Hi all! I've been using IKEA kitchen for the past 4 years and I find one thing sorely lacking....the monopoly of a not-so-friendly company called CT Art for IKEA kitchen cabinets' installations. It seems only CT Art is able to cut the worktops and plinths and do the necessary fittings of sinks and cooking stoves. None of the outside contractors are willing or able to do it. So now...after 4 years, when I want to change the worktops and plinths due to wear and tear, I am stuck! CT Art charges MYR 80 per meter for worktop installation alone! A d it is even more expensive what they charge to cut the openings for the sinks and stove. Sigh... vmad.gif

Hi Alvin, would you able to claim FAKTUM kitchen 25 years guarantee?
I just wonder how the guarantee works, if only cover defects and workmanship, wouldn't the problem surfaced much earlier? rather than up to 25 years?????

I am convinced that I want an IKEA kitchen, mainly because the blum drawers that come with Faktum are relatively cheaper then the what is priced by outside KC makers (some quote me RM1,000 for 1 set) and more importantly, because of the more generous depth, I get an extra 16% storage capacity.

However, I am still not making a decision because of the counter height.  The faktum skirting is standard at 16 cm, which would make the cabinet height at 90 cm which was too high for me.

I will have to track down the installer to see if they can help me with a 10 cm or 11 cm skirting.

Generally, I would say, if all you want to fit all your kitchen base cabinets with blum drawers, go for IKEA because they would offer a cheaper deal, even if you have to pay for the installation.

Hi Lizzie, do you manage to find a solution for the shorter plinth? I am in the same dilemma as you too.

I had DIYed an IKEA kitchen cabinet... less than RM3k. All it takes is some interest to build the kitchen yourself biggrin.gif and the rest are guided by IKEA DIY guide. Saved around RM1k of installation & assembling fees + gained lots of satisfaction wink.gif

Hey mate, it took me about 5 weekends to complete, doing it leisurely on my own sweet time. I did made quite a few blunders in between (e.g. getting wall plugs from hardware, buying silicons, tools, etc.. ) and spent some time over it.

Ikea quoted me RM900 for the installation. It depends on the size of your kitchen and whether you require additional accessories installation (e.g. sink, oven, etc.) Can always check with their kitchen staff (need to make appointment probably 1/ 2 hours earlier) to get their advice.

Another thing i like about IKEA is their product return policy. After the installation, I found that some parts are not really necessary (e.g. too many cabinet door dampers & shelves) and I just returned it (with original packaging) within 100 days and they refunded without asking any question.

Drill, hammer, jig saw are must. You can refer to guide DIY as follow

IKEA Kitchen DIY Guide

I follow through the installation process based on this.

You can also try google up their Youtube video, very comprehensive.

For me I don't mind spend a little bit on these tools since i need it anyway when putting up mirrors, curtains, racks, pics, lightings etc. ...
Not cheap at all to get someone at Klang Valley area to put on some screws and nails on our wall wink.gif

Cut it myself... and infact I think that is the hardest part cos that piece of worktop is really thick. Took some patience to cut the hole (I wonder how they do for those granite worktop.... )

Hey guys, I'm currently designing my kitchen using Ikea's designer tools. But I couldn't find any base cabinets for the hob. Do I just pick any base cabinets and they will cut a hole? And where do we store the gas tank?

Appreciate if anyone with experience could give some input biggrin.gif

Hm you should go over and make inquiry. I'm using a set of FAKTUM base cabinets and as I recall some degree of customisation can be done but not much. The hole you'll need to cut for the hob is on the counter top - that can be done i think.
As for gas tank i think you wanna place it on a tiled base rather than on the cabinet base?

And the customisation would be inclusive of the total price I presume? And yes, didn't think about the base for the gas tank. Guess I will have to pay them a visit. Thanks!

Hi guys,
Any advice how do I plan my KC with IKEA? Should I design my KC myself using the designer's tools? Or should I go to the IKEA store and get their advice?
Clueless of how to start.
Thanks.
