I just tried Atria ONYX, screen size is goddamn small, though it is sharp n crispy

So GSC ONYX is not really bigger as well? And no 2D option?

Big screen wise, has its image quality improved?

I had traumatic experience with GSC Big Screen years ago; damn though it was big, the sharpness was lacking, worst was that it had blur motions

Since that I dun dare to touch big screen til IMAX 2D, which indeed offers great immersive n big screen, but still the picture quality is not crisp n sharp enough too

Damn y dun we have an ONYX hall with IMAX size

GSC doesn't have big screen though..

Regarding the GSC Onyx hall, don't think they will do 2D for now since they advertise it as the first 3D ONYX screen in SEA.
Image quality here.. as you saw I posted, it stuttered when the camera pans. Other than that, I don't think it's that big an improvement if you like larger screens [immersive] like me. Try it out though, if you can go morning, RM13 is a pretty good deal.

TGV IMAX hall is alright if you like huge screens like me.
If you want, can try their Feel the Max that they do twice a month for RM5 [includes a drink]. first half of the movie is in normal hall, 2nd half is IMAX hall.

It was GSC Maxx if I’m not mistaken

Arghh, sad to know that they don’t provide 2D alternative, as I’m glasses, watching 3D is never really fun and enjoyable for me

Probably I can try TGV Maxx, where can I actually find it, as I can’t seem to find it on web

My bad. It's TGV IMAX. I usually go to 1 Utama's one.

Regarding the rm5 tix, it's here.
They will update what movie when it's closer to the dates. Usually about.. a week, I think.

Do note sometimes it's 3D.... the first time i went for the movie Glass, no glasses.
Alita had glasses. rclxub.gif

It MIGHT be that 7pm ones are 3d [alita]
and 2pm ones are not [Glass] but i've only been twice so I can't draw a good conclusion.

Malaysia cinemas are truly just borderline decent only. There's not a single good one, even when it's entirely new.

If we take into account the prices of our tickets, compared to foreign countries, I think it's a pretty good deal.
But then again I didn't watch movies in many countries. Just hearsay from friends of HK and TW.

Care to advise on which countries cinema we should keep an eye out for? Can consider to watch a movie if so happen to holiday there.

Sure, if price IS part of the discussion, nothing beats a dedicated Home Theatre - built from the ground up. But that would be an endless debate, no?

That's why I said borderline decent. I think the local cinemas are charged right, but there can be improvements. Example, do you know that the current GSC Maxx at MyTown has issues with the subs and the ceiling? The ceiling is rattling and it's been that way for over 3 months now - I watched Aquaman in Dec and Cap Marvel yesterday, rattling is STILL there ffs. Oh and the the top right sub (they have 5 subs, 4 on the ceiling) is busted but of course no one knows wtf I'm talking about when I bring it up. doh.gif

As for countries, check the list of Dolby Vision cinemas in the US and the UK. As far as commercial goes, they are the benchmark right now. I happen to travel to Houston Texas often enough (family in law there), so AMC @ Katy Mills or Willowbrook is where I usually go to. The best is apparently the Odeon at Leceister for now, but I've not had the chance to visit it yet.

Guys, is TGV Indulge better or GSC Gold Class?

Planning to catch Avengers Endgame in either one, any recommendations?

(From the photos online - their screens seem really small, compared to GSC Premiere Class in Signature Gardens)

Totally agree with you. Malaysian cinemas are way behind. 4 years ago when I was in India, the major cinema chains were playing movies on 4K projectors. Most of my trips overseas has shown me how far behind our cinemas are. That's why I hope forums like this gain attention of local exhibitors, expose audiences to such matters and promote healthy competition as well. Cheers tongue.gif

I did not notice on the MyTown MAXX hall issue when I was there on Feb. I'm always alert of sound distortions actually. Did you manage to raise the issue with the branch manager/technician? I suggest all movie goers to do so the next time you face such situations.

Cinema Hunting Report

One Cinemas Spectrum, Ampang

Its basically just decent. Not satisfied with audio quality though, the rest were borderline fine. A budget cinema option for Ampang folks. Free parking and good popcorn!

Amerin Cineplex, Seri Kembangan

Again no complains. Better surround system in comparison to One Cinemas. Popcorn was decent. Another budget option as well.

Hunting Soon: Bona Cinemas, Genting & TGV Central i-City, Shah Alam rclxm9.gif

MBO is at least taking the initiative to make better cinema halls, but still have some ways to go.

The rattling in MyTown Maxx hall can only be heard on the D-box row and the 1 row (D) below it. As for the sub, I'm very aware of sub distortions. I did raise it with one of the technician yet, but of course they don't understand the issue. They actually don't even understand what a sub bottoming out sounds like, so yeah. mega_shok.gif

Tracking to be the biggest pre-sales in history, biggest opening of all time and what not, Avengers Endgame is the real deal for the box office. It simply is the movie event of the year! rclxm9.gif
So definitely have to watch in the best cinema hall in Malaysia. Now lets clear up all the fuss and muss. Avengers Infinity War and Endgame are the only movies in history till date to be shot 100% on IMAX cameras, making IMAX the 1st choice, no questions asked!
Check It Out!!

So which IMAX to choose?
Seeing that the Digital IMAX is the only way for Malaysians, my guess is that the newer IMAX branches might be the better choices to go to. Cleaner screen, newer equipment, better environment. I've got my tickets for Endgame @ TGV IMAX Central i-City in IMAX 3D thumbsup.gif Although the other IMAX will still be a good spot for it regardless. To those who wants exclusivity/premium feel, get the IMAX Indulge seats at Sunway Velocity.

IMAX 2D or IMAX 3D?
Last year I watched Infinity War in IMAX 3D @ TGV 1 Utama. I was impressed with IMAX as usual, but not for its 3D presentation, which depends on the movie actually. IMAX 2D would have been equally good, or better for me. Considering the fact that Endgame runs for more than 3 hours, I'm not sure if 3D will be the better option if you are prone to headaches and discomfort. Given the choice I would have preferred the 2D option for Endgame. Unfortunately, TGV has more 3D showtimes to capitalize on the hype laugh.gif Next time you guys wanna watch a 3D movie, keep track on this site as they suggest movies to be watched in 2D or 3D: https://www.cinemablend.com/3d/

Best non-IMAX option?
Go with BigScreen or Maxx Halls. How far wrong can you go? These halls are already equipped with Dolby ATMOS as well.

Premium halls?
As I have suggested, the Indulge seats in IMAX are your best bets, don't think twice. The rest of the premium halls (Gold Class, Premiere Class, LUXE) will come with a smaller screen and sound. Suitable for those who truly desire comfort and exclusivity over big halls with the masses. Choice is yours smile.gif

Don't care about which cinema hall or tickets sold out?
Well, the least you can do is get to the biggest hall of your nearby cinema that you know is reliable and consistent.

Good luck on scoring Endgame tixs on the opening Wednesday night thumbup.gif
