Matthew preger has a lot of good info very advance.
Love the idea of using the reflectometer but it cost way too much money.

Another is Heather Perry, she has some good entry level video.

Matt Perger has a method which doesn't rely on high end meters.

It's actually on his youtube channel.

In my opinion, his tips are usually spot on and easy to understand. Doesn't echo the other things many people said before and is for one actually easy to duplicate IRL.

I would put Coffea Coffee together with chain store status. Beans are roasted and delivered from a faraway place and served 1mth old later to customers...
Sounds alot like Starbucks...  blink.gif
*
It's not really that "off". Just ask them for the dates.

Granted, the brews these "stores" have these days are not really worth paying for (considering how lazy they've become), Coffea is probably out of the many 2nd wave stores, the only one who still pours frothed milk properly.

laugh.gif One thing I realized when getting an espresso setup, is one can really appreciate why it is worth while paying 10 bucks for a cup and understand at the same time why it also isn't.

Yea, that machine cost about 1.6k usd.. in exchange about 2.4k SGD when that guy first purchased.

And yea the oscar is cheaper in Malaysia, but not really a good machine. Get the breville double boiler is better. biggrin.gif
*
The oscar is great provided u mod it wink.gif

It's basically a musica with some parts removed.

Once you get whatever's missing from musica's components you'd have a mini musica which performs the same.

P.S. shameless plugs, but whoever's too pussy to mod their oscar I can offer my services for a bag of coffee.

If you can get a HX and a grinder, train drinkers how to use. That will be the cheapest alternative. Less cost to maintance in a long run.

Horrible idea with the HX + grinder.

Two possible outcomes:
1. No one drinks coffee anymore. (most people may like coffee, but they don't like making them because it's a huge hassle)
2. The grinder/hx will die of a horrible death very soon.

I'd say get an expensive superautomatic and leave the maintenance to the service men.

There was this smartass person who thought they'd found a bargain, and bought an almost half-priced Aeropress from this very same webstore, and got what they paid for: a cheap knockoff. That person is ME!

Tell you what: before you part with your money, get them to put down in black and white that the unit is 100% genuine, and that they will give a full refund (including shipping charges) if you can prove it's not the real deal. Of course, proving might be a big hassle.

I'd say don't save the 80 bucks and go for a genuine one, say, from
myespresso or cuppa. No regrets.

P.S. Or you can pay me the 100 bucks, and I'll send the unit that I bought to you, free shipping!!
*
Myespresso as in kfchan's shop?

IMO, having experience both shops:

1. Myespresso - quite efficient in sales, but afterwards he doesn't 'support' you anymore. Pretty much ignored my email asking him about removing the two poles on the k3 for maintenance.
2. cuppa - Incompetence to the maximum. My oscar was bought from them. They said they wanted to "test" it first before sending it out to me. When I received it, the steam knob is totally broken. Turns out some jackass "overturned" it somehow. I had to even escalate to his 'boss' to get shit done. Pretty much will not support them anymore.

IMO, get your aeropress from whatever local store you can find and then pretend their services are good.

Like many here, I'm also on the Auresso subscription.

Brilliant stuff. It's worth the money.

Hi, my only dealing with myespresso is buying the Aeropress - no need support so didn't know about that!  Have had no dealings with cuppa, but they did confirm that their Aeropress is genuine when i enquired.

The important thing is there are tons of cheap fakes, many from that beloved world power C***a, and you don't know what sh*t you're drinking when you cook your coffee in them thar plastics. Hence the preference for the genuine stuff.

Regards
*
Just saying, some of these asshats (kfchan isn't exactly an asshat in this case, but cuppa definitely is) don't deserve our support. It's a niche enough business as it is. If they want to act like assholes, we should be rather paying more by supporting other shops.

That being said, the aeropress is sold in many places, available locally. You can always pay them a visit and decide if it's worth it.

I got my unit previously from Coffee Ritual. (it's out of stock now, so don't bother lol)

I have sinned...

Started a bag of supermarket coffee...expiry Jan 17...I'm estimating 10 months stale...

I couldn't help myself, the bright orange packaging was too enticing laugh.gif It called for me... I just have to buy it. RM33 per 500g bag.

No crema as expected...but surprisingly flavorful nutty and rich coco, good for latte. Will continue to fine tune tomorrow. Most likely to sample the rest of their range biggrin.gif

Good value for money stuff these for latte. Hahaha

I have failed so far to identify one...

I am working in one cafe as a barista but the equipment provided are not enough for me to pull a great shot that satisfy me...

is there any cafe utilizing a slayer machine around Malaysia?

I would like to try a shot pulled by a slayer ala slayer style  lust.gif

Where do you guys usually get your beans from? My consumption is around 3kg a month and most suppliers don't deliver because of the small quantity, but those at the supermarkets are not good at all sad.gif

is this consider a good crema or it is too thin?[attachmentid=5455018]

Crema is not a good indication of quality. It could be, but relying on it is misguided effort at best.

Weigh your shots, time them and taste them. This should ultimately be the benchmark.
