Hi there, i m asking for my company. My company is going to buy a new computer/desktop in order to run CostX programme which will handle autocad 2011 drawing file for calculations. smile.gif Its better to get from dell or hp small business deals (as their provide good after sales service whenever the computer is faulty or not running well) blink.gif If possible, provide 2 build. 1 from those dell or hp big company. Another one from pc shop (viewnet) where i will send the spec to lenovo to get quotation. Budget should be around RM3k. Peripherals like mouse and keyboard is needed nod.gif

Below are the recomended requirements that they given us
- Microsoft Excel 2007
- Windows 7 64 bit
- Processor i5 750 2.67GHz
- Nvidia 260 GTX
- 4GB ram
- if can get SSD, then its better
- Wheel mouse
- 24"inch LCD (better get LED screen) or if 2 nos of 19 inch monitor, whichever is cheaper
- minimum DPI is 96
- Resolutions
-widescreen monitor (16:9) or (16:10), 1680 x 1050 or higher
- standard monitor (5:4) or (4:3), 1280 x 1024 or higher

for OC, unless you know what youre doing, better dont risk it. OC kills the parts lifespan but of course boost its performance. like for example, your CPU and GPU getting old and you want more juice out of it. so you OC them to boost their clock speed so that they can run future games at slightly more FPS.

reputable ones would be Viewnet, All IT and Jayacom i guess. if for online in Garage Sales, can go for IdealTech. i got my parts there biggrin.gif

my monitor i suggest will be 1920x1080p brows.gif
maybe Dell U2312HM RM589 or LG IPS224T RM419? both are IPS panel displays which have better colour production and wide viewing angles than the standard TN panels
*
Right! In a nut shell tech-noobies like me should stay off OC the processors right?
Will definitely looked up on your suggestions bro!

I suppose they have advisors like in the shops right? Maybe might have to scale down the budget abit if my
parents aren't that happy with the pricing sad.gif

Normally how long would it take them to assemble all the parts together? Also do i have to worry anything
about the BIOS?

nope, you can always learn to OC and about OC stuff also
but if you want your PC parts to last long, of course avoid OCing
but its subjective though, with good cooling systems, mild OC can last nearly as long as stock CPUs

err.. their advisors are unreliable. cause since theyre running a shop, they might intro parts that are not recommended as they dont want to keep old and obsolete products

as for the time for parts assembling, it depends. if they dont have alot of other jobs, should be fast.

generally, the standard BIOS should be fine. nothing to tweak or change around.

Right! Then again what about the warranties? only tied by the vendor itself only right?
I have a list of viewnet's product from here http://www.viewnet.com.my/downloads/viewne...y_pricelist.pdf
so is it safe to say any components not listed in it could be potentially obsolete products?
Now u reminded me of such scam's i'd might be worried up a little sad.gif

warranties by the brand manufacturers. but you can return the faulty products to the shop for warranty purposes

not really, there are alot of products types available in the pricelist but also not recommended. like the Cooler Master PSUs, not recommended but its being sold at Viewnet.

if you dont trust Viewnet, you can always opt for other shops in this forum. try PM lingloong, zhen^wei, CyntrixTech, yoongkeen etc for help. they have a physical shop too, just not in Lowyat Plaza

They are vendors as well? In your opinion it's preferable to perform transactions with them as towards shops in lowyat?

good GPU with a good CPU

for example
Intel Core i5 + GTX670 = good
Intel Core i3 + HD7970 = bad
Intel Core i7 + HD7770 = bad

i3 is a dual core with Intel Hyper Treading technology, good for casual users who does not need to do powerful CPU processes
i5 is a quad core without Hyper Threading technology, good for not-too-intensive CPU processes
i7 is a quad core with Hyper threading technology, good for CPU intensive processes

anyways, just read up at Ark Intel, theyll provide better information than mine. a simple google will provide a better one too lol

You better deal with companys directly rather than asking here, if you want guideline

- Microsoft Office (YES)
- Windows 7 64 bit (YES)
- Processor i5 3rd Gen such as i5 3450,i5 3470 or better
- Nvidia GC lowest rank
- 4GB ram or more
- SSD
- Wheel mouse
- 24"inch LCD (better get LED screen)

IMHO the build is solid already for your budget, unless you add more $$$, it is not possible to up another spec without sacrificing other components

Hey guys, would like to seek some advices/opinions here. My friend is asking me to suggest a rig to him for work, entertainment and some light gaming. Below are the specs that i have in mind base on Viewnet's price list.

CPU: i5 3470 - RM564 / i3 3220 - RM349
Motherboard: Gigabyte B75M-D3V - RM224
Memory: Kingston DDR3 4GB - RM60
GPU: Sapphire 6850 1GB - RM349 / Sapphire 7770 1GB - RM399
Hardi Disk: Western Digital Blue 1TB - RM214
PSU: Silverstone Strider 500W - RM219
Optical Drive: Liteon - RM60
Casing: Cooler Master range - budget RM150
Monitor: Dell ST2320L - RM469
Input Devices: MS Wireless Desktop - RM85

Total: RM2394 (i5) / RM2179 (i3)

Is this built okay? Here's some of my concerns.
(i) Is the i3 3220 sufficient for normal work usage, cause he may be using applications like autocad and photoshop, or the i5 is the way to go?
(ii) On GPU, if just for light gaming purposes, should I just stick with the old generation 6850 or the newer 7770? Based on benchmarks the 6850 is generally better than the 7770 and the price is lower as well. Is the 6850 a good choice here?
(iii) Is there any cheaper PSU recommendations based on Viewnet's price list with relative good performance?

Would like to keep the price as low as possible as well, if possible within RM2.4k. Comments/advices are appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions, msi should be the better choice. On the psu, is it available in viewnet? Didn't saw it in the price list.
