I am convinced that I want an IKEA kitchen, mainly because the blum drawers that come with Faktum are relatively cheaper then the what is priced by outside KC makers (some quote me RM1,000 for 1 set) and more importantly, because of the more generous depth, I get an extra 16% storage capacity.
However, I am still not making a decision because of the counter height. The faktum skirting is standard at 16 cm, which would make the cabinet height at 90 cm which was too high for me. I will have to track down the installer to see if they can help me with a 10 cm or 11 cm skirting. Generally, I would say, if all you want to fit all your kitchen base cabinets with blum drawers, go for IKEA because they would offer a cheaper deal, even if you have to pay for the installation. |

I dont ever want to go back to the old days of squatting in front of the cabinet, moving things out to access the things I have stored at the back, or keeping things at the back and never to see them again.Installing drawers will ensure that you get to use 100% of the storage space. True, you cannot use the outside accessories such as chorme trays for sauces, but I suppose u could go for the 30 cm cabinet with drawers? Other than that, I do not think the IKEA accessories are worse off comparatively. On a positive note, you can add on more accessories from the IKEA store if you had installed an ikea kitchen!!! IKEA cabinet capacity is 15% more than the outside cabinets. If we are short of space, this is an important consideration. |

is it possible to have outside KC makers build carcasses to the size similar to Ikea's so we could use their drawers system?

QUOTE(idoblu @ Jun 11 2013, 09:12 AM) is it possible to have outside KC makers build carcasses to the size similar to Ikea's so we could use their drawers system? The ikea carcass is 58 cm deep. Most KC supplier offer shallow ones, like 52 cm to 55 cm.The real issue is the counter top. Because the IKEA carcass is deeper, the counter top is 62 cm deep. Not sure if u can get outside supplier for 62 cm depth counter top. I asked a supplier at the recent homedec he look quite blur.. True that outside kc would give more choices. That was an issue I thought hard about. Because I need so much storage, I concluded that the extra storage was more important for me.. Of course, now I need to solve my skirting height problem. |

What kind of counter top are you thinking of getting That can't customize the depth that you want?
Also what's wrong with the skirting height? I'm thinking of using ikea base cabinet and get caesarstone quartz counter top from outside This post has been edited by idoblu: Jun 11 2013, 10:45 PM |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Jun 11 2013, 10:41 PM) What kind of counter top are you thinking of getting That can't customize the depth that you want? I plan to use solid surface. IKEA SS cost between RM260 to RM300+. Outside if you buy the local SS can get for RM150 there about. But, I ask the shop, they do 60 cm only. I suppose if you want 62 cm, you will have to pay more (hopefully abit more and round up to the nest 150 cm)Also what's wrong with the skirting height? I'm thinking of using ikea base cabinet and get caesarstone quartz counter top from outside The skirting (called the plinth) is standard for IKEA at 16cm. Add the carcass (70 cm) and the counter top (4 cm), the base cabinet will be 90 cm high. My window starts at 90 cm, so this one cannot go. The IKEA option if I want a lower base cabinet is to use the s/s legs which are meant for EXPOSED. I need to ask the installer if they can customise the legs to accomodate a plinth of 10 or 11 cm. |

QUOTE(tiffany&kate @ Jun 11 2013, 11:11 PM) If use IKEA< you need to work out the units you want and cost them one by one. Add side panels, legs, plinth, fillers if needed. Finally estimate the cost of the counter tops (by foot run) and installation (at RM80 per meter of cabinet). For such a big kitchen, the installation would easily be RM2k?If use conventionally kitchen, you can estimate the costs as follows: 1. base nd wall cabinets by using a range of RM200 (melamine) to RM300 (High gloss or better) per foot run of base cabinet. 2. side panels if any (can be about RM200 +/- per piece) 3. Counter top - by foot run if std depth 4. Add drawers - extra cost is charged for drawer sets. If u want blum drawers, add another RM600 to RM1000 per set of 3 (depending on the KC guys - some charge more). 5. Budget about RM500 for installation of hood, hob, sink, etc. 6. budget cost for hood hob, sink, tap nd build in oven if any. A big kitchen like yours can cost you anything from 20k to even more than the cost of a myvi depending on your materials and KC maker chosen chosen... |

The legs can raise up or lower down from 14.5cm to 18.5cm but your plinth may need to be cut. If its under 16cm. Anyway this is not a problem cause the solid surface don't come in 4cm thickness. Their thickness should be about 12mm or so. You can make it look like 4cm thick because it's just a side profile..(see pic below) Dunno if you get what I mean. For depth I'm sure you can get deeper than 60cm for Corian. Mine even got a bit of backsplash. According to their website, their standard depth is 76cm - http://www2.dupont.com/Surfaces_Commercial...atalog_2010.pdf The other thing you got to worry about is if the SS can just sit on top of ikea's base cabinet without a piece of underlying plywood. What color solid surface do you plan for? Not worth to get local ones for rm150pfr. I got my white color Corian for about Rm180 (5yrs ago). Try calling this guy - Stuart @ H/P : 016-3398527, Their website : www.tsigm.com Btw darker colors always shows scratch marks ![]() This post has been edited by idoblu: Jun 23 2013, 06:36 AM |

Morning all,
I plan to install IKEA KC as well as I love the ability to add the accessories inside as and when I want to add them. To those who installed IKEA KC, can we use concrete base for the lower cabinet? In IKEA Kitchen Planner, by default the base are legs and wooden plinths. This post has been edited by cameiux: Jun 15 2013, 09:51 AM |
