I found out that Agoda lies on the 50% discounted price promotion, the original price in Agoda is double up from the original hotel price.

marketing gimmick.
mostly sale in the supermarket also the same. they mark up the price then offer 70% discount.
customers will be cheated in thinking that they got a bargain but instead they are actually buying at the actual price.

I think I know what u mean. Anyway, They (not only Agoda. All others as well) are refering the discount on the hotel published RACK rate & not the hotel own online promo rate .. That's why i said earlier sometime you can actually book cheaper direct from the hotel if the hotel runs their own online promo but if you walk-in you will see the rack rate published in the hotel is ridicolous high i. e double or even 180% higher than agoda or any other booking sites

People always thought that it is discount price without do some survey first

Yes, i checked the price direct to the hotel website is more cheaper. Found out Expedia is price also better, is Expedia reliable?

That's why sometime, hotel website can be cheaper as they also trying to get online customers badly rather than selling to those booking sites. However if you walk-in to the hotel, you can't get that online price for sure Normally the walk-in rate is >100% higher. and thuse those booking sites can give up to 70% discount one the walk-in rate ...Sometime I do book direct to the hotel when I compare their online price wth those booking sites (Not necessary agoda)

I have not use expedia.. they normally more expensive from what I checked but they are well known worldwide.

Expedia was on the same level as Agoda and Booking.com.

I see some travel hotel booking websites also give facility to pay on counter after finalizing your booking dates...

Really depending on the promo of the travel agent websites. You really need to do your own comparison. Anyway, Most travel agencies in M'sia do not give a good discount compare with thoe oversea booking agents/websites such as agoa, booking.com or even hotel.com
