go for q16 quadcore 16gb.

u will not regret pay a bit more for bigger memory which is required for some apps.

Hi,

I'm just looking to hook up my external media storage (external hdd, flash drive, memory card) to play their content mainly videos followed by image files.

Can you recommend a model?

Thanks.
*
Thank you for inquiry. To give you better recommendation, would be appreciated if you could share what is the video file format or audio codec.

With that, to which of your product line will you recommend - Q16, H8, Q5II, Q6II?
*
We always recommend Q16 quad core, if you have budget constraint then you could choose H8.

i just installed n tried kodi 14.0 helix (official, not beta or rc).
http://kodi.tv/download/

interesting... my findings so far:

.. this version, setting with mediacodec acceleration on for himedia q16 (should be same for q5iii, q5ii) was fine, unlike previous versions. so, that's very good! nb: this aspect is irrelevant for for other brand devices.
.. works better for bbts - skysports
.. works good with ilive-livestreams - skysports, skynews, cnn, bloomberg
.. works fine with abemin's livestreamspro - supersports, foxsports
.. works good with xbmctorrent - eztv, kickass, yify
.. no good with genesis - think genesis is down or got clipped like mashup?

so, all is good, well done kodi! thumbup.gif will see what they come up with for kodi 14.1.

actually, for me, kodi is now more for live tv streams - news and sports. vod movies n tv series, i m better off with popcorn and showbox. wink.gif

You still having problem with Genesis?

I just tested mine yesterday. Seems to be ok.

Genesis and 1Channel still holds more varieties of shows compare to popcorn n showbox. Right now I am more fond of Genesis. 1Channel for some reason has become superslow and their media has become super low quality 70% of the time.

haven't been using kodi much! biggrin.gif i use popcorn and showbox more these days....

just a side remark... esp for those who have q5ii and thinking of going q16 but reluctant to "waste" q5ii:

i now have q16 and q5ii connected to same tv.
q5ii wireless for showbox (dunno why ethernet cannot) and astro-on-the-go (it can't work on q16).
q16 ethernet for everything else - popcorn, hitv, pudding, kodi, etc...

both used, not wasted. tongue.gif

astro otg you need a package to watch right?

right now i am also using two device, q5ii and x8h. q5ii is to watch really large files movies. kodi n regular movies all via x8h. My q5ii is behaving very funny with xbmc lately more then usual, so i stop using it.

I have installed IDST Monster Pro (Trial Version) life TV app on my Q16, but after a few times of switching to different TV channels, the screen stop responding, unable to use the remote to select channels or other options, worse more, the screen pop-up "Monster Pro Trial isn't responding, do you want to close it" window, and I have to close it, restart the box, everytime can only last for few time of channel switching, not sure what was wrong, anyone tried this app before? I thought my Q16 is a quad-core device which should be able to support the life TV app ...Need advise. Thank you.
