2. The problem is all the display set don't have spreadsheet installed, so I can't really tell. Is 1600x900 on a 17.3" display the same number of lines with 1920x1080 on a 15.6"?

go for higher resolution if u want a larger workspace

Hi, my sis is going to get a lappy and need some recommendations

1. Preferred Brand - Asus
2. Budget - Around 1.6k
3. Usage - casual (not a heavy gamer),
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14-15" +-

Would prefer if the spec is abit future proof.

Thanks.
*
maybe this with more color option + decent spec (freedos though),
A43Sd- VX426/427/428/429/430, i3-2350M + Nvidia GT610M@RM1599[2.4kg], FreeDOS, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), colors: black/blue/red/white/pink

or topup a bit more for portability,
[Ultrabook]S46CA-WX021R, i3-2317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM1799[2.1kg], W7HB, 2GB

in 15" only one fit your budget, also freedos but come with 3rd gen cpu, so maybe it falls within ur definition of future proof
A53SD-SX1263/2369/1270, i3-2370M + Nvidia GT610M@RM1599, 2GB, 500GB, FreeDOS; colors: black/blue/red

Guys,
I am pondering whether I could find any branded laptop like spec below:
1. Brand: Any
2. Screen size: Any
3. Screen resolution must be 1440x900, 1600x900 or 1920x1080

I prefer high resolutions due to I am a programmer.

Hai, i am new here.

Looking for a laptop mainly for gaming for the upcoming blockbusters games like COD:BO2, AC3, RE6 and my budget is around RM3000.

I've done a lot of survey, so far the only laptop that fits my budget will be Y580 right?

Or any other good suggestion?
*
there's a lot other, but i guess they offer a weaker card compared to gtx660m in y580

Yup, i see no other lappy can offer a gtx660m within budget of 3k.
So won't go wrong with y580 right?

If i increase budget to max 4k. What laptop would u advice? Thank you

well if u prefer asus, there's a model that can match the spec of y580

G55VW-S1095V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080)@3999, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W7HP

but given the price of y580 tad cheaper, it's all come down to you, maybe you can go check those model around and compare which suits u best

Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty; *W8 (white) version upcoming
Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3599[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(7200rpm), W7HP, backlit keyboard, 2 years international warranty
Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3999[JBL], 8GB, 32GB mSATA + 1TB HDD, W7HP, backlit keyboard, 2 years warranty

Erm, I can't find this for RM3000. Most sites I find is RM3800+, nearly RM4000. Anyone knows where I can get this at RM3000, cause my budget is really just that, and nothing more smile.gif

Thanks!

1. Any.
2. RM2k - RM3k
3. Videogames, mostly want to run DOTA2, and in the future FFXIV. Would like to dualboot Ubuntu.
4. Within 15" range.

I've been thinking of the Lenovo Ideapad y580 over here but I'm wondering if there are any AMD alternatives to the Nvidia GTX660M?

As I want to venture into the world of Linux, I'd want something where I could get drivers for. I've heard that Nvidia's Optimus doesn't work all that well with Linux at the moment (a bit skeptical about the Bumblebee project). However, Steam on Linux booming in next year may kickstart more driver compatibility development with mobile GPUs, so I might hinge onto that if I do decide on the y580.

Tl;dr, I'd like recommendations on a laptop with an AMD GPU to the equivalent of a GTX660M.
*
just a bit of input, I think bumblebee is in a good hand. can't comment much as my linux is only running on integrated graphic but I'll put my money on nvidia when it comes to nvidia, history told us so. tongue.gif

hello.. im thinking of getting lenovo G480, i3-3110M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS.
used it for work, assignments and of course gaming(dota 2, pes, fifa )
should i get i5 or i3 is enough? and is gt635 is much better than 630? lastly should i upgrade ram to 8gb or 4gb is enough? i always play dota and alt tab to check fb also.. biggrin.gif
*
what kind of work you are going to deal with? i'll say i3 is good enough, and gt635 is suffice to run those game on low/med setting. 4gb ram usually enough for average user for basic task

Hi, I want to ask about this NB,
A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 1TB, W8
[Ultrabook]K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD
In term of gaming, how is the ability?
*
gt640m will perform a bit better compared to a45vs, plus ultrabook isn't really mean for gaming
