Hey Katharsis

my man who keeps the thread running haha...we should catch up la one day for a movie...
BigScreen Lalaport is somewhat similar to Tropicana Gardens Mall in terms of hall size and screen size. Most of the bigscreens we have here are plus minus around there, personally I can't seem to reap any benefit of a screen larger by a few feet. Hall layout, screen distance for immersion and picture quality seems to be winner for me. Like the immersion in TGV 1U for eg, that's def something but picture quality
I guess I'm still disappointed we lost our IMAX BTS from years ago when it comes to screen sizes. Went for a walk to the IMAX/MAXX hall at level 10 last week, right now its being used as a church temporarily but the whole floor seems to be dead! Well at least its being used for a good reason instead of decaying

Off topic, here's a pic from SFX Phuket.... visit during Merdeka, didn't get a chance to watch a movie unfortunately but got myself popcorn and it sucked...

Haha, maybe when TGV Bukit Jalil's IMAX opens up, both of us, if not active members of this thread could meet up at Bukit Jalil Pavilion for a film together. I'm a bit sad that I will likely not be able to experience 70mm IMAX since films using that format is pretty rare nowadays, let alone expensive to upkeep that type of hall. I think the best us Malaysians could get is IMAX GT Laser for a 1.43:1 experience, but doubt it will happen because:
1. I guess the more expensive investment for a IMAX GT laser projector and hall upkeep deters GSC/TGV
2. Most IMAX films are 1.9:1, so having a 1.43:1 screen is not worth it (even the largest IMAX screen in the world located in Germany is 1.9:1)
That said, Sunway Velocity's TGV IMAX is the only hall in Malaysia to have a 1.43:1 screen (1.33:1 to be exact), yet it still uses the Xenon lamp projector, so the screen will never be fully filled. I mean if you already have that screen aspect ratio, why not just upgrade it to IMAX Laser GT? (oh right, money :\)
I hope Bukit Jalil's screen, even if they go with a 1.9:1 screen is equivalent or bigger than I-City. It just better be laser since the standard has increased with GSC introducing IMAX Laser.
