Hi guys, my rig is using the specs below. I've been handed down a 1080Ti and would like to ask whether if my current PSU can support it? I read online of mixed reviews on getting a better PSU before using it. To clarify further, there's no issues with my PC with the current specs at the moment.

Intel Core i7-4790|
Asrock H97 Pro 4 |
KINGSTON D3 PC1600 8GB x 3 |
STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING |
Samsung Evo 850 250GB |
WD Blue Desktop 1TB 64M  |
Corsair vs550 PSU

The Corsair VS is a very low end, group regulated unit so a replacement is definitely recommended icon_idea.gif

I see, thank you for the heads up then. Would there be any recommendations that I should go for?

I am seriously considering the Corsair RM850X

It's more than enough to run my rig right?

Asus Prime X470 Pro
Ryzen 5 1600
Radeon RX6600XT
3pc 120mm fans
2pc 80mm fans
1pc 200mm fan
1 5.25" BD-ROM drive
1 5.25" card reader
1 3.5" mechanical drive
2 2.5" SATA SSD

Plenty, even if you go for a high end GPU in the future icon_idea.gif

I currently have a 550w 80+ bronze psu. Planning to upgrade to a 4070 which doesn't draw more than 200w at load for gaming (based on benchmarking videos).
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-4070.c3924

Please advise whether Im being stupid or not over this?

Exact make and model of the PSU itself? hmm.gif
A 4070 isn't a power demanding GPU, so a 550W unit is plenty sufficient provided that it's a quality unit icon_idea.gif

Dont look at the TDP on paper, real world measurement a 4070 "eats" nearly 50% more

user posted image

This not yet factored in transient spikes, and depending on which CPU & other components. Even a decent 13500 system will overload a 550W PSU once it PL2 turbo for 60 secs.

The transient power spikes of a 4070 isn't as much as you think:

If you are only gaming a 550W unit is going to be fine for a 4070, as long as it's a quality unit icon_idea.gif

That depends on the load, as power consumption of modern CPUs in gaming is actually quite low (compared to the rated TDP), unless you are talking about very intensive, multithreaded workloads (like 3D work) icon_idea.gif

Outside the V650 V2, these two units aren't even good units to begin with sweat.gif

It suddenly blew up. I'm a bit dissappointed, i thought fsp is very reliable. Hydro G pro atx 3.0 is really a good balance in connectors.

All brands, even good ones can have faulty units. My Cooler Master V650 V2 which was a Tier A+ unit ended up faulty within 1 month of use sweat.gif
Eventually the retailer did a full refund sweat.gif
