Guys, what's the proper way to brew coffee? Should you use water that just boiled or need to bring to cooler temp water? And when you pour, do you pour all the water at one go onto the coffee powder or do you pour incrementally and stir? Is stirring while pouring water necessary or wait until all water poured and then stir?
And can you leave the coffee powder inside the mug? Will it deteriorate the coffee quality? I'm talking about using just a large mug and coffee powder scenario. I have one of those cloth filter thing, but find it troublesome to wash so just use manual way. I just pour slowly into a cup, and leave the powder at the bottom.
One slightly side observation I have found is that if the coffee is really strong in caffeine, I can feel some sort of thing going through my nose when I'm sipping the coffee. It's like sniffing something that makes you high, that's how I think I'd describe it. If I fail to get that sense in my nose, I know the coffee isn't going to give me any oomp. Anyone experience such?

Hi
I am quite new to coffee / tea drinking, apart from casual drinking at coffee bean, starbucks, etc.
I plan to invest in a coffee maker (it will be ideal if it can also brew tea as well). My budget is say around rm500-800.
I would prefer machine that uses normal coffee powder rather than the need to get a specific range of capsules.
Could someone recommend me a user friendly machine for newcomer like me and where I can buy it. Thank you.

Harvey norman has it.

QUOTE(elgato @ Jan 2 2014, 10:36 PM) That the problem with hand grinder. Grind not even and setting not precise. Time to get electric grinder I guess. Too fast to change a electric grinder..just get this hand grinder not long ago...=x and it's a Akira Hand grinder...but yes the consistency is not as good as Electric grinder...maybe consider Akira Feima grinder XD

QUOTE(frontierzone @ Jan 4 2014, 02:37 PM) just normal coffee powder from grocery store. I think just leave your hot boiling water to cool for awhile. Max temp will ruined the taste of the coffee.

Just looked at the Philips website, do you know the difference between the RM799 model and RM899 model? This post has been edited by sonycamera: Jan 4 2014, 09:56 PM

I have a hunch that's true too, never got it confirmed by anyone. Just that when I add a cup or half of cold water into boiling water, seems to be better taste. If hot boiling out of the stove, the coffee is rather bitter and lacks the kind of oomph like I mentioned that goes up the nose. But sometimes I'm rather lazy to add cold water, because I'm scared of over-cooling the temperature too. This post has been edited by frontierzone: Jan 4 2014, 10:09 PM

The RM 899 model uses Aluminum steam wand while the RM 799 model uses plastic steam wand. and RM 899 part of it's body is made of aluminum while RM 799 model is plastic.
