Haven't venture into Syphon though I heard a lot of it. Would love to try it soon. Currently in love with Proud Mary House blend.

Syphon is easy to use but hard to master. Learned it from a Taiwanese that opened a coffee shop in Penang thumbup.gif

I believe Vietnam coffee are using drip style. Didn't get any Vietnam fresh bean on hand yet. Would love to try some too.

i might be wrong but it's extremely hard to get fresh beans unless you go to the manufacturing plant directly or you have some private roasters willing to sell you some

Fresh bean for me in terms of less than 2 weeks from roadting date. It doesn't need to be green bean but there is a lot places such as Depatuee Lounge selling freshly roasted bean. Myespresso too sells Highlander Supremo Blend which I considered it to be fresh.

Yup I'm in KL. Seems like you are coffee seller yah. In this case did u sell Vietnam coffee bean and not those grinded coffee? If yes, how bout the roast date? A good freshly roasted bean that I could accept will be plus minus 2 weeks.

If you in PJ, go over to ritual coffee and see how they brew with syphon.

Yup, u can get Hario Skerton grinder at coffee ritual or myespresso. A lil investment but bring a good freshly grinded bean. For vacumn pack there is two type. One is without pump and another is with pump. Both I believed works quite the same which they suck the air out. Cost bout rm150 if not mistaken. For me I just grind and store in the Skerton. Recommended you to grind per use as u need to preserved the freshness.

I've visited them several times and I love their Sumatra single origin coffee which they brew using the syphon. They are actually located at the Mezzanine floor, directly above Sri Penang Restaurant in Damansara Utama. If you wish to visit them during weekdays just park in the multi level parking at Uptown 7. They are right opposite Uptown 7. The parking rate is not expensive, Rm1.00 for 3 hours. They sell coffee makers/brewers mostly Hario's products and also other coffee products. I've spoken once to the owner himself who is knowledgeable on coffee and friendly. Food there is good as well. You can visit their website @ www.coffeeritual.com.

Visited Joo Fa Coffee Trading at Tg. Sepat yesterday. They are using tradisional charcoal roasting and using local Robusta bean. I bought 300g of one week roasted 'white' bean. White coffee bean here means without added sugar or planta. I wonder it will taste when use it for French Press or Aeropress. I wonder if this type of bean are suitable to mix with froth milk for latte? Have not try it out yet. Somehow i seldom here ppl using local robusta bean for more 'westernised' coffee like latte, capp etc.

I personally own the Hario Coffee Syphon where someone bought for me from Taiwan...
Wonder where can i get the alcohol for heating? Or is there any replacement of that material instead of using alcohol? Where to find these alcohol or liquid?

The alcohol which you are looking for is called methylated spirit. It is commonly use for camping burners. It is odourless and will not create any smoke or carbon while burning. You can get it in most of the hardware shops i.e ACE Hardware chain shop. Methylated spirit comes in a small glass bottle packing or a larger packing which is 3 or 4 liters. For your case a small bottle is sufficient. I have been using it for my syphon before, but I have just bought a gas burner from Coffee Ritual at Damansara Utama (www.coffeeritual.com). They sell coffee makers and accessories for home and commercial. The gas burner is convenient to use and you can also adjust/control the flame. Enjoy your coffee brewing! smile.gif
