s2110 owner here.. hmm battery life for me its good... can watch 2 dvd before it died on me.... max usage for assignments( compiling codes and doing report) 3:55 minutes ( but din use USB mouse ) .. I notice once u plug in something to the USB then the battery wil drain very fast...

For the infra red... go to control panel -> wireless link.

happy with the screen.. bloody good... can say the best i have seen.

unhappy with the cover, fingerprints dont look nice on the cover. Heat when playing games haha.

other wise a true value price lifebook from fujitsu.. upgrade to 1 gb RAM and everything works fine..and portable enouf to carry around.

any fujitsu laptop is good ... and ur dad is right ... from what i have seen and used ... fujitsu is pretty good ...

go shops to checkout the prices of the models ... or go website see the models u wanna look for first..

diff models fit diff type of ppl ... some look for small and lightweight laptops for carrying around (P series i think or S series)... some dont mind big and bulky with lotsa features (C series i think) ....

every series is aimed at diff kind of ppl ... so just see which one u prefer only ...

to eelyn,

u know.. i think when someone is new to notebooks , meaning a first time buyer of notebooks ( just like me a month back) , its important to get a good and branded notebook so that you will not be dissapointed in it and thus leads towards the condemnation of notebook brands and stuff. Sometimes it just frustrates you to see that you new lappie just dissapoionts u...

Well first rule, you always get what you pay for. Never think anything that is cheap will be as good. As the prices often reflects the amount of effort put in by the manufacturers. Lets pick a few instances,

1) DELL - Competitive price with high specs, almost match a desktop, however , u must realize that this means a little less effort on mayb testing out the products before marketing them, less effort in designing the whole notebook that mayb results in more heat. Thus the failure rate, or more accurate the defect rate of the notebook tends to be higher. Ppl might say they have good after sales service, but come on, who wans to pay 4-5k to get headaches. But still there are ppl going for it as they are one of the most competitive in pricing and specs. most customers are willing to gamble on their luck to get a trouble free notebook as failure rate quite high.

Toshiba - Use to be da best. However a drop in quality since a few years back as they are no longer manufactured in Japan, meaning quality control aint what it used to be. But still rest assured that you are getting a top notch notebook. My brother has one for ages...still working but then he just bought a new fujitsu.

Fujitsu - Well for a newbie like me, i never tot of Fujitsu before as the price tag often put off buyers. However, it seems like they changed their pricing recently. All Fujitsu's are manufactured in Japan and every single aspect is tested out before marketing the product.. Failure rates are very low.. Niche market... i am using S2110 the value priced lifebook from fujitsu and am really happy with the quality.. you won regret it.

IBM - The most solid notebook u can find around. Intel personels have one each. very durable. almost the same description as fujitsu.

ACER - taking the market by storm.. onli happen twice... once with DELL and now ACER. However due to mass production, quality might be a bit compromise. Due to their fight with DELL, both have been offering lower and lower prices... thus cheaper and less durable components and casing. Offers up to 3 years warranty to gain consumer trust on their product.

Sony - Cool design.. Nice integrated webcam. Cool software for it. Quality wise, its good.

Hp/Compaq - Erm never had experience with them

Twinhead - Had a pentium 3 that lasted until it was stolen.. It was ok ...but still had it send for warrantycoz the HDD broke down.

Well conclusively, what i wanted to say is, for first time laptop buyer , just find something that will not give u any trouble , preferably a Toshiba,Fujitsu,IBM or a Sony... Its always your decision to choose what u wan.. this is just my 2 cents.

I never understand the hassle of paying 4-5k or mayb more and having to repair it in the near future. For branded notebooks, mayb you pay more for the peace of mind. Anyway, having a branded laptop is also like a status symbol. Nowadays u carry a DELL or Acer, ppl won even notice (its embedded in ppls mind that they are cheap). U carry something like an IBM or FUjitsu or Toshiba, well u try to look at their reaction. Just like someone driving a proton and mayb a honda? or mayb a BMW...

Cheerio

p/s : Get a Fujitsu... it will rock our world...
