Need recommendation based on below's basic informations:

1. Preferred Brand : Lenovo / Dell / HP

2. Budget : RM1.6k - RM2k

3. Usage : Moderate Usage

a. Which brand easy to claim warranty (less hassle)
b. Low product defect rate.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14" / 15"

Thanks.

Dell would be the most effective when it comes to warranty support, provided you are covered.
I'm assuming your "moderate usage" does not include games nod.gif
14"
Dell Inspiron 14, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT620M@RM1599[2.1kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu Linux 11.10; W7HB@RM1799

15.6"
Dell Inspiron 15, i5-3210M + Intel HD4000@RM1709[2.4kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB

For both laptops, use the remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years nod.gif

Hi guys,i've been using 5 years of desktop and now my work will need me to go around places...meaning that i wont have much time to stay at home playing games as much as i wanted to sad.gif

So i decided to get a gaming laptop for myself and need some recommendation. I already got 1 in mind after lots of survey but still wish to get more info here hehe tongue.gif

1. Preferred Brand - Any brand that its worth the buck
2. Budget - Below RM 4k. (Prefer RM 3.6k -)
3. Usage - Heavy gamer, movies and multi-tasking
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - Must 15.6 with Full HD

Would prefer if the spec is abit future proof.

Thanks.

Guys,
I am pondering whether I could find any branded laptop like spec below:
1. Brand: Any
2. Screen size: Any
3. Screen resolution must be 1440x900, 1600x900 or 1920x1080

I prefer high resolutions due to I am a programmer.

Maxed- out Precisions would be nice:
15.6"
Dell Precison M4700, i5-3320M + Nvidia Quadro K1000M@RM6300, 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7P [Screen Upgrade: FHD, FHD IPS RGB] [CPU Upgrade: up to i7-3920XM] [GPU Upgrade: Quadro K2000M] [RAM up to 32GB]

17.3"
Dell Precision M6700, i7-3520M + AMD FirePro M6000 + (1600x900)@RM8100, 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7P, 3 Years ProSupport, [Screen Upgrade: FHD, IPS FHD, 3D FHD][CPU Upgrade: up to i7-3920XM][GPU Upgrade: Quadro K5000M] [RAM up to 32GB]

For both units, upgrade:
- the CPU to quad core i7 models at least for faster renderings and multitasking
- the HDD to SSD for insanely fast software loadtimes
- screen to FullHD
- RAM to at least 8GB (16GB is recommended if you have the budget)
- the warranty to 5 years if possible icon_rolleyes.gif

Prices in RRP, try to bargain until RM2199, it should be possible.
Otherwise, there is a 14" notebook with GT640m as well

Your budget can barely get a GT640m, do you think you'll be able to get a gt650m? brows.gif

And I thought you had a budget of RM2.5k and you wanted AMD APUs? Change of mind? brows.gif

Powerful 17.3" notebooks are mostly more than RM5k unfortunately sad.gif
Closest would be this one:
17.3"
Lenovo Ideapad G780, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M + (1600x900)@RM2699[3.0kg], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm)
You will be able to get much better specs if you opt for a 15.6" though, without losing too much viewing space with its FullHD screen brows.gif
15.6"
Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty, P950 headset

thanks~Btw, where can I get it? Online stores? or I can get it in local shop? I mean the Leveno Ideapad Y580.Nice specs, the screen's not really a problem.=D

Mobile workstation?
So you would prefer something lighter? No problem brows.gif

Can consider these two:
15.6"
Asus N56VZ-S4079V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920 x 1080) + BluRay@RM3599[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 1TB, W7HP, subwoofer and backpack

Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty; *W8 (white) version upcoming

Use the remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years (onsite for Lenovo), upgrade RAM to 8GB at least, and then upgrade the HDD to SSD and you will have an uber machine thumbup.gif

Hey guys, Need recommendations. I do not think there is a laptop that meets my requirements which is weird.

Screen size 14inch (resolution the lower the better.for me 1366x768 is max for a 14 incher given win7's shitty DPI scaling, furthermore I plan to do light gaming so lower res the better)
GPU : preferably 28nm tech. doesnt matter if amd or nvidia. At this point even rebranded 40nm crap will do.
Battery : at least 5hrs on moderate wifi surfing.
Budget : Doesnt matter anything below rm3.5k is fine
CPU : doest matter , the lower the tdp the better.
Must have MSata slot for mSSD.

bottomline : I need a versatile laptop with mSSD and a low end GPU -something better than hd4000 of course.

PS : It doesnt have to be from malaysia. Leave the sourcing to me

Best regards.

EDIT : I was hoping that the u2442 had a decent battery life. but that was a MAJOR letdown. Furthermore, I was considering the Acer M5 but given the inaccessibility of the Mssd and ram slot I will give that a miss . I have pudgy fingers and hate to work with electronics especially with mobile laptop cables.
