Is it true u need haswell compatible psu? Is seasonic m12ii 620 is ok for 4790k and 780.
*
No. I have built several Haswell machines with non-Haswell PSUs (Seasonic S12II and M12II, to be exact) and they work just fine. icon_idea.gif

According to Cooler Master:
QUOTE
Most power supplies don't support Haswell - False
I need a Haswell certified power supply to build a Haswell system - False
Haswell only works with DC-DC Power Supplies - False
Haswell only works with 80+ Gold and better Power Supplies - False
Haswell requires a second 12V rail and doesn't work with single rail Power Supplies - False
On some older power supplies, Haswell consumes 5W more in idle mode - True

Is S12G 650w good? I don't plan for OC.
*
It's a good one. tongue.gif
Note that the S12G is pretty much the non-modular version of the Seasonic G series. icon_idea.gif

The new Cooler Master V750 with 100% Japanese caps:

Panasonic capacitors as the main hold up capacitors, with Chemi-con, Rubycon, Suncon (Sanyo) electrolytic capacitors. There's also an Unicon polymer capacitor on the PSU as well. Unicon is a lesser known manufacturer of capacitors for your information. icon_idea.gif

You'd need a quality 550W to 600W unit, though the problem is your PSU isn't exactly a good one... sweat.gif

Hi bro,

Seems you are an expert in PSUs judging from your posts here  tongue.gif

Can you help to recommend a PSU for me based on this thread?

My desktop is for surfing net and torrent usage. No gaming. Max run from morning until night, no overnight.

Thanks.

Can Antec VP500W power Reference GTX 970 with i5? or need higher wattage like FSP Hexa+ 550W?
*
More than enough, though a higher quality unit such as Seasonic's M12II 520W is preferable. tongue.gif

Which one to consider antec or fsp?
First time gonna build a rig.
i5-4440, gtx970, 1hdd, 1ssd and 8gb ram
btw, between seasonic s12ii 620W or Antec HGC 520W modular which manufactured by seasonic is better for the price since both units about the same price?
*
It's hard to determine the quality of PSUs without knowing the underlying OEM. icon_idea.gif

Both PSUs you have mentioned above are of excellent quality, though I'm leaning the Seasonic since Antec does not have a distributor here anymore... sweat.gif
Another option you may want to consider:

Seasonic M12II EVO 520 - RM279

This is an improved version of the M12II, and the advantage over the S12II is modular cabling, where you can remove any unused cables from the PSU for easier cable management. icon_idea.gif

Guess imma go with aerocool strike x 500w then.

Just tryin full amd.
*
Seriously, get a proper one like the FSP Hexa+ 550W instead of that Andyson unit. sweat.gif

The StrikeX unit isn't exactly a high quality unit either.

BTW, forget about that Kingston SSD. Kingston has caught red-handed when they swapped the faster Toshiba NAND in favor with a much slower Micron NAND. icon_idea.gif

I'd suggest you to get a SSD from reputable manufacturers, such as Intel, Samsung and Crucial. icon_idea.gif

Note that the APUs are not terribly strong in terms of single-threaded performance. You're better off going a FX setup rather than the APU. APUs are only viable if you intend to game on the integrated graphics chip. icon_idea.gif

The CPU side of the APU is absolute crap once you install a graphic card. Even i3 with graphic card could make it look stupid.

For the love of god, G550M is very close to Seasonic M12 II 520W for the price. Seasonic blows it away.
*
Yup, that's the reason why I'd suggest him to get an i3/i5+discrete card setup or a FX6300/8320E+discrete card instead. sweat.gif

Priced too close to a M12II... laugh.gif

Anyway, forget getting this model, and go straight to a M12II 520W - It has Active PFC, full Japanese caps, and possibly better built. icon_idea.gif

Hi guys, I recently bought the Sapphire 6950 1GB from the ipmart sale. Tried to plug it into my computer and it wouldn't boot up. I think my current power supply is inadequate and i would like to upgrade it. I would like to ask you guys about what power supply unit should I get as i'm not that familiar with PSU's.

Current machine specs and make and model of your PSU? hmm.gif

hi guys....question

what happens if i only require about 550W of power but i get the 750W psu?

Assume the PC will work perfectly fine but does this mean that i would consume more power? and is there any drawback?

will it mean my elec cosumption will go higher?

tq
*
No - in fact your PSU lasts longer as the load will be lower on your PSU. icon_idea.gif

Note that the PSU only draws the power your hardware requires. icon_idea.gif

Guys my Seasonic S12II-620 Watt just dead yesterday all of sudden.

Will need to send it for RMA, the RMA process will take 4-6 weeks time.

Thinking to buy a replacement unit for temporary usage.

Anyone come across with Corsair VS650w PSU?
is the PSU reliable?
or I should go with the higher end model like RM series?
*
The RM series are overpriced and the components are not stellar... might as just well get a Seasonic/Super Flower unit at the same price.. icon_idea.gif

Note that the VS series are pretty much the lowest end Corsairs - they are cheap, though the price tag alone can net you a proper Seasonic unit (which are far superior than the Corsair unit in terms of voltage regulation, ripple suppression and component quality). icon_idea.gif
