Correction: "Most of the current and newer speakers can easily meet those certification, thus manufactureres and I guess in our topic's case, cinema chains, save costs by not getting that qualification from THX.

Haha that's my sentiment in my previous posts when comparing IMAX vs other PLFs here in Malaysia. It all depends on the film's technical specs. If the film is only 2.39:1 aspect ratio and is mostly audio mixed for Dolby, best to watch is Dolby halls. If there's a film specifically made for IMAX, and IMAX holds exclusivity for taller aspect ratios scenes of the film, then IMAX is the go-to la.

My advice like in my previous posts is to check the imdb and other source outlets to decide whether you would prefer Big/Dolby or IMAX. I mean, IMAX is awesome no matter what, but the price is hard to justify at times.

Ah that's cool, I remembered back when MyTown GSC finally renovated and opened their Big hall, they would play like 4 commercials/demos of their DA prowess before the film. That and many years back, the Maxx DA halls in IOI City Mall would also highlight their speakers, behind the screen and on the ceiling. It was a fun flex haha.

Oh, you don't need to worry about whether the missing "DA" when booking Big/Maxx halls. Honestly, you actually save RM1 Xd. Those movies will still use those speakers and have audio enhancements compared to non-DA halls. I know this because I booked John Wick 4 in MyTown Big DA and they didn't advertise the DA to be there, and yet the speakers were blasting like no man's tomorrow from all direction haha.

Brooo I would kill to have Dolby cinema in Malaysia (Dolby Vision and Atmos) the things I read about those halls makes me super envious to the Western movie goers. Unfortunately, the closest to that experience we have in Malaysia is Tropicana Gardens' GSC Onyx DA. I will have to visit this hall in the near future to judge the speaker quality (last time I was there was for Barbie and the screening had errors so bad, the chain needed to refund all of us ooof. It's an isolated incident so no fret). You can check post #507 for an image of this hall's screen size.

I think they learned from MyTown or IOI City GSC Big Hall

Prior the show begin, when the hall is already dark, the cinema play some sound demo and then will have spot light highlight the location of the installed speakers, including behind the silver screen. Damn cool !!

Ok I have just tried GSC BIG LaLaport BBCC and it is quite comparable to IMAX WIth Laser.
But of course, Dolby Atmos sound is more superior here.
And the best part is that I save RM9 vs IMAX WIth Laser.
Watched DC's Blue Beetle and the sound is really impressive.
But the only thing I hate is the chair, the chair is wide, but that comfortness does not match Dolby Atmos hall at Pavilion BJ.
The screen entahlah, I feel like the same like IMAX Laser, tapi after closely watch, I feel like IMAX Laser more brighter.
Overall satisfied with the screen and sound quality la.
But I won't repeat to go there again, if you know, you know la.

Recently had the chance to go try out GSC Lalaport halls. They are the standard all normal cinema halls needs to follow already. BigScreen was with 4K projector, crisp, sound was good.

But got to agree with you, seats at Pavi Bukit Jalil much comfortable. But eh, the sound in Pavi B.Jalil is good as well! I would still choose GSC Lalaport Bigscreen cz of the bigger screen size vs TGV Pavi B.Jalil.

Yep I agree.
GSC BIG is in another league.
Kinda disappointed that the Atmos hall by TGV Pavillion BJ cannot match the GSC BIG halls in terms of screen size.
But for me I will still go for TGV Atmos hall is just because of the chairs, so damn comfy.

BTW just tried GSC BIG MyTown and honestly that hall is quite impressive.
BIG 4K Laser screen and sound system Dolby Atmos which is fully THX Certified is impressive.
The screen is so big weh, even IMAX Laser feels tiny by comparison.
But the chairs ermmmm still not as good as TGV Pavilion BJ.
It seems MyTown will be my 2nd go to cinema besides Pavilion BJ until GSC launches the GSC BIG hall at IOI City Mall and will see how good the hall there.
So far GSC BIG at MyTown is just impressive and cheaper too.

And yeah what happen to GSC plans at KL East Mall?

GSC BIGG MyTown used to be better back in 2016-2017.

They've already changed their speakers actually, they are no longer JBL Pro speakers for the surround and heights. Therefore it's technically no longer a THX certified setup (not that it matters very much).

They have 4 subs in the hall, but 1 of them busted in 2018 and I pointed it to them because there is a very obvious room null in the G and H rows. Meaning these 2 rows will have uneven bass response and this is only in the middle, it's even worse at the sides because there is too much peak energy there.

Obviously they never do anything because in 2019 GSC monopilize everything. You suka tak suka, you still have to come here anyways. So don't have to give top notch service anymore.

Only appetite for standard IMAX still prefer TGV aeon Tebrau than GSC Mid Valley South

Both mall are 20km each from my house

Which is still dam frustrating considering IMAX is still seasonal 4 me unlike 4DX hahahaha

They did resolve it?
Because I feel the spekers are quite amazing overall.
I sit at row B which the position of the DBOX seats are, I feel quite immersed at that seat.
And the Dbox seats quite comfortable la, tapi not as good as TGV Pavilion BJ level.
And the most important part, way cheaper than IMAX, RM26.50 vs RM35 weh.

I can accept their leather seats, my big ass not as pain

Surprisingly DBOX seats are disabled.
They put it as a Premium Seat in the GSC BIG hall for Malbatt: Misi Bakara.
Yeah I can admit 4DX is really fun.
