ohmy.gif I didn't know this IEM is still alive!

But it's truly a gem. None of the current XBA or those fancy hybrid drivers line up could truthfully compete against this, in term of sound clarity.

Despite what some unscrupulous sellers will try to tell you, it is very much still in production, only in limited markets. I was more surprised people are still making accessories for these though, i really have to try it with 4.4 sometime smile.gif

recently bought my 1000xm2 from stars picker audio. I'm using oneplus 5, i noticed the bluetooth codec always defaults to LDAC. you can set it to aptxHd but when you reconnect it'll reset to LDAC, are there any stark difference between these two codecs?

IMO for 1000XM2 in particular or any Sony wireless headphones, LDAC will be a better choice if your device supports it. You can read all the mumbo-jumbo here.

I think you need a 3.5mm Female to 2 Male Headphone Mic Audio Y Splitter Cable. I suspect the headphone jack of your PC doesn't support 4-position 3.5mm with mic input.

You should be able to use mic with Bluetooth, but I’m not familiar with how the sound quality goes with Windows.

Sony SS-CS5.

Yes, Sony.
Wait, what? SONY?! DAFUQQQ!@#*()&!@$?!!!
Yes I said Sony. The SS-CS5 is a freaking hidden gem and actually beats the Q Accoustics 3020 (I have them both) in several areas. It's also, much cheaper. Only RM699 (that's like nearly half-off the 3020) at Sony KLCC, stocks are extremely limited btw.

The CS5 has a more dynamic punch, a wider soundstage and the peaks at the treble is also noticeably more energetic to me than the QA3020. The mids are sort of a stalemate between the 2 though, the CS5 is more neutral with better detail retrieval but at times can sound kind of mellow. The QA3020 has slight bit more forward presentation with a bit of fatigue and perhaps a better sense of grunt when transitioning from the mid-lows.
As for the bottom end, I love both really. They are so clean at the low end that you'd be hard pressed not to like either, the QA3020 is slightly tighter but the CS5 extends lower. That said, neither distorts at high volume which is the most important thing.

If there is a downside to the CS5 vs the QA3020 is that the CS5 is waaaay bigger in size (and also heavier), so placement CAN be a problem.

So yeah, the price being the main factor... RM700 vs RM1500 (or somewhere there). The Sony sounds like a no brainer to me especially when it actually beats the twice as expensive 3020 in several areas, or otherwise matching it in most.

Go take a listen, I guarantee you'll be surprised by the CS5. Sony is one of those companies who makes a lot of "looks first, everything else second" junk, but once in a while they come up with an absolute gem that they fail to market properly for whatever weird reasons.

P.S. Of which as another example; I'd go slightly off topic and say the Sony MA-900 is another sorely missed gem as I think Sony hasn't made a headphone as good as that yet.

As a Mk1 user, the XM2 being RM600 cheaper will be much better value. That said, you are getting that extra bit of SQ and NC by paying more for the latest electronics. I'm also eagerly waiting to see the local pricing for XM3.

just checked sony website, they are taking pre-orders for RM 1599 giving away together with bluetooth speaker worth RM 429. Worth the consideration though.

Did anyone receive this email - some new IEM were launched recently and i wasn't even aware of it.
Thought they already launched all their new electronics in IFA this year.

Only available to view in the US version of the website

https://www.sony.com/electronics/in-ear-hea...1L1PAUDMOREINFO

Three IEMS:
IER-Z1R $2,299
IER-M7 $1,499
IER-M9 $799

They seemed to be studio monitors so I guess they focus more on accurate reproduction, not sure it will appeal to casual music fans.
