off to cm10, never look back to cm9 anymore..

You are right. Android 4.1 & 4.2 not much improvement other than the intro of new clock, camera and Gmail app. Which are readily available for 4.1.
My nexus 7 upgrade from 4.1 - >4.2 Don't feel in difference also in terms of smoothness and usage.

You are right. Android 4.1 & 4.2 not much improvement other than the intro of new clock, camera and Gmail app. Which are readily available for 4.1.
My nexus 7 upgrade from 4.1 - >4.2 Don't feel in difference also in terms of smoothness and usage.

is it due to memory leaks?
To check for mem leak. Go to Application>Running Apps. Quick continuous tap on the status bar like a zillion times to see if memory used increases.

The button is not really responsive..need to press with right position, right pressure, right angle to make it work..lol..
If below 100..definitely I will do..but I guess not..normally service center will charge sky high price.. Saw the spare part selling in Malaysia also cost around RM50 per piece.. Will go and ask first before decide..

Can totally stop using the home button. Screen size will reduce from 4.3 -> 4.0 inch. It's still big and doesn't take too long to get used to. Good for people with problematic home button.

Rooting in a nutshell gives u permission to mess around with your phone, which would otherwise be locked coz manufacturers don't want u messing with complex stuff and then screwing the phone.
If you go to post #3 of the front page, there's a whole post on rooting.
Among other things, you get to control data backup, install custom roms (which give you more features or different feel), install custom kernels (assuming kernel is done well, can give u performance and/or battery boost), use root apps that give you root functions (like apps that let you overclock, play around with voltages, do root functions like automatically killing apps n shiz), and a whole load of other stuff.

If you use aosp rom, everything is perfect. User apps (stuff you install) are perfect, all will scale perfectly. Aosp system apps scale perfectly as well. No distortion whatsoever.
But I use touch wiz rom, system apps will not scale, instead they get cropped. Example: dialer,tw launcher & camera Still usable just not nice looking. I rarely use dialer, since I have speed dial in home screen, I use apex launcher, and camera jb+. So not an issue for me. User apps scale perfectly.
The buildprop change is not permanent. If u don't like the on screen keys, just delete the line and restart and the on screen keys will be gone. No harm at all.

It's just to spoof hide. Only in your device you cannot see. But other ppl can still see. Its under PLUS -> Conversation Screen -> Header -> then scroll to the bottom.
Enable them and then set it to the same color code as your header.
im a heavy user and my battery's a little "kaput" already actually..
what i noticed: with 7.4.2 -> about 1 hour of usage (now only 88%) with the latest dorimanx kernels -> about 45 mins (already 75% battery left)
quite satisfied (for now.. will test few more days) as im a heavy user. at least can extend abit more without having to charge all the time.

im currently using stock from dorimanx. didnt configure anything..
you should try 7.4.2, can really notice the difference in your battery life.
kindda sad with S2 HDMI out capabilities. its performance is not consistent. i'm comparing with ipad3 using its own hdmi adapter.
first downside is the ipad one no need external power, just connect adapter to ipad, and hdmi cable to adapter. s2 one need plug in charger only work. and even with charger, it wont charge, and battery % will drop when use. ipad one without charger, use for 1 hour, only drop 7%.
s2 cable syok syok will disconnect itself and takes 10seconds like that to connect back. if you touch it, very easy disconnect, so need to be very careful. even if never touch, if get notification, it will confirm disconnect. maybe not enough power or due to the vibration. ipad one can shake shake also wont disconnect, maybe old ipad connector so fat, makes it very secure.
for image quality. tried with various TV. using the same image, and video, and hdmi cable.
on 1920x1080 tv, ipad super smooth,image crystal clear,color vivid (like amoled quality) in everything (video,picture,apps,games).
S2 for image vieweing takes time to load (tried 4.2 gallery, samsung gallery, camera JB+ gallery),all also when swipe to a new pic, the image appear unclear, but got a layer of grey blurness that need half a second to clear off (only on TV, doesnt appear on the phone screen). the color is seriously very pale compare to ipad one. S2 framerate is inconsistant, sometimes smooth sometimes lagg. overall sharpness is terrible, i think it just upscale 800x480 and stretch it to 42inch. thats why image viewing sucks if compared to ipad one. but for video, it does play in 1080p, very sharp and nice, color also very good. duno why the difference for video. only video performance is good.
its not very noticable when you just see the s2 one, but once change to ipad one to compare the difference is very noticable.
on 1024x768 resolution tv S2 and ipad both also consistantly fast, fluid, and vivid. picture clarity same for both device, probably due to the low TV resolution.
btw, i'm no apple lover, but in this hdmi out thing, the ipad is a very much better performer, especially with bigger screen, better color, and better stability (not easy disconnect suddenly).
lastly, very butthurt cos i buy the hdmi official samsung one in garage sales, cost rm35.
in lowyat plaza, got sell one hdmi adapter for rm29 only. it has build in hdmi cable, means the adapter itself have a 3meter long wire to go to your phone, no need use real hdmi cable that is fat and hard to handle.

Need help guys. 2day my sdcard suddenly unmount. It happened 2 times already. I am sure its the ext sdcard coz when i checked in the storage menu, it shows my ext sd is unmount. Had to remount it back. When the sdcard is unmounted, checked in gallery it says "sdcard as mass storage device" n there is no file as i kept everything in my ext. But if i use es explorer it can detect my card n i can access it with no problem. It happens after i play game, or during surfing the net, at the notification area suddenly say sdcard safely unmount or something like that. Tried google, n it seems this happened to other android device but there is no proper solution or known couse. There is a forumer in lyn also face the same problem in v16 but no solution is given. So thought its already long ago maybe now there is already something i can do. My phone is only 4month old, n same as the sdcard. Is it possible my sdcard having problem ot is it a software issue. My phone is g version, not rooted.

these are the add ons that were available back when they have AROMA installer. if you didnt perform a full wipe on every update then this zip file is useless as the apps will be in it.
but i dunno why SOME will be gone, while some remains.
however, if u dun want to flash every single app in the zip file.. just extract the apk that you want from the zipfiles.. its safe to flash for s2, those are just applications.

Yeah..someone claim he did the fix for it..but still failed for some users.. You mean when wifi is off, the freeze wont occur? How about wifi on but not connected? Didnt notice this though..

for me i mostly on my wifi, so i do notice it. but if im outside for lunch/dinner where i off wifi, never happen at all. i havent test long enough to confirm this, but try observe your freeze, it only happens during wifi on right? i dont remember seeing it happen when wifi off.
about the fix, its made by a developer called goldie something. he notice that in some codes, one line is using S3 one, maybe samsung leak rom forgot to change the battery value, so he change it from 2100 to 1650. and he says he think "maybe" it will solve it. but everyone else 'assumes' it is "solved", so they add this to their custom rom and proudly announce no more lockscreen freeze. those people that says "yeah its solved", must be outdoor and have their wifi off. just my thoughts.

assuming you don't have a external microsd card, enter recovery>advanced/mount>mount internal sdcard>plug usb cable into phone>copy the jellybam.zip from computer into phone>flash

i just wan to knw is it me or everyone is facing this problem. my s2 sometimes will hang when i play music and i need to reset my phone by on off it (using dorimanx kernel jellybam). . oh ya 1 thing, after i flash the new jellybam 3.1, my phone stuck at boot animation . . anyone having this problem?

i also suffered hang when im using one of the latest dorimanx kernel.. not even doing anything and it hangs..
like leave it there for an hour or so, then just unlock to reply a whatsapp message.. hang!
what i did was i flashed the "legendary" battery saver kernel version.. v7.4.2: http://dorimanx.shine.sk/ (scroll to the bottom)
and my problems were solved. no more random hang. also battery life really improved alot
hmmm, didnt flash 3.1, so wont know. planning to skip this update

well guys, if you use siyah kernel or anything related to siyah (dorimanx), there's risk of getting sod, or hang.
i used my phone for 1 year 4 months, other than 1 month using siyah getting sod daily, even when i never tweak anything in the external tweaks app, also will get hang sometimes. fresh install, no underclock also will get sod. haiz.
all the other time when using stock kernel, or cm kernel, 0% have hang, seriously. in xda, every complain related to sod is people using siyah or dorimanx.
duwan hang dun use siyah. whatever extra feature that kernel offers, not worth if it has % to cause hang. or if you're lucky a current version with your current setting doesnt cause hang, stick to it, dont update the kernel, resist the temptation.
Hmmm what's the difference? I installed holo straight away..

try reflash or redownload the file file maybe corrupted or check the md5 checksum

anyone facing this issue whenever i went into cwm mode with flash or without flashing anything after reboot the system the battery will always drop atleast 40% of it
let's say if before reboot into cwm mode battery is 50% after reboot back from cwm battery left 12% only (i yet to flash anything to the phone yet)
just flashed the latest jellybam after months of using PA2.50. haha. can u guys share the settings on paranoid settings so match the original PA? i noticed that the status bar is bigger and the lockscreen looks weird.. :S

me, its just the same as previous version, just add torch at the toggles. i quit alliance rom because i notice it always wake lock due to media, i guess the more tweaks/theming you add, the less stable it become, so just stick back to disaster.

Notice media hogging as well. Ram also eating up a lot more. Hmmn.. d/loading & will flash soon. Did u do wipe data when flashing Disaster v5.5?

1) When charging the battery, sometime it charge fast to full but when i put it over night, the battery drain out to 5-10% only.
2) The home button not working really well. If i press 10 time, maybe 1-2 time working only.
3) The usb connect not working well because when i plug in the usb connector to my laptop, sometime it connect and sometime not.
Does anyone have this problem before or i need to go samsung service center to change the whole motherbaord and around what is the fee?

from what i guess of your symptoms above, the problem is simple, there is still water inside, i don't think it is a permanent damage, you need time to do its job so that the water will evaporate.
After using Paranoid long time ago, suddenly I face problem when rebooting my phone since it hang itself. Now it stucks on startup page only for 2 hours. I can reboot to recovery mode but anything I can do without losing my important data inside, such as sms, pictures, videos...
hmm, whats the use for serial number? warranty purposes?

yes, go to AOKP Settings -> General UI -> Untick "Enable Dual Panel"
IF it doesnt work, you have to go to it's paranoid android hybrid properties..
Open Settings -> Exit it -> Long press home button -> Long tap Settings thumbnail -> Hybrid Properties -> Swipe to the right once, select the PX, there should be 360px and 600px -> after that reboot 600px is tablet mode..
and for the battery drop it is normal. i dunno how to explain, but it happens when you off your phone and reboot. ytd also i kena, but lucky i was at home and not out. from 90% drop till 54%.
but if lets say you kena this issue, just leave it idle for about 30mins-1 hour, you will notice your battery automatically rises back to its original amount after some time.. WITHOUT charging.

try to reflash the rom WITHOUT WIPE! then you should be able to boot, after that backup all your important data and see which rom to switch to.

IF it doesnt work, you have to go to it's paranoid android hybrid properties..
Open Settings -> Exit it -> Long press home button -> Long tap Settings thumbnail -> Hybrid Properties -> Swipe to the right once, select the PX, there should be 360px and 600px -> after that reboot 600px is tablet mode..
and for the battery drop it is normal. i dunno how to explain, but it happens when you off your phone and reboot. ytd also i kena, but lucky i was at home and not out. from 90% drop till 54%.
but if lets say you kena this issue, just leave it idle for about 30mins-1 hour, you will notice your battery automatically rises back to its original amount after some time.. WITHOUT charging.
Added on December 24, 2012, 1:03 pm actually i dont mind getting the 2k mah battery.. but it wouldnt fit my current casing, and not many casing were built for the fatter battery.
Added on December 24, 2012, 1:07 pm try to reflash the rom WITHOUT WIPE! then you should be able to boot, after that backup all your important data and see which rom to switch to.

though my battery almost die... coz previously i dont face such issue even reboot from cwm the battery never drop so much and i did left it idle for few hour but the battery only rises from 7% to 13% only after that never increase already i need to recharge else it will not rise at all

really? mine rised at least 30% in about an hour.. but after that i reached home already.. better than nothing.
but once i read on XDA its kernel related also. :S.
from what i guess of your symptoms above, the problem is simple, there is still water inside, i don't think it is a permanent damage, you need time to do its job so that the water will evaporate.
Do you mean that i turn off the phone and take out everything and let it dry few more days?
