Tried the i5-3317u (3g) variant already in Singapore.. The device is pretty awesome! The palm rest is made of plastic but the whole thing is pretty sturdy... The keyboard buttons were not as good as Samsung's standard ones... But are still okay. Would be good if they have much better travelling depth and pressure points.. But I guess its too much to ask for lol XD

The stylus pen is really impressive as well~ works splendidly just like the one I have on my note and note 2
Definitely the hybrid ultrabook to buy! If only I have the money

not bad, but i5 version too expensive =.=

Well, the i5 version is an Ultrabook, and it's close to the price of one as well.

but without keyboard already 3.6k ~.~

Ordered local distributor via my company. They told me it will be available in the market very soon, told them i cant wait so i ordered one for me.

what a let down... the keyboard should come together in one package...

really a let down, now i have to fork out extra 400++ for the keyboard. All this while I thought its one package.

i am still waiting for asus tablet or ultrabook like taichi, asus transformer book before decide.....hopefully the price is good enuff..

Secondly, the keyboard is just that.. a keyboard, no extra battery or anything like that so you could just use any other BT keyboard with it, it's just more convenient if you use theirs I supposed. Although given that it's too light weight, I'd think that you can't properly use the Ativ with it's keyboard on your lap cause it'd be too easy to tip over.

i read the samsung fb website and there was one guy got hold one of the ativ. He said he bought it from low yat, not sure true or not...

Samsung website kind of misleading, probably I was too excited that I didnt complete my full spec search.

I took matters in my own hand and directly call samsung call centre 1800-88-9999 . They confirm that keyboard is an OPTIONAL ITEM.

So, those who are getting cheaper during promotion RM 3599.00 with keyboard, it's your lucky day.

Why is there no review, or even a hands-on for the 700T version anywhere in the whole internet? (aside from demo units I mean)

The release date in US was supposed to be 26th of October, yet nothing on it, either the system has performed disappointingly in sales or the release date was incorrect or/and the system has been delayed...

Now I am interested to know that whether this device comes with the keyboard dock or not for 3.6k here, if it does, well it means the price is on par with the US version, otherwise, it would feel like a rip-off.

The brochure specified the weight is 800++g only. By right with the keyboard it should have been 800+800= 1.6++ kg in total.

yah... another bad thing.... but now no other choices.... the xps12 look really fugly and Asus havent come out with its i5 processor tab yet. Acer seem to have Atom only for now.

I feel your frustration.

It's just a guess but being top heavy *should* mean that you can't use the Ativ on your lap very well. It's just something you should be aware of if you plan to use it that way.

My work is on the go between my companies, so Im willing to compromise. Plus the weight ratio of keyboard to screen is 1:1, so I believe it would still work on an angle.

I reckon the Pro version uses the same connector as the normal Smart PC mode. Heads-up for potential buyers.

My recently sold Asus Transformer Infinity is weight-ratio-ed 1:1 as well between the tablet and keyboard, and beyond 90 degrees, the laptop configuration (tablet+keyboard) will have the tendency to topple backwards. On the Android OS it's running on, you mostly tap instead os swipe gestures on Windows 8. I'd foresee the swipe-up/down gestures on an over-tilted Smart PC Pro having similar tendencies to topple backwards as well.

I've tested the Pro model at LowYat Plaza's Windows 8 roadshow and it does show tendencies to topple backwards. Which is why at the roadshow, the unit was left on a slanted platform so as to NOT show this tendency much.

I was as excited as the next person when they announced it, I stayed up and followed the event announcement live. My interest was deflated when I saw the plastic build quality(made more evident at the roadshow on the silver color model), and the thickness of the tablet part disproportionate compared to the keyboard. I'd be more forgiving if the keyboard part has batteries on it, that will help extend the battery life and keep the whole laptop config (tablet+keyboard) center-weighted to avoid the toppling back.

The rest is history. If anyone follows the thread I made in this part of the forum, they'll know which hybrid I went for.

i am waiting for online review on the smart pro to go in further.... so far i was really impress by the sony duo 11..... it change my view on the tab though the weight is still a let down.

Maybe need to wait till Asus to come out with transformer to show the world how to make a tablet that can detach.

I have a Transformer Infinity before. It's light at 580g on both ends but it still has tendencies to tilt back depending on how angled back the screen is. I have not had any problems with the 128GB SDXC slotted into the keyboard side of the Infinity separated away from the tablet side, but talking from past experience on Windows devices, pulling external storage device without safely removing it would sometimes result in corrupted data. If you're just using the keyboard part as a keyboard I don't see any issue. But from the previous post I quoted, it sounds like the connecting mechanism is loose. Making that constant connect-reconnecting wear a heavy toll on anything connecting via the keyboard side, or even the keyboard itself. I ended up not removing the Infinity from its keyboard dock, and the "detach keyboard to make lighter" advantage doesn't really become advantageous at all.

I also have issues with the build quality, I have the SGS3 so I know how fond Samsung is with plastic. I don't mind much with plastic IF the processor running runs cool. SoCs running on SGS3 is low powered hence running cooler. Imagine your Intel Core i5 running in thin plastic enclosure. Recipe for disaster in the long run? There's a reason why most thin Ultrabooks uses aluminum/metal chassis.

You try first. Have a hands-on and see if you like it. Especially the tilt/top-heavyness.

As for me pushing my laptops, I'd like to see what it can do. If you're not using it to its potential, why bother getting the Core i models? Might as well get any Atom models and be done with. At the current state of Windows Store apps, I'd avoid Windows RT altogether. The next question would be balancing battery life to what you prefer. Want power? Battery life sacrificed. Want battery life? Less power. Depending on what you're using it as, that'll determine which device you'd go for.

Oh yes, saw your thread. You chosed sony right? I got the chance to view & play it. I only wish the keyboard was detachable. My only issue was it wasnt easy fr me to slide out the keyboard & i have to position the tablet couple of times to get the right view (eg. Lanscape to potrait & vice versa)

Looking back, still upset with samsung over couple of issue that pop up after i placed my order. But again, will post my review once i get to play with it.

man i think i wanna buy the smart pc pro . but the harddisc is a bit little . i wonder in future can upgrade or else ..

It come with one USB 3.0 port, get either a 1TB or 2TB USB HDD will address this "matter" besides microSD slot

I hope to fix to top heaviness by finding someway to weigh down the keyboard, the main reason I decided to go for the Samsung is that I want something with a silo for the digitizer built in. Of course after you mentioned it, the Sony also has a way to store th digitizer with the extended battery. But i prefer wacom to N-Trig whenever possible. The AAAA battery is a real turn off!

-Micro SDXC(max out at 64GB) on ATIV versus Full SDXC on Duo(max out at 128GB)
-Ethernet port on Duo versus none on the ATIV
-No GPS on ATIV versus GPS on Duo.
-Wacom stylus 1024 pressure levels on ATIV versus N-trig 256 pressure levels on Duo.
-Windows 8 Pro on ATIV versus Windows 8 on Duo
-Parity on screen resolution, storage capacity, processor performance, although graphics capability based on WEI, Duo has the upper hand.
-Heavier on the Duo (1.3kg) coz cant separate the keyboard versus lighter on the ATIV(888gm) coz separatable keyboard.

I'm interested to hear about the supposed 8 hour battery life on something of this thickness. Video playback claimed at 5 hours though.

I guess it boils down to what you can and cant live without. I'm not big on being an artist, occasional doodling is fine with me. If actual digital artistry is your forte, then the Wacom-collaborated stylus and Samsung's suite of programs would be enough to sway you over.

I would not comment any more on the top-heaviness since to some it's an acceptable tradeoff. Nor would I comment on the build quality, since to some the design is subjective (hey, some do love plastic!) and therefore are not comparable.

Personally to me, the full size HDMI and full size SDXC card support is important to me. I don't have the cables dangling at awkward angle on the Duo (versus the mini HDMI that slots on the side, dangling precariously). Full SDXC card supports up to 128GB and bigger sized SD cards appears earlier on the full size ones than the smaller sized microSDXC, and cheaper too. Already on my Duo it has 256GB storage, 128GB built in, 128Gb SDXC card. I don't take pictures with my Duo so the back low res camera isn't a dealbreaker for me, so if you are the type that uses your tablet to take pics then the 5MPx back camera on the ATIV may come in handy. Although you can only do much on a tablet camera.

Again, it all boils down to what you prefer. A laptop that turns into a tablet in a pinch, versus a tablet that turns into a laptop in a pinch.

Please test the ergonomics (touch/swipe, does the ATIV wobbles backward) and build quality (body gets hot, all hardware on tablet side, body made of plastic, body heats up, plastic may warp when hot). I'm fond of the choices of form factor you get, but these two issues kept me from picking the ATIV.

Yeah, it's great that we have choices on what kinda design and hardware we're looking for in the PC world.

8 hours battery life... Personally I think I'd nail it at 5 hours actual usage, video playback time would depend on a variety of factors, bitrate, hardware decoding availability, etc. etc.

After I found out the extended battery had a digitizer silo I wanted to go for the Sony too but I couldn't due to some personal reasons.

I doubt it's the msian version. The one i tried at harvey norman has USIM slot beside the micro SD slot. Just slot in nano (??) sim card. And the tablet is in silver colour. I remember the sale gals mentioned samsung sent the wrong model, in black colour, to them and the silver ones should be the correct model.

It looks like that Sony offers a higher performance product to Samsung for less, which is rather... strange.

Anyway, I find this to be a rip-off when compared to its price in US. I somehow only find a few companies here like Apple, WD, etc, to offer product prices comparable to their US counterparts.

I have to say though, if you're not very keen or impatient to get one of these early "hybrids", wait for Surface Pro; it seems to be the best option so far announced in this category.

Can't confirm until i got hold one of it. But 2 things i keep asking harvey norman's before preorder via them: whether ativ has keyboard and 3g connectivity included in the price? Their answer is Yes.

Pre-ordered mine from Harvey-Norman (thanks in part to the extra warranty they promised). They said that the keyboard dock is included, and a variety of online stores here are saying the dock is included as well. Did the guy who bought from Lowyat get ripped off? Who knows, we'll have to wait and see for another week or so.
